Hotels near Piazza San Marco

It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

    The heartbeat of Venice
There's so much to see and do around here and a Venice card is the best way to experience it. What a great atmosphere and the best way to feel the very pulse of Venice is definitely around this area. You could easily spend hours around here day or night.

    Well worth a visit
Packed even at the end of October but absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. The information office is less than helpful and more interested in selling you a city map but scattered about are tourist helpers who really are helpful. The cafes, restaurants and souvenir stands around the square are expensive and over priced but a two minute walk off the square there are more sensible priced shops and cafes. Beware of low flying pigeons. Well worth a visit even without entering any of the attractions.

    very nice
The square is under reconstruction, hopefully they ill finish it soon. The composition of the square is fantastic. The surrounding buildings create a specific athmosphere. Pigeons are gone, now we have gulls, beware of your food. We had aqua alta, so could experience the specialty of Venice: walking on water :D :D

    Landmark of Venice
Sunday it was full of people but on weekdays, it was pretty empty towards end of day. Nice place for pictures, St Mark Bacilica was glorious, EU3 to enter, no queue at all. Christmas tree is up here as well.

    Saint Marks is amazing
Yo, so St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) in Venice is legit famous for being drop-dead gorgeous, packed with history, and just buzzing with life. The St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace, both throwing vibes from the square, are like the main event in the architectural beauty pageant. You've got this sick atmosphere going on with live tunes, chill cafes, and pigeons doing their thing – it's like a whole vibe. But real talk, 'cause it's such a hot spot, it can get mega-crowded, especially when the tourist hustle is at its peak. That can mess with the chill vibe for some folks. But, like, overall, it's a must-hit spot in Venice. The architecture is on point, and it's basically the cultural HQ of the city. If you're around, you gotta check it out – it's the real deal.

    As good as it gets!
We visited late December to avoid summer crowds. Gorgeous winter weather meant our gamble payed off but it was still crowded though far from summer numbers I experienced before! Renting an apartment close by allowed us to visit early morning, to watch the sun rise, gorgeous, late evening to watch the light fade and enjoy reflected street lights, gorgeous, as well as through the day to savour the cathedral and the Doge’s Palace. You could not get bored here, stupendous!

Drawing room of Europe, masterpiece on an artist canvas!
Piazza San Marco in the heart of Venice is probably the most famous public square in the world. Jostling for a spot around the square are the “who’s who” of Venice, each trying to outdo each other with their eye-catching structures - St Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, the towering St Mark’s Campanile, St Mark’s Clocktower (Torre dell’Orologio), the old and new Procuraties, Biblioteca Marciana (library), the two large granite columns carrying the symbols of the 2 patron saints of Venice (ie Saint Theodore and Lion of Venice) and even the pigeons. Whichever angle you pose for your photo in this square, you’re almost guaranteed of capturing the best of Venice, like an art masterpiece on an artist canvass. No wonder Napoleon purportedly called it “the world’s most beautiful drawing room”.

    Vibrant square in Venice
We visited this vibrant square located in Venice on our first day. Initially it was partially under water with elevated planks to walk on to prevent your shoes getting wet. Thankfully our next 3 days the square was mostly dry. Its the hub of Venice and a busy bustling square with lots of cafes and bars and located waterfront. Beware of tourist traps and check the reviews if dining here. I loved the musicians who played music here. You must visit the San Marco Basillica and the Bell Tower. The Bell Tower has magfnificant views from the top.

    Beautiful Venice
Took the bullet train from Rome to visit Venice. Piazza San Marco has truly marvelous scenery. The grand architecture, the iconic Basilica, the Campanile tower, and the lively atmosphere with cafes and pigeons adds to this captivating city experience. We Enjoyed Venice and its history.
