Hotels near Holy Trinity Church
Located on the banks of River Avon, this is considered one of England's most-visited Parish Churches and the site where William Shakespeare was baptized in 1564 and buried in 1616. In addition to Shakespeare's grave the 800 year-old church has some notable stained glass windows and 26 carved misericords dating from the 1400s. The high altar is one of the very few pre-reformation stone altars still in use in England today. Also of note is the sanctuary knocker on the inner porch door dating from the 1200s - anyone touching this could claim sanctuary within for 37 days. We welcome visitors daily, entry to church is free. There is a charge to see the grave of Shakespeare of £5 per person and £1 per child under 16 (free to preschool children) As a working church the times may have to change for services or other events. Before visiting please go to our website https://www.stratford-upon-avon.org/ for each days opening times.

- Nelson FBrasilia, DF137 contributionsAmazing!Spetacular! Begin your walk by the Avon river from the floured park to the South. At the end you will find the Cathedral Building. Construction started in the 13th century. Shakespeare grave and the main altar is paid. Friendly reception. Awesome architecture.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2024
- SalEYork, United Kingdom8 contributionsBrilliant, informative & well worth the nominal upkeep feeSo so pleased that I returned here, after finding it closed (for church business) the previous day. Well worth paying the nominal upkeep fee (£5) to view all that this church has to offer and hear the wonderful informative guides - 3 ladies and younger man. All passionate. Thank you Joyce, appreciated your supportive kind words. This became not only about Shakespeare, but also the whole fascinating history of this beautiful church. Lots of questions answered and more besides. The grounds, nearby park and river walk were stunning too. Loved taking the time out.Visited October 2024Travelled soloWritten 2 October 2024
- Ali B42 contributionsCashing inBeautiful Church, just a slight sour taste at having to pay £5 per person to see a grave? Feels like much of Stratford Upon Avon has cashed in on poor old William Shakespeare! Such a shame, it gives the area a Disneyland feel. Wouldn't come back, the Town doesn't have a good vibe.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 October 2024
- K VBruton, United Kingdom325 contributionsStunning church AND Shakespeare lies at rest in this placeBeautiful Stratford-upon-Avon is home to the Royal Shakespeare Company and all things William including his final resting place . The Holy Trinity Church is a truly beautiful church with wonderful history and so much of interest to discover and seek out. The highlight though is inevitably the tomb of William Shakespeare and his family. Aside from some issues around parking the car and being uncomfortable about the charging of people to see the tomb and indeed the main part of the church it remains very much worth a visit if you are in Stratford and interested in Shakespeare.Visited October 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 26 October 2024

- Shakespeare's New Place HotelsShakespeare's New Place is now closed for the winter and will reopen in March 2025. Walk in Shakespeare’s footsteps and be inspired at the site that was his grand family home where he lived from 1597 – 1616. One of the largest houses in the borough of Stratford-upon-Avon, it was the only family home he ever bought and is the presumed location of where he wrote his will, and indeed some of the later plays including The Tempest. Sadly the house was demolished in 1759 but it remains a historic site. Today, New Place has a new landscape of beautifully restored gardens and breathtaking sculptures inspired by Shakespeare’s family life and his works. In ‘The House Next Door’, an exhibition brings to life the story of Shakespeare’s New Place and its most famous occupant and his family – casting new light on Shakespeare as a father, husband, and writer.Read more
