    Nice meerkats
For £8 per adult, it isn’t great value for money, but someone’s got to pay to feed and house all the creatures ! It’s nice to see endangered animals here, they seem to have a good life. Not many butterflies but lots of other things. It’s not a massive place, other reviewers seem to be expecting lions and giraffes in Leeds … but it’s a fun day out with some nice gardens to have a look at and a nice pub next door. Meerkats, turtles and small monkeys very cute.

Great place to visit, avoid cafe during school holidays
Returned here after a few years and it has expanded to cater for more visitors including bigger gift shop and cafe. Lovely outdoor facilities as well for warmer weather and the animals are great. We were very disappointed with cafe management, however. It seemed the staff covering school half term are no more than kids themselves with little motivation nor speed in a busy cafe. More experienced staff are definitely required to deal with queues and manage time waiting and expectations. We were waiting for at least 45 mins for some paninis, but staff only once came out to advise there would be a 1 hr waiting time for food, once we had been sitting waiting for over half that time! Children cannot sit still for too long and the management should be aware of this and be more organised in advance, or have staff better equipped to serve.

Excellent and completely changed for the better
Wow just wow. We’ve been going of 11 years and over the last few years it had gone really down hill. And was dirty, everything looked tired annd unkept and smelt aweful. Kids wanted to go again today and omg what a change! Loads of new animals the whole place looked amazing! It was like a completely different place Yes prices have gone up but you can see why it was 100% worth the price paid. We had a great time there. And I’d recommend it to anyone. So nice to see the place back to its former glory and whoever is responsible for this should be very proud of the vast changes. Here’s to many more trips to tropical world

If you want to see Butterflies Don’t bother.
I’ve been to tropical world a few times and the more I come the more rundown it gets. I’m all for price increases so didn’t think the £8.40 adult entry fee was too bad and also I understand that renovations can take time and often need to be done while places are still open but about 30% of the enclosures were empty, many run down. Lots of dead and dying plants and about 5 butteries in the whole start section which was hugely disappointing. So don’t go with the expectation of them flying around in all colours like they used to be. The fish we’re great and the mammals of course a big hit but I just feel like there could have been some communication before hand about how much works been done and how little you’ll be viewing or maybe an “out of season” price reduction perhaps. We didn’t come far to visit but those who do may be even more disappointed.

    Love this place
Don’t let the bad reviews put you off. We went today and we absolutely loved it. My little boy loved seeing all the animals and reading the information about them. It was clean, tidy and the up keep was brilliant. Staff were very welcoming which is always a bonus.

    Where have the butterflies gone?
Its ok. The fish are really interesting and the crocodile is interesting to watch. I wish I'd read the reviews first as we went exclusively to see the butterflies and we saw three. I'm sure there were loads when we went a few years ago.., It does look a bit tired and dated and it is a bit pricey for a trip that lasts about half an hour.

A good way to spend a couple of hours on a rainy day
We picked the Tropical World for a very wet morning while in Leeds. It has a good collection of animals in a series of themed lands., e.g desert, butterfly, underwater, etc. It also has a small gift shop and cafe.

    Disappointing
We took our two grandchildren to Tropical World a couple of years ago and we were underwhelmed by the animals on show. We tried again yesterday as we saw the place has had a revamp. Once again we were disappointed by the amount of animals on show, most of the animals in glass tanks were nowhere to be seen. The meerkat enclosure had 1 meerkat laid down. The bats have gone and only a few butterflies flying about. Will not be returning as the Tropical World in Sheffield is much better value.
