    Past and present
Access is free to visit, no pre-registration required. We found the location of museum collections difficult and difficult to navigate without a map. Ulster Museum is home to Northern Ireland's treasures past and present. Home to rich collections of art, history and natural science, set in the beautiful surroundings of the Belfast Botanic Gardens. Discover new perspectives on Ancient Ireland, global history, the Troubles, and everything the future holds. Ulster Museum's collections tell the story of our shared experiences, connecting together who we are, the past we share and the future we build together.

    Good afternoon visit
We enjoyed visiting this museum and although we didn’t explore everything it covered The Troubles which was something we wanted to learn more about. A balanced exhibition covering key events. Other things we visited was the 1920s fashion (only a small room on the top floor). More impressive was the exhibition on La Girona which was a boat from the Spanish Armada that sunk off of Giants Causeway. It was interesting reading about this and also seeing a coin depicting Mary I and Philip II of Spain. The museum is free to enter and also has a cafe on the ground floor. We had a snack and tea. It has easy bus links to the centre of Belfast and we’d recommend especially if you have a rainy afternoon!

    Great free museum!
A brilliant museum which is even better - free! A great selection of artifacts and informative signs. As a non-irish person, the section on The Troubles was particularly informative and helped us to understand the situation. Seemed great for children too with an interactive room about wildlife.

    Great Visit
The museum is in the botanical gardens and has a wide variety of attractions to keep you occupied for hours. It starts at the history of Ireland; stories about the troubles; geology; formation of the earth and prehistoric animals. It has an art gallery area as well. Spent 5 hours wondering around; no entry fee. Well worth it.

Not only is it wonderful, but it’s free
I can’t speak to all of the exhibits. As a lover of modern Irish history, I mostly stuck to the exhibition on the Troubles. But, even if that’s all you’re interested in going here for, it’s a great (and free!) place to stop. It’s also near Queens University and the Botanic Gardens, so it’s worth spending a few hours in the area.

Went to the Bill Rolston exhibition and met Bill Rolston 🤗
Decided to visit the mural exhibition in the museum by Bill Rolston. Have not visited the place in decades and I was pleasantly surprised by the kerb appeal. On entry I came across Pat who is an employee and who was the most helpful, informative and friendly person, thank you Pat. He guided us the exhibition, made sure we knew we could take photographs and checked on us on the way back out that all went well. The exhibition is well worth a visit and displays decades of work by Bill depicting murals from both sides of the community and expressing the passage of time in each place. There are also several books published on the matter and I will be enduring I get reading these too. I highly recommend visiting the exhibition and see the rich nature of our culture for yourself. To top it all off as we left the exhibition to go look at other things in the museum we bumped into Bill Rolston. I remembered him from my days in university when he taught me a lot about sociology, that was a very pleasant surprise. Pat proved to be further valuable as he directed us to the dinosaurs in his usual chirpy manner. Thanks to both Bill and Pat for make a good experience great 👍.

    A Must See
What a treasure! Fantastic museum covering so many different subjects. I was absolutely fascinated with the three dragons suspended from the ceiling; the artistry is amazing. Easy to navigate with lovely staff and a great location by the botanic gardens. Had a nice lunch on site before exploring the rest of the Queen's Quarter. Don't miss the Ulster Museum if you like eclectic collections - especially the "teasel" pottery - totally blown away by it.

    Caravaggio Exhibition
Being local to Belfast I have been to the museum often, so todays visit was purposely to see the exhibition, which was excellent. It’s free to enter and no need to book. Also big thanks to Pat, who recommended we see the Murals exhibition as we were leaving!
