After a walk around Nymans Garden, us 4 adults were in need of food and drink. Our friend suggested the Wheatsheaf, as he had been there a couple years ago and they had a Brazilian Chef, who served delicious food, We gave it a try, he was still there, and were not disappointed. On entry there was a friendly, efficient welcome from the lovely lady behind the bar, as she ascertained if we were dining or just drinking. She directed us to a table in the quirky decorated pub. We ordered the 2 Brazilian meals on the menu. 2 Moqueca for the ladies and 2 Lamb Xinxim for the men. Both dishes were delicious, plenty of tender lamb, in a great sauce with rice in mine and meaty fish, on the bone, another great sauce and rice for my wife. Simple food cooked to perfection. The waiting staff were friendly and very proficient, Would definitely return, as a few other dishes I would like to try on the lunch and main menu. My only criticism, please could we have a couple more Brazilian dishes on the menu?

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Wheatsheaf for dinner and drinks with my friends. The food was DELICIOUS (I'd personally recommend the homemade bread with hummus and babaganoush, it was so fresh and yummy). The staff were super welcoming and attentive which gave the restaurant a warm and friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly which is a huge plus! There was also a log fire and cosy couch area indoors to relax in after our meal, which I loved. Would absolutely recommend, can't wait to return when I'm back in the area.

Had a takeaway fish and chip supper with peas. It was really lovely. The chips were hand cut and still slightly crispy, so not like usual takeaway chips. Very nice indeed. The batter on the fish was still nicely crispy and the peas were really tasty (as if they’ve been cooked in chicken stock). All in all a really good takeaway, modestly priced. Would recommend.

We joined 4 family members for lunch and felt there were too many people under current rules. So much so that the car park was totally full. We had prebooked a table in the marquee which was given to another party so we had to go outside and move an old bench ourselves to accommodate us. Two of us complained as the beef was not edible and the manger had the audacity to respond with “well no one else complained” The chicken was dry and over cooked and the majority of meals being delivered was chicken. The service was slow and at times non existent so had to go inside to pay as waited so long. On top of all this a 10% service charge was added without our knowledge even though service was awful. Will not being going again.

Thank you for your comments and sorry you feel we have let you down. The manager did everything she could to try to solve the issues with no avail!! The only reason you came inside to pay your bill wasn't for the fact that service was slow but because you were told that there was no internet reception out in the garden and all the bills had to be paid inside!! As for having too many people, our garden is big and we follow all government guiding lines including social distance.

Have just had lunch here but meal very disappointing. We had the fish and chips and chicken burger. The chips were over cooked and very crispy as if they were old chips reheated. Could not eat most of them. The place was nearly empty so cannot use the excuse they were too busy. When mentioning this to staff, found them unhelpful and miserable. I asked for 25% discount which seemed fair. All they would do is take off service charge of £3, which for a pub putting on a service charge for two people seems unfair anyway. Should you have to pay nearly £40 for a meal that is not up to the standard it should be! The whole place is very tired, with tatty outside tables and chairs. Will definitely not be going back there again, which is a shame as I am local.

Thank you for your comments and I'm sorry you feel we have let you down. Asking for a 25% off your bill because you didn't like the chips feels also unfair! What the staff did was take the value of the chips of your bill. Our staff is always friendly and whiling to compromise. I'm not going to apologize for the state of the "tire and tatty" outside tables and chairs as we have just partly come out of a very long full lockdown as you probably know; so sorry that things are not up to your standard here at the moment!!

We found the staff at the Wheatsheaf to be friendly and welcoming and the pub has a relaxed feel with a good atmosphere. The arancini and tiger prawn starters were full of flavour. I had the veggie burger as a main and that was tasty too. The other 2 people in our party had the fish pie, which was freshly made and cooked, and they both enjoyed it.

We popped in here for lunch having been to the Sussex Prairie gardens. Everything was excellent. The service and welcome was efficient and very friendly. The menu was enticing and more importantly they could deliver it. My husband had a beautifully cooked rib eye steak and I had an absolutely delicious chicken parmigiana. All in all a great experience.

A relaxed Early dinner on a Friday night with children might have been wishful thinking but the Wheatsheaf provided great food, relaxed atmosphere and a table for 7! The garden proved a hit with children and when we came in to eat, there was a wonderful choice of food including a children’s menu. We enjoyed trying out some Brazilian dishes as well as a favourite belly of pork . We loved the fact that there were lots of locals in, chatting and eating and generally chilling out. Great place!

Myself and my friend had the most delicious dinner (their chicken parm is one of the best dishes I have ever tasted). The staff were super friendly and attentive. Lovely atmosphere and unique decor. There was also specific hygiene stations with hand sanitiser, and all doors were open to avoid cross contamination. Can't wait to return😊.

Had dinner there and all I,can say the food and atmosphere was excellent. We had the sea bass and the scallops dishes which were 1st class .Considering the personnel news that has hit this pub in the last few weeks I feel that they are all doing a fantastic job and just shows the value of great teamwork

I went last time with my daughter in laws parents and I had a great steak on the lunch menu, but when the bill came they had tried to charge for my drink which was included on the menu. When I challenged it they took a pound off. Today I went with a friend and had a burger which was burnt so I had to cut the burned bits off. I should have sent it back but I don't usually complain and wasn't going to say anything. But then there was confusion whether the burger was on the main or lunch menu..So I mentioned it. That meant it was £6 more. I accepted a 20% discount but will stop reccomending them.now. Also my friend asked for a gf burger but when it came there was no roll and they still charged him full price..

Fabulous family friendly pub. Relaxed, homely atmosphere - quirky interiors that give the place bags of character. Brazilian food was incredibly tasty and well presented and kids loved their pizzas! Definitely will return. Super friendly and made us feel most welcome. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

Such excellent service from all members of the team here. We had a table booked days in advance, but turned up to find they were just back online after a power cut! With the gentleman explaining how he’d tried calling us (a valiant 4 times) but he’d been forced to send everyone home and close for the day. He apologetically invited us in for a drink and out of the rain whilst we waited for our in-laws, but by the time they’d arrived the handful of staff present had been able to present us with a mini menu of items they were now able to make and serve if we wished to stay! They even rustled up a special improvised plate for the vegan amongst us, including a homemade hummus pot which I’m told was delicious. The other meals were also absolutely lovely, fantastic quality, and quite astounding in the wake of a total power failure! We happily reviewed the desert menu, but were unfortunately stuffed full, so finished the visit off with some coffees. A total 180 from walking up to the “Closed Due To Powercut” sign with a sigh, definitely all down to the amazing staff (including the owner/manager I believe) who could not have been better hosts. Many thanks!

My husband and I visited here with our 9 month old baby boy. It had a lovely atmosphere, the team including the resident dogs were very friendly! The play area was a little old for him, but he still had a great time on the pirate ship with Daddy! The food was absolutely delicious! I do usually love a burger & chips, but as the restaurant has a part Brazilian theme, my husband & I wanted to make the most of the menu choice. We shared the spanish olives, hummus and flatbread to start. My husband had pulled pork quesadillas with a home-grown salad for main and I opted for the Brazilian fish stew. It was phenomenal, so glad I ordered out of my comfort zone! Definitely recommend!
