Hotels near Prague Zoo

Prague Zoological Garden is situated near the center of the Czech capital, in a unique rugged landscape on the bank of the Vltava River. It opened in 1931 and during its existence of more than 80 years it has risen to become one of the most prestigious zoos in the world. Today, it is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic, just after Prague Castle. 5,049 animals and 676 species live in Prague Zoo. You can explore 13 pavilions and 150 exhibits over 58 hectares. The kids will love the Bororo Reserve, chairlift, mini-train, observation tower, paddling pool and Children’s Zoo. The pride of the zoo is its Elephant Valley, home to a sizeable herd of Asian elephants. The Giant Salamander House, where you can see the largest amphibians in the world – the critically endangered Chinese Giant Salamanders – is extraordinary as well; and the African House with an adjacent vast meadow inhabited by herds of antelopes and giraffes is worth your attention, too.

    Spacious zoo, amazing animals
Loved it and definitely worth visiting. As we went in January a lot of animals were inside or weren't even there and probably at another zoo. The indoor cages seemed slightly small but you could see they had more space behind them that the public couldn't see into. Despite this, the outdoor enclosures are massive and the animals clearly have so much space and are attended to very well. It probably is amazing here in the summer. It was also really cheap to get in compared to prices at home (roughly £11 in Prague and about £35 in England). A lot of restaurants etc were closed probably to save money in the quieter months so I'd say definitely worth a visit in spring before it gets too busy in the summer.

    Wow!
It seemed to us that the ZOO has doubled in size and in the number of animals in 5 years since we last visited. Family ticket is 1000CZK and it’s well worth it. We were there for 6 hours and could have stayed longer. I recommend buying a map at the entrance (20CZK if I remember correctly) because it’s a large area and it goes uphill. We had lunch in a restaurant Golab and we were pleasantly surprised because we had low expectations (food in Zoo’s are usually poor quality and overpriced) bit it was quite delicious - especially Thai chicken and reasonably priced. Don’t miss the ZOO when visiting Prague!!

    fantastic
This place was amazing! we got a cab from our hotel, but lots of trams & trains stop right outside! (we were just tired!) Very cheaply priced considering how much fun we had. All the animals are clearly well cared for, with huge enclosures for them, with lots of enrichment going on. Lots of hills, so bring your walking shoes! several places to sit and rest tho' the places to eat are SO good, they were actually better than some of the cities restaurant's! and so very cheap. we easily spent 4hrs there, but you could spend way more fantastic day out

    Lovely zoo
I was apprehensive about going to the zoo but it was amazing! The majority of animals have a great enclosure and look very well cared for, I’m very pleased that they have plans to completely change the polar bear enclosure because it needs it, badly! High light for me was watching the hippos and seeing the elephants! Lovely zoo overall and absolutely massive!

Excellent activity with kids in prague
We have visited the zoo during our stay in Prague, with our kids. I am not fan of zoos due to the feeling i get when looking at them in cages. Anyhow, the general feeling that we got in Prague is that the animals are treated very well with care and love. The zoo has a lot of information in English, which is very helpful to learn more about the animals. I loved the information about whether the species are in danger or not. We spent around 6 hours in the zoo and still we have not seen everything. It was a wonderful experience. We brought our own food so we do not know the prices of the restaurants.

    Family trip to the zoo
First time visitors to this zoo. We had a really enjoyable day. Zoo is very clean and animals looked very well cared for. Plenty of places to buy drinks and snacks and use the loo. Lots of walking so wear comfy shoes. We enjoyed seeing the penguins and gorillas but was disappointed not to see the polar bears.

    Beautiful experience
On the last day of our trip to Prague, since we had already visited the whole city, we decided to go to the famous zoo. We were absolutely delighted, enthusiastic and happy to have had this experience. There are many animal species from those located in the African savannah to Indonesia. We recommend at least 5 hours to be able to visit everything properly. The animals appear to be treated in full compliance with the rules and ethics regarding their respect and protection. The chairlift with which you can admire the beautiful panorama of Prague is also wonderful

    Absolutely amazing
I cannot recommend this zoo enough. It was absolutely fantastic and by far the best zoo I have ever been to. Thousands of animals and species - every animal you could want to see. Quite steep in some parts, so I would recommend getting the cable car up to the top section of the zoo. A few more undercover picnic areas would be a nice addition. You can get up close and personal with some animals such as the kangaroos and wallabies as you can go into the enclosure and walk amongst them, which was a brilliant experience. If you are going to Prague, you have to go to the zoo. Family friendly.

    Super, super Zoo.
This is how a zoo should be, all the animals have plenty of room to move around and more. Well signposted, toilets everywhere and very reasonable food with a great choice. We walked around for 5 1/2 hrs and not sure if we saw it all. All the animals seemed to be happy in there surroundings and the high light for us were the hippo`s as they swan under water right past the glass, they were inches away, not a place to miss.

    Do Zoo!
First of all the price for entry to the Zoo is so cheap in comparison to what you would pay in the UK. And although I wasn't that bothered about visiting the Zoo, we had been recommended to by a few people and I have to say, I'm so glad we did! By far the best Zoo I have ever visited. The animals are so well looked after and you can get really close up to them. There are so many animals to see and although it was quite cloudy on the day we visited, the views are wonderful! We loved the cable car ride from the top to the bottom part of the Zoo. Also don't bother taking food....eat at the Zoo. It certainly isn't the normal fast food sticky table experience you often experience at the Zoo, the food was restaurant standard and big portions! It was reasonably priced too. I must add that it was quite quiet the day we visited so I suppose the restaurant experience may be different if the Zoo is full but this was our experience this day. If you're in two minds about whether to visit...definitely do it!
