- lyndsey4 contributionsI attended the Renaissance Tour last Sunday. I know nothing about Renaissance paintings but the guide who was extremely knowledgeable catered for those in the group who knew more as well as those who didn't. Fabulous tour I recommend Simon Birtall who was brilliant a real gem of an afternoon and great value at £6.00Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 September 2024
- Anthony DSouthport, United Kingdom18 contributionsI led a group of visitors from Meols (Southport) u3a to get some insight into what the Walker is all about. We were guided by Steph and Emma who were brilliant. They were very knowledgable and entertaining. They led us through the history of the gallery and gave an informative account of a number of paintings, and their artists. We were already familiar with some of the paintings but were given fresh insights. We will certainly be returning for their upcoming exhibitions.Visited March 2025Travelled on businessWritten 21 March 2025
- skyfluff1191 contributionsVisited the gallery with a friend, and had a lovely time. It felt like there were endless rooms, each carefully themed and curated. There was stuff on the Baroque, the Renaissance, modern art, interactive art, and much more, we spent hours in there and honestly could’ve spent longer if the gallery wasn’t about to close. The Holbein portrait of Henry VIII was a particular highlight. The staff were friendly and knowledgable, and the best part is that the whole thing was free!Visited October 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 31 October 2024

- Amber665Birmingham, United Kingdom264 contributionsWe came here to have a look at the exhibition, not really sure what was there and were very pleasantly surprised. There were some interesting artworks and sculptures relating to Liverpool's involvement in the slave trade. They showed parts that weren't that obvious or focussed on the parts that don't generate much publicity. We were shown a modern pottery display that referenced a picture that was painted at the time. The differences showed the mismatch between then and now. We would have stayed longer in the cafe, but it was so cold being on the ground floor close to the main front door. The hot chocolate and cookies were very nice though!Visited February 2025Travelled with friendsWritten 3 March 2025
- Paul HSurrey, United Kingdom99 contributionsI was very impressed by the civic centre of Liverpool and in particular I loved the Walker Art Gallery. - Peej MOxford, United Kingdom299 contributionsThe Walker Gallery is one of the highlights of any visit to Liverpool if you love great art and love seeing amazing sculptures and paintings lovingly curated. Inside this amazing building you'll find a selection of galleries covering different eras and cultures, including some fantastic modern art. We particularly loved all the classic romantic era paintings that are part of the collection but also loved all the statues and sculpture work. Even though some galleries were closed when we visited, we still saw lots to inspire and enthral us. The gallery has a small cafe with a few lunch options and good coffee with a modest gift shop but we really enjoyed our time here.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 April 2024
- Grace N10 contributionsSuch a friendly atmosphere! I went during the week by myself and had an amazing time. I am a big fan of Impressionism and I was shocked at how many great paintings they had. I have never been so close to a Monet painting and it was breath-taking to see the brushstrokes and even his signature, usually I see Monet's work in London and your lucky if you can catch a photo through the crowds. I would like to add there was a guy playing some kind of instrument in one of the rooms and it was magical, it really felt like you understood the paintings just a touch more!Visited December 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 December 2024
- PWNottinghamNottingham, United Kingdom149 contributionsWe thoroughly enjoyed our day spent here. The collection of western art and sculpture is marvellous, spanning many centuries. I found it a pleasure to see such wonderful art. The gallery is housed in a Victorian neoclassical building which is very grand and has quite an uplifting feel. There is a pleasant restaurant where service was excellent and we had a delicious stew which I think was called scouse! The shop was good, the staff were friendly and helpful, and it included guide books and postcards. For anyone with an interest in art this is a place not to be missed. It rivals the quality of art in London galleries. Absolutely brilliant.Visited December 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 December 2024
- Qualitycounts64108 contributionsLovely building with a mix of exhibits including paintings across a range of periods and sculpture and pottery. I focussed on the paintings and went to see the special exhibition of Velaquez's Rokeby Venus which is on loan from the National Gallery. I was impressed with the spectrum of paintings though some were not as visible as they could have been because of teh lighting/reflections. Remember though that we are lucky to be able to access publicly owned galleries like this for free. They did Velaquez proud - recommendedVisited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 30 July 2024
