- Laura GSurrey, United Kingdom62 contributionsVery busy but worth experiencingMy visit to the Bath Roman Baths was undeniably interesting, offering a fascinating glimpse into ancient history. Spending a few hours exploring the site was both educational and immersive. However, the experience was somewhat marred by the bustling atmosphere, mainly due to the presence of school trips in the middle of the week. Despite the crowds, the historical significance of the Baths shone through, making it a worthwhile visit for history enthusiasts, even amidst the busyness.Thank you for your review. It's great to hear that you enjoyed your visit. The Roman Baths is one of the country’s most popular historic attractions and at times this does mean it can get busy. We have recently introduced timed ticketing with a limited number of tickets available in each slot. This has helped to ease the flow of people through the museum and around the bath complex. The middle of the day is usually the most popular time to visit, so for a quieter experience we recommend booking tickets for just after opening time (currently 9am), or later in the day after 3pm. Throughout the summer holidays we also stay open until 10pm, and thoroughly recommend an evening visit. We do hope you will be able to come again another time when we are not so busy.Written 10 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023
- ZPsi29 contributionsVery interesting place, and the self-guided audio tour is very well done.We spent close to three hours at the Roman Baths. The site is now fully ready for prime time tourism, MUCH updated from when I was there in 1985. The audio tour, with matching numbers, had lots of info. I found the Bill Bryson additional comments to be very entertaining, besides informative. Only minus is that it's pretty crowded and gets very hot. If you're worried about COVID, not the place for you.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 October 2023
- EWL930Woodbridge, Virginia38 contributionsFascinating Glimpse of HistoryAn outstanding piece of Ancient Rome in the heart of Bath- well worth visiting. Spent far longer than expected (nearly 2 hours) due to the very well done audio guide that provided fascinating commentary on all aspects of the very large and extensive bath and temple complex. Not to be missed!Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 October 2023
- Janet S5 contributionsFascinating visitYou cannot go to Bath without visiting the Roman Baths. We booked a slot and went in early as its wasn’t too busy. The staff were very helpful and the audio guide was excellent and very clear. The Baths were fascinating and with the excellent audio guide it made an amazing visit learning a lot about the area, but you must give yourself time to appreciate the Roman Baths and the history.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 October 2023
- Sarah ALondon, United Kingdom6 contributionsA great place to visit.Exploring and learning the history behind the Roman Baths was deeply interesting. The audio guide is free and is gives a lot more information to listen to as different areas are explored. It was nice to soak all of this in and go at our own pace. You can also get some really beautiful photos if you go at a less busy time. A definite recommendation if visiting Bath for the first time.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 October 2023
- Natalie2 contributionsLoved it!Everyone was very friendly at the Roman Baths today. The entrance was quick and easy, the staff provided lots of help and support when needed. I liked that the audio guides could be used by children, this commentary was engaging and fun and my 9 year old enjoyed listening to several of the numbers. The demonstrator, dressed up a a Roman slave was brilliant and knew lots about Roman life. I loved the holograms throughout the museum, the presentation and lighting of the artefacts seemed to bring history to life! The shop had a good selection of items, good fun to look around. Overall excellent and well worth a visit!Hi Natalie, thank you for leaving us such a great review! We're really pleased you loved interacting with our costumed characters and that you felt the holograms brought the history to life! We hope to welcome you back again in the future.Written 27 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 October 2023
- Dylan SmithersTexas Gulf Coast, Texas4 contributions10/10Didnt expect it to go underground and be that expansive! Well thought out although it can get quite busy which makes it harder to move around and see everything at the start, but once you start going through it filters out. Worth the money and a great day outVisited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 October 2023
- 573dk9999Iowa City, Iowa637 contributionsExcellent Roman ruinsA Roman bath built on top of Britain's only hot spring has been a tourist destination for millennia. In late October the crowds have dissipated so a place like this is easier to enjoy. After buying the ticket and entering, you collect a handheld audio device that provides guided narration. You plug in the number of the display you are standing in front of and hit the play button. Take your own 9mm headset, it is almost impossible to hear the audio on the internal speaker. Entry is through a series of exhibits of artifacts that have been found and set up in nice displays that try to put context into them. you finally find your way to the main event, the large pool fed by the hot spring. You get to walk on a 2000-year-old floor. It's not impossible that Emperor Constantine walked on these floors. While you exit, you walk past a very good example of a Roman hypocaust, the original radiant heating system. Well worth the time.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023
- D BNova Scotia, Canada268 contributionsInteresting HistoryA great visit. A lot of history. The audio is worth listening to as you go through the exhibits. Expect to spend a couple of hours if you want to see everything. The bath water still flows in one area and the heat off the water is amazing. An amazing architectural experience.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 31 October 2023
- Carolyn F28 contributionsLived up to my childhood memoriesI visited the Roman Baths for the first time age 7 in 1987 (picture included) and had great memories. I enjoyed classical studies at school so was pleased when my 14 year old son expressed an interest in a).going to Bath and b) specifically visiting the Roman Baths so here we came. The weather was on our side, the guides were excellent and there was so much to see. The last time I took the family to a place i had enjoyed as a child was a disapbut this was not. This was really enjoyable for all of us. Thank you. Photos from 1987 and 2023!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 November 2023
