    Well worth the effort
When in Athens you cannot avoid seeing Mount Lycabettus and it is inviting you to climb up - which you should. However, if you want to do it by yourself (no guide) you should be aware of a few details. It is quite a long and steep walk even to the funicular, and it is terribly (not) signposted, so you probably shall need to ask for directions. the Greek word is teleferic (Τελεφερίκ). It is a good 20 minutes walk from the metro ((Evangelismos). The alternative is of course taking a taxi. Walking down is easy, and it takes about 40-45 minutes from the top to Syntagma Square. Both the view from the top and the beautiful walk down make it worth while.

    Magnificent point of view
We went to the summit on foot with the children via the east slope, the walk is nice and shady at the top it was windy and cool the view is very beautiful, we took photos to go down there is a zigzagging path between the cacti which leads quickly to the city center.

    Overview of Athens
Panoramic view of the entire city... unmissable!! Be careful though of the funicular scam for 3 minutes... 8€ one way or 10€ return... if you don't have too much difficulty, take the street to the left of the funicular and the climb takes 20 minutes... once at the top, the view is beautiful but the cramped place makes us prefer by far the serenity of Philoppapos hill and its superb view of the Acropolis!!

    Great view over Athens
Beautiful panoramic view of Athens. The top is easy to reach on foot if you don't want to take the (overpriced) train. The path is well developed, depending on where you start from there is also a footpath up to about halfway as a shortcut. The path on foot is also interesting due to the botany, among other things it is lined with cacti (full of prickly pears in April). The only drawback: the viewing platform is quite crowded, it is hardly possible to take photos from the front row and without heads in the picture.

    Great views- strenuous climb!
There are amazing views as you climb up the hill- we walked all the way and it is strenuous!!! There are a lot of steps at the start in kolonaki district and then a steady winding path. Even if you take the funicular there are a lot of steps to get to the base station, unless you get transport to drop you at the funicular station. At the top is a little church and it gets very very crowded at the top. The views are actually better just before the top as there is nothing obstructing it. The view across Athens and out to the coast is fantastic. We also stopped at the cafe on the way down and this was lovely- great place to stop for a drink and take in the views. Free to walk up. Funiculars costs.

    Great view, short hike
Short hike on Athens' local mountain. Great view. Café and restaurant at the top. We climbed up from the back right of the mountain and were completely alone there. The main route down and there are also a lot of people 😝.

    Worth the climb
Great viewing point but busy busy busy in July at sunset The walk from the city up many steps was a challenge. Even using the Telefonica. There is a very smart bar restaurant at the top which was lovely to sit in and if you book some outside tables with great views. Just remember this is a honey pot for insta-photos and hope that people are kind enough to let you have your moment.

    Grand view of Athens
Great place to get above Athens, see the rooftops of the entire city, all the way down to Piraeus and the Saronic Gulf. (Note it.can be quite windy up there.) Little church of St. George sits atop the mountain with beautiful icons, but no pics allowed inside. Stop in for a frappe or snack at the mountaintop bar/restaurant. Halfway down the mountain by walking path is the Green Tent restaurant; what great food and a beautiful experience at sunset (see pic). The taramosalata was the best I've ever had. You can either walk to the summit or take the funicular rail.

Definitely worth doing if you’re in Athens and have a spare couple of hours
12:00 We took the funicular tramway to the top of Mount Lycabettus for the best views of Athens. There are various opinions about hiking up the mountain and I guess it depends on your preference. For us, we just really wanted to see Athens from the top and visit the beautiful little church there so we took the easy option. The mountain itself is beautiful and the views amazing. Lots of people try to go at sunset to see the views at that time of day and we can certainly see why. The funicular is fun and good value. The little church at the top is very interesting and there are some options on the top for re-fueling (see separate review). All in all, definitely worth doing if you’re in Athens and have a spare couple of hours.

The best experiences are often the unplanned ones!
The morning after arriving in Athens after a long flight, I woke up before dawn, due to jet lag. Looking for an interesting way to start my first full day in Athens, I consulted my All Trails app to find a scenic hike nearby. Lycabettus Hill popped up just 1.6 km from our hotel. Little did I know that I would be hiking to the highest point in central Athens and would be greeted by stunning 360 degree views of Athens and beyond. As I climbed up, I encountered only a handful of people. Shortly after I reached the top where St. George Chapel is, two members of the Greek military arrived to begin the ritual of raising the flag. That was a treat to witness, as the sun emerged from behind the clouds. The hike up can be strenuous if you want to get up there quickly. For those who want to take a more casual approach, there are terrace cafes along the climb and at the top, as well as several places to stop and take photos.

  • Acropolis Hotels
This ancient citadel, built in the fifth century B.C., towers over the city and is home to some of the most impressive ancient ruins, buildings, and artifacts. The most famous temple, the Parthenon, was dedicated to the goddess Athena and is considered the peak of Greek art. You can avoid long lines by joining a walking tour of the site. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen, as the walk up the hill can be steep and exposed to the sun. For the best experience, visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and for fewer crowds. – Tripadvisor

  • Panathenaic Stadium Hotels
The Panathenaic Stadium dates back to the 4th century B.C. and was the site of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 and remains the starting point of the Olympic flame torch relay. Made entirely of white marble, it's an impressive sight that's earned it the nickname Kallimarmaro or "beautiful marble". There are even a couple of hours in the morning designated for morning jogs when you run in the footsteps of former Olympians. Take a stroll up to Ardittos Hill for a panoramic view of the stadium.
