Manchester Museum, one of the largest university museums in the UK, is over one hundred and thirty years old. The original neo-Gothic building was designed by renowned architect Alfred Waterhouse (1830–1905) and is home to around four and a half million objects from natural sciences and human cultures. It has always been a place for research and learning, and we are a critical part of the city’s research infrastructure today. hello future is the name given to the £15 million capital project, which transformed the museum and completed in February 2023. Although our building and objects are important, the hello future transformation was about so much more. We asked ourselves how we can care for people, their ideas, beliefs and relationships. We believe that museums have extraordinary power to build understanding and empathy between cultures, across generations and time.

    Excellent afternoon
This is on par with the natural history museum in London for its great depth of artefacts… the friendly staff and the fact it’s free! Wonderful afternoon to be had exploring the exhibits… especially the Egyptian mummies which are on display Would recommend a good few hours here to have a wander round at pace. Can imagine it’s quieter through the week but even with kids running everywhere it’s a great time
Thank you for your visit to Manchester Museum and for leaving great feedback and photographs! We do hope you’ll come back to visit again.

    Fabulous Museum
This museum is fabulous. It is also free to enter so definitely worth a visit. We were lucky enough to go here whilst the museum have the Golden Mummies of Egypt on display. We did book free tickets online to see the Golden Mummies. It was such a great opportunity for our family to see these mummies and learn some history about Egypt. We had so much fun. The displays were amazing with interesting facts to read. My child really enjoyed the interactive quizzes on Egypt as well. Staff here are very friendly and the gift shop is reasonably priced. We will definitely be back to visit here again, it is fantastic.
Thank you for your visit and for taking time to leave a review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your time with us. We welcome you back to Manchester Museum anytime!

From the moment I stepped through the doors, I felt like I had been transported back in time. The dedicated staff were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the historic artifacts on display. I was especially impressed by the unique artifacts from ancient civilizations, which made me feel like I was part of something much bigger than myself.

    Egyptian Gold
Interesting natural history museum. I don’t know why I’ve never visited here before! Currently there’s a fascinating display of Egyptian mummies and associated artefacts, mainly from the Roman (AD) period. There’s some good dinosaur and natural history exhibits in the regular collections along with galleries for Chinese and South East Asian displays. Good shop full of Christmas gift ideas and nice cafe for coffee and cake. Well worth a visit.

    Amazing
I've lived in Manchester for years but I'd never been before. It's incredible, and huge. I don't think you could get round it all in one day. The main things we went to see were the current "Golden Mummies" exhibition and the dinosaurs. It's worth going just for the T Rex.
Thank you for visiting us at Manchester Museum - we are so glad that you enjoyed your time here. We do hope you'll come back again to see us (and Stan the T-Rex) soon.

    History & Harmony
We visited here for the first time and were greeted at the desk by a lovely man who was very helpful. As we walked around staff would often say hello which made us feel very welcome. We had a hot chocolate and cold drink after viewing the mummy exhibition and it was delicious, the coffee bar also had a lovely selection of pastries to choose from. There was so much to see and it kept us entertained for hours. The vivarium section is such a peaceful touch, we had a conversation with a nice man who was looking after the vivariums and he gave us some personal insights as to what it is like looking after the frogs, which we loved. To end the visit we had lunch in the cafe and the atmosphere was lovely, although busy, we sat in a quiet corner. We were served by some lovely ladies who were very apologetic that my jacket potato was running a bit late, this did not put us off at all, the food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We can’t wait to visit again :)

  • Manchester Jewish Museum Hotels
Manchester Jewish Museum is a place to experience how we are different, together. Our museum first opened in 1984, housed in a Grade II* listed 1874 (former) Spanish and Portuguese synagogue in Cheetham Hill, one of the most diverse areas in Manchester. Following a £6m redevelopment and extension our new museum includes a new gallery, vegetarian café, shop and learning studio & kitchen as well as complete restoration of our synagogue. We connect Jewish stories to the world and to our society to explore both our differences and similarities and celebrate that which makes people unique and that which connects us all. In doing so we look to spark reaction and change and to make real the knowledge that there is more that binds us together than separates us. We boldly explore and combine educational, cultural and artistic experiences to encourage those with whom we come into contact to feel and believe that we are all better together. We make connections to make things better.
