Mr Wickham gave a stern and memorable lecture
My Ukrainian guests and I enjoyed this fun, interactive experience of Jane's imagined life in Bath. Late afternoon's the best time to visit to try on the dressing-up clothes. Less crowded. Loads of detail about Bath but it's not a 'literary' museum for experts of JA's novels ... although the books are on sale in the shop.

Loved this tribute to the great author
Housed in a beautiful Georgian house dating back to between 1735 and 1760 this is definitely the place to visit if, like me, you were enthralled by Jane's novels when you were a teenager or watched the period dramas and films produced from her works. The centre focuses upon the five years that Jane spent living and socialising in Bath, where she resided, the places she visited, as well as the locations which feature in her novels inspiring her lively wit and sharp satire. The tour begins with an aptly dressed host explaining the Austen family tree within which Jane sits with some worthwhile background information on the key members. You are then released into the exhibition itself which includes a short film highlighting the places that Jane lived within Bath. The Souvenir Guide includes the map should you wish to explore these further after your visit. There are some interesting exhibits including an explanation of monetary income during Jane's era, a feature that arises many times in her books when various mothers are looking for appropriate suitors for their daughters. Another highlights the custom of drinking tea and you can book, in advance, to take Afternoon tea in the Regency Tea Room after your visit if you so wish. I'm not a massive supporter of gift shops when visiting exhibitions, museums etc but I couldn't not take a wander into this one, choosing to purchase a special copy of "Pride and Prejudice' as a birthday present to myself.

    Oh Mr Darcy!
Really enjoyed this museum. I learned a lot about Jane Austen and her family. Even if you don't know the books it's still worth a visit. The Regency tea room was nice with really lovely staff in costume, but I must confess I have had better afternoon teas. It wasn't terrible but it definitely could afford to either be slightly cheaper or have nicer bread and scones. Just my thoughts but I won't condemn it as it was still a nice experience to be waited on in the very home of Jane Austen and family. I visited on a quiet day so I got to experience everything without people in the way when reading boards and taking photos. 'Characters' on site were informative and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice small museum for Jane aAustin fans
Nice small museum with lot of small details, good for true Jane Austin fans. I spend a good hour there, including 15 welcome speech and 15 video. Hou a nice booklet, which helps you to explore Bath in the footsteps of Austin a bit more. The souvenier shop has many unique items.

    Must Do for Austen Fans!
We had an amazing time at The Jane Austen Centre. It was the reason why we came to Bath, and we were not disappointed. Wickham gave us our tour, and he was fantastic. Then, we got to walk through the interactive portion, which included a wonderful film on Austen's time in Bath, a game guessing what Regency household items were used for, and a dress up photo time. Wentworth was incredibly helpful during all of this, even pointing out details we missed and assembling outfits for us. Afterwards, we had tea upstairs, and it was absolutely delicious. All in all, we spent about 3 hours here, and we highly recommend it to any Austen fan. We really appreciate everyone we interacted with, because they all made the experience so special.

A glimpse into Jane Austin's life
I was pleasantly surprised at this museum and would highly recommend this if you have ever read one of Jane Austin's books, or seen any of the movies. The actors who are your guides are excellent and know a lot about Bath as well as Jane Austin. It is interactive and easy to spend at least an hour or more learning about Jane Austin and the historical city of Bath.

    A delightful experience!
From the greeting at the front porch and on we had a delightful experience at the Jane Austen Museum. The staff is dressed in period clothing and all were very polite. My husband ran late behind me to our tour and they kindly let him join when the time permitted. It would be good to read or listen (free on Audible) to a Jane novel before going so you understand some of the fun references the staff makes.

    Pleasant small exhibition
A pleasant couple of hours in this small exhibition which gave an explanation of Jane's life, family and novels. Very interesting talk to begin followed with with an exhibition of her events in her life. there was a 15 minute film about her also but this seemed a little unnecessary really bearing in mind the previous talk. An exhibition of one or two articles of the time and some clothes of the period you get put on if you wished. Very pleasant tea room on the top floor. Not a massive amount to see or do after the initial talk but not sure what else that could be added.

A brief fun look into the past!
This is my second time at the center. This time we had Caroline Bingley presenting Jane Austens life and portraits. She was so fun and amazing! The museum is small but has so many incredible items and history. A must for Austen fans!
