A fun way to learn about Viking York
This is a very touristy experience but still a heck of a lot of fun and an easy way to get an introduction to Viking York. You ride through the exhibit in a little gondola (I'm 6 feet tall and it was tight) as you view many different scenes of old York. The gondola lets you out in a small museum and finally the always required gift shop. It's not great but it is fun and informative.
Thank you very much for your feedback, we appreciate your comments! Remember that your tickets are valid for a year so why not come back for another visit? We hope to see you again at JORVIK Viking Centre very soon!

    A must see attraction
Was told this was a great attraction and it truly was. From chatacters in theme while queuing to the very end, their enthusiasm and knowledge was amazing. The ride/tour was fabulous, even down to the aroma’s infused to complement the experience. Well worth a visit and if you have Clubcard points, even better

Inclusive and accessible for SEN families
We wanted to visit with our two young children (5 & 3) but did not think we'd need to prebook with it just being a random weekday. My eldest being on the spectrum was agitated at the large queue and tickets to prebook had sold out till much later in the day. The staff were so helpful and accommodating, allowing us to bypass the queue and showing my two children some photographs of the ride and animatronics so that they knew what to expect and weren't scared. Lanterns and booster seats are available so that even small children can clearly see. The place itself is very intriguing, sights, smells and sounds really show you an insight into Jorvik. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, which was made infinitely better by the staff. Highly recommend a visit.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We really appreciate your comments, our team will be glad to hear your feedback. We pride ourselves on our Accessibility and we are very happy to hear of your satisfaction. We look forward to seeing you again soon at JORVIK!

Informative but on the expensive side!
We arrived 30 mins before our time and we’re happy to wait. We had a pre-booked time and moved aside if anyone with an earlier time came along, but we got the feeling the staff did not like us arriving earlier than timed. I think 3 people said it would be better to go away and then return? Another lady told us to get to the back of the other queue, which is for people with no tickets but are hoping for spare places ! So what is the point of booking up front? It makes no sense. The exhibit itself was very carefully presented and explained and the ‘time capsule’ ride which whisked you back to a Viking village in York was brilliant. You can really picture the sights and smells of this time. See the clothes and occupations of the time and faces of the inhabitants. Then it’s a big display of finds and explanations. I think the entry fee is a little steep and the hype of this attraction overdoes the reality of it, imo ?

    Second visit.
Second visit to Jorvik Viking centre and it was great. Except that it was very quick and not much to see still very fun and exiting as always. I strongly reccomend Jorvik and I'll make sure to come again in the future.

    An authentic Viking experience.
I finally made it. I have read Bernard Cornwell's wonder historic reconstruction of life in the Viking era and so was really looking forward to my visit. I was not disappointed. What I was not expecting was a wonderfull orchestrated ride through a Viking village. It was brilliant. Afterwards there are lots of relics to view and a Viking with a hammer minting Viking coins. Be careful not to get disorientated by the see through glass floor over historic diggings (real or reconstructed?). Well worth the ticket price.

Bringing all aspects of Vikings to life. A full immersive experience.
Well organised with a pre booked ticket. Lots of staff in hand in periods costume to explain, expand on items and fascinate visitors with facts. There were also story tellers. I didn’t give it five stars because the sound system on the ride into the past was irritating. There are three seats in each row of the ride and you can choose your commentary language. My granddaughter and I both chose English. We could hear each other’s but they were out of synch with the result we couldn’t actually listen to either. There was no way of turning one of them off so we just tried to ignore them. There was subtitles but it’s not easy to read and look.

    Interesting little place
Very interesting and informative: it does what it does well. Would love it if it was a bit bigger- was in and out in under an hour. Very organised queue system outside. I turned up early and was politely requested to return at the time on my ticket: no problem with that.

    Interesting Viking experience
We went in not knowing what to expect. There was a bit of a queue waiting outside but that was fine. The gift aid ticket lasts for a whole year which is really good. We entered the centre and we were showed some old ruins of a Viking house which was really interesting, the staff were full of knowledge and made the whole experience come to life. There was an even smaller queue to get on the main event. It was really cool and we learnt a lot from the experience. It engaged our 11 year old really well and would entertain younger ages as well. There was then a museum showing off old artefacts and some skeletons. It was really fun and I would definitely recommend!!

Disneyland for historians. (This is a good thing.)
If you've never been to Jorvik, it's Disneyland for historians. First you queue (and how). Then you get ushered inside and down a staircase marked with the street level of each era, going back through Victorian, Tudor, Medieval York until we reach the Vikings. Then you queue again, this time on a glass floor showing you a reproduction of the archeological remains of Viking York found on that site. And staff all wear Viking clothing (accurate, no horned helmets). Then you get into an open cable car and whisked around a haunted house style lifesize model of Coppergate in Viking times, populated by ever so slightly creepy animatronic models. The commentary (in at least a dozen language options, spoken and written) tells you what you're looking at and the historical basis for the decisions they made. It was notorious for recreating the smell of Viking York - I think they've toned this down a bit but it's still there. After the ride around the model, there's a traditional museum section. Some really interesting things (including human remains which may be under discussion) but the ride is definitely the focus. In case you can't tell, we loved it. It is expensive for the time it takes (you're in and out inside an hour unless you want to read every single object label twice) but it's absolutely worth it at least once.
