- Topsyturvey9 contributionsAmazing, loved it !Absolutely amazing. Really enjoyed our visit so fascinating to see where the Royals travelled the world, and the handset explains each area as you start on the top deck and finish at the bottom, no rushing view at your leisure and take photos. There is a tea room on top deck and a lift to each section if needed. Really enjoyed. The Tram stops right outside the entrance you go through to get to it ( 2nd floor of shopping centre)We loved to read your detailed review of visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia, highlighting the fascinating complimentary audio guided tour, the must-visit Royal Deck Tearoom and how highly accessible the ship is to visitors, with lifts and ramps to every deck. You kindly mention too, that the tram is an easy way to reach us from the city centre, stopping outside Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre. Many thanks for giving us five stars.Written 21 February 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 February 2024

It was lovely to be transported to a bygone age. We loved seeing the detail of the ships& it was even sunny for us which is unusual in Scotland. We totally recommend a visit , it’s an amazing experience! It is fantastic that you had a five-star experience following in the footsteps of Royalty aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are glad that you enjoyed the lovely sunshine as you explored all five decks at your own pace while listening to the unique history of Britannia on our complimentary audio guide. - silje H89 contributionsGreat tour in several languagesThe tour was great. I was offered an audio guide in my own language (Norwegian), which was very easy to operate. A really informative tour. The shop was also nice and open. My only complaint is that there was a large group in front of me which made the first part of the tour quite crowded and irritating. The children also had be told not to touch things. Other than that I really recommend this visitMany thanks for choosing to tour The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are glad that you enjoyed listening to the Yacht’s 44 years of Royal history on our free audio guide handset, which is available in over 30 languages, including Norwegian. This allows visitors to take their time and explore Britannia at their leisure.Written 7 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 29 February 2024
- Lesleydunning32 contributionsEnjoyable Tour with best fruit scones ever !!Spent several hours aboard the Royal Yacht . Firstly the staff are so helpful and friendly, the audio guide handsets are easy to use and full of information. We visited first thing on a Wednesday morning and it wasn’t crowded , very pleasant and took our time looking at all the rooms , was really interesting seeing the different ranks of sleeping quarters- don’t know how the lower ranks managed to sleep in those beds ! Stopped at the restaurant halfway round the tour and had the most delicious fruit scone with clotted cream and jam with a pot of tea and a cappuccino, with a sea view to top it off . The scone had been freshly baked onboard and the best I have ever tasted . Again the staff in the restaurant were friendly, sociable and professional. The engine room was quite magnificent. A really enjoyable tour and well worth a visit .How wonderful to learn that you had a great tour of The Royal Yacht Britannia. It is fantastic that you enjoyed using our complimentary audio guide handset to learn more about the Yacht's interesting Royal history. Our team takes great pride in providing a helpful and friendly experience to all our visitors; they will be delighted to know that you found them to be so. It is indeed fascinating to see the different sleeping quarters and imagine life on the Yacht for the crew of Royal Yachtsmen. Whenever the former Royal Yachtsmen return for their annual Yotties’ Week, they do speak so fondly of their time on board. A visit to the stunning Royal Deck Tearoom during your tour to delight in our delicious food and drinks while admiring the views over the Firth of Forth is a great way to re-energize while on board. Our mouthwatering fruit scones are indeed most delicious! Our Galley team will be thrilled to read your compliments. Thank you for your five-star rating and for letting others know that a visit to Britannia is worthwhile.Written 8 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 6 March 2024
- Louise DCork, Ireland7 contributionsLoved itWell worth a visit and I didn't think I would be overly interested in the Royal Yacht. For me one of the highlights of my weekend visit. It was fab to see all the various levels on board. Also the framed pictures around the yacht really showed intimate happy memories that they had on the Britannia. There was a lovely feeling on board and you couldn't help but smile. We are delighted that you did choose to come aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia and that it was a highlight of your visit to Edinburgh. How lovely to know that you had such a wonderful experience. It is great that you noticed the many photographs throughout the tour route which capture the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen enjoying their time on board Britannia.Written 14 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 7 March 2024
- IzzyLondon, United Kingdom101 contributionsA lovely little ship*My visit was in October but owing to family illness I am only just getting around to reviewing my trip to Edinburgh now* The information displays are all very informative and the entrance display as you walk in is a lovely touch. It was great that they provided information on the military personnel who worked aboard the ship and not just the royals. The food in the tea room was very tasty and the staff friendly. I found the entry to be a reasonable price. The yacht has been well maintained over the years. I would’ve liked to have seen a few more fashion pieces worn by the royals though.Thank you for your five-star review of your visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are glad that you enjoyed listening to the informative audio commentary on our complimentary audio guide, learning about life on the Yacht for not only the Royal Family, but the crew of Royal Yachtsmen too. It is great to know that you enjoyed the tasty food in our Royal Deck Tearoom and found our team to be friendly. It is kind of you to point out the hard work of our dedicated Maintenance and Housekeeping teams who keep the Yacht in shipshape condition.Written 14 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 7 March 2024

Personal free French audio guide which allows us to understand and follow the visit at our own pace on the boat. Everything is explained, from the bridge to the engine rooms, please note the entrance is via the shopping center on the 2nd floor. We stayed there for 2 hoursA visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia is indeed a great day out for the whole family! Our complimentary audio guide is available in over 30 languages, including French, helping visitors learn fascinating facts and stories about Britannia and life on board as they explore the many areas of the Yacht from the Bridge, State Apartments, to the Engine Room too. Whilst visitors are welcome to tour at their own pace, we do suggest you allow one and a half to two hours to tour Britannia, allowing extra time to visit the Royal Deck Tearoom and Gift Shop.Written 14 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 March 2024
- Barbara7469Lyon, France317 contributionsA nice visitHave you seen “The Crown”? you have loved ? well you will love the visit to the Royal Yacht. A visit a little out of time, in every sense. I understand the 60 million euros it cost to maintain the boat. It's crazy but it's the story of the Crown, of the Queen and it's really worth the detour. You will have a great time.Indeed, a visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia is a great experience. It is lovely to read that you enjoyed being transported back to the 1950s as you toured our five decks, learning about the 44 years of history of Queen Elizabeth II’s former floating palace.Written 14 March 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 March 2024

- SS Explorer HotelsThe SS Explorer is a historic ship located in Leith Docks in Edinburgh. Built in 1955 as the first purpose built Scottish marine research ship. This extraordinary piece of engineering heritage is a time capsule into life at sea between the 1950’s and 1980’s. The cabins are almost exactly as they were when the ship was decommissioned in 1985, complete with TV’s, phones and life jackets. See the difference between how the crew and officers lived. The SS Explorer Preservation Society intends to restore as much of the ship as possible, including a working main engine and create an exhibition and visitor museum ashore next to the ship. If you are interested in a tour of the SS Explorer please email us to arrange this. Unfortunately due to the historic nature of the ship it is not suitable for those with mobility issues as the many stairs inside are very steep. We are working on ways around this, but at the minute our only solution is a video tour on our website.Read more
