- Parksfamily2014Guildford, United Kingdom119 contributionsWe were sceptical at the “ free admission “ here (an unusual offering for Cornwall!) and assumed it would be shops plus small attraction. How wrong we were ! A fascinating display on the site of an old tin mill , with still working stamps, old newspaper cuttings and photos, chance to see artisans at work. For youngsters - free “ gold panning”; dressing up clothes to try on, and space to explore. There is also an optional pottery painting and build a bear workshop on site ( obviously with charges) but these are not set up to prompt pester power and are subtly located aside from main entrance. Lovely adjacent cafe, reasonable prices and tasty treats. Whole attraction is dog friendly. Definitely worth a visit.Thank you for such a wonderful review! We are extremely proud of our heritage and love to showcase the rich milling history here on site. Tolgus Mill is an ongoing restoration project and It is wonderful to hear such positive feedback, we very much look forward to welcoming you again when you are next in the area.Written 11 April 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 April 2024
- Gillian P140 contributionsWe decided to stop here on our way home from our holiday to enjoy a cooked breakfast to set us up for the day. We arrived at around 9.45 ish and the restaurant was already filling up. There were 9 of us so we split over two tables. We all had cooked breakfast served on shovels, including 3 of us having veggie breakfast. We were warned there was a wait as it was so busy, but the kids were supplied with crayons and pictures to colour and oh boy it was worth the wait. Beautifully served on shovel plates, gorgeous crispy and not the least bit oily hash browns and plenty of it, all good and hot. I'd like to try the ploughman's on the lunch menu so maybe next time we'll have lunch on the way home.Thank you for your wonderful 5* review, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your breakfast and the children enjoyed the activity sheets. We will be sure to pass your kind comments onto the team and look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit. best wishes CGWritten 22 October 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 October 2024
- Jo MBristol, United Kingdom17 contributionsGreat option for us on a drizzly January morning. Interesting displays, some interactive activities, dress up, gold panning etc. Lovely cafe, delicious drinks and food. Most notably absolutely outstanding service from Amber and Caroline in the jewellery section when our 4 year old wanted to spend her saved pocket money on something shiny and sparkly. They were kind, patient and understanding and found us something she loves. She’s saving up before our next holiday and we will be back. Thank youThank you Jo for your amazing 5* review! We are so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your visit. We have an amazing team here at CG who work extremely hard to offer a truly fantastic service to all our visitors and it is wonderful to hear how Amber and Caroline made your visit to us so memorable. - Bettina DBirmingham, United Kingdom7 contributionsI saw that they did a good breakfast and we were not disappointed.. Apart from the ‘restaurant’ there was an exhibition based on Tin Mine about the history of the site. Also sold Jewellery containing elements from the area in their gold and silver pieces including granite and tin. Also offer a repair and redesign of old jewellery. The assistant was helpful and knowledgeable. Yes I did buy earrings, but found it difficult to choose as there were so many lovely pieces.Thank you for the 5* review Bettina. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your recent visit, and completely agree its so hard to choose just the one item when your surrounded by so many beautiful pieces, thankfully there's always our website where you can shop online 24/7 until you are able to visit us in person again. We hope you enjoy wearing your earrings and look forward to welcoming you back again soon Best wishes CGWritten 20 June 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 June 2024
- Isabelle BWelwyn, United Kingdom24 contributionsVery interesting free museum about the mining and the extraction of tin. A fascinating insight into the life of this valley during the Industrial Revolution. The jewellery shop is large and showcases many beautiful pieces, but nothing much below £50. Since they mix the tin they still produce from the mill in their gold or silver items, I wish they would also offer a range of purely tin or pewter items, which would be cheaper and which visitors could buy as souvenirs or gifts. The café (The Cornish Pantry) serves good food but service was very slow when we visited.Thank you for the fantastic 5* review! Our Tolgus tin Mill is an ongoing restoration, something we are extremely passionate about, so we are thrilled to hear you enjoyed the free Tolgus exhibition during your visit. This is a new addition to highlight the Tolgus tin mill and its rich history to ensure it is preserved for future generations. Thank you also for the feedback on our product range, although we do feel we offer a vast range of products to suit all budgets and styles starting from as little as £15, we love to hear ideas and suggestions from our visitors and will be sure to feed your comments back to our product design team. We hope to welcome you back again soon. - Harlynwood4 contributionsThe update the site has had has been lovely to see. There were plenty of activities to keep the children occupied and engaged. The staff at the Pottery Painting were lovely and patient - pottery prices are also very reasonable. Donna in the Jewellery section was a real credit to the Company. My children were enthralled with her when we were picking a pearl and her customer service was second to none. It’s been a wonderful afternoon out and we will definitely be going again.Thank you for your wonderful 5* review. We are thrilled to hear you appreciated the recent changes we have made. It was actually myself that served you on the pick a pearl the day you visited and I am so pleased to hear how yourself and your children enjoyed the experience. Thank you so much for your lovely comments and for taking the time to leave a review, we look forward to welcoming you all back again soon.Written 26 August 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 August 2024
- LondonMarion104Bromley, United Kingdom707 contributionsMy children has so much fun here. They loved the panning for gold, the history, the crafting. We were so busy we didn’t even see everything. Such a great family activity place and the cafe looked lovely. Staff were lovely and helpful, a great day out for all, we even saw families with older kids also having a lovely time. Don’t go at the end of your holiday, in case you want to glaze your crafts, they take 3 days 👌Thank you for the fantastic 5 * review! - Tracy WWoking, United Kingdom29 contributionsWe visited on a full overcast morning looking for something to fill a few hours. We were both pleasantly surprised at how informative the exhibits were for the time milling process. We are both interested in history and particularly working people's lived experiences so enjoyed the chance to look around the tin mill machinery. The café delivered an excellent breakfast meal in bright airy surroundings. The highlight of the visit was a slow browse of the beautiful jewellery before choosing a made to measure bracelet. The shop staff were all friendly and helpful without being intrusive or rushing our choices, a very rare skill in retail these days. We also took time to choose a teddy for our granddaughters birthday in the Make A Bear workshop. Lots of cute teddy "skins" to choose from. A definite winner for a visit during a Cornish holiday.Thank you for the fantastic review! It's great to hear how much you enjoyed the whole experience during your visit. We work very hard to create the best experience for our visitors and are thrilled to read the review of your day. We will be sure to pass your kind comments onto the team who we know will very much appreciate it. The Tolgus Mill is an ongoing restoration and we are passionate about highlighting the rich Milling history and preserving it for generation's to come, so it is music to our ears to hear how you appreciated the new free Tolgus exhibition. We hope you enjoy wearing your beautiful new bracelet, wish your granddaughter a wonderful birthday and look forward to welcoming you back on your next Cornish Holiday. - Ladykane1982Chingford, United Kingdom1,086 contributionsWe had a lovely visit to Cornwall gold whilst on our summer holiday, we had lunch in the pantry, although we queued for quiet some time to place our order, it was worth the wait. The breakfast baps are delicious. Good value for money. We then spent around 90mins looking for the “gold”! It was a very enjoyable experience and free of charge, although a donations box is available, all gold found you are able to take home. Highly recommend Cornwall Gold for visitThank you for the wonderful review!
