Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Laura our waitress last night, she was so welcoming and helpful and really looked after us - the food was all excellent and all the staff were great but Laura stood out! The six of us have straightaway rebooked for Saturday, our last night here...treat!More

Just visited the restaurant for roast dinner and it was disappointing. 2 out of the 5 of us dining thought it was ‘ok’ but the other 2 adults hated it! Grey gravy, odd roast potatoes, and a struggle to get the chef to allow a...Yorkshire pudding on roast pork, even after we said we’d pay extra! Luckily the waitress understood the importance of customer service. Maybe the chef was having a bad day, because all the other reviews tell a different story to our experience. The waitresses who served us were both lovely and worked really hard.More

Gorgeous lunch at the Bassett today..booked a table to be on the safe side..on arrival very friendly greeting by the bar staff...we chose Mussels cooked in creamy cider sauce with skinny chips from the specials board...they were probably the best Mussels we've eaten ..even better...than Roscoff and they took some beating. The mussel meat filled the shell in almost all if them... the sauce was very tasty and the skinny fries went down well..My husband is coeliac and was reassured by the landlady that his food would be gluten free...will definitely be back again and won't leave it so long next time..friendly atmosphere great local pub..thanks for a lovely lunch..More

The rudest waitress i have ever have the displeasure to be served by. When we asked for some onion rings we were told they weren't on the menu and if we didn't like it we could eat elsewhere! As to the food, its like the...song from the musical, grease is the word. We had such a bad time we refused to pay. Never again.More

Ate in the restaurant for dinner. The staff were fine, but the food was not great or even good. Limited options for food, and the food was poor for presentation and taste. Also thought it was expensive for what was served.

Booked after looking on TripAdvisor which pub had the best reviews in Portreath. Friendly lady answered the phone . A nice welcome. Yes, it looks like the locals were up the bar but we had a very friendly welcome. Ordered both the specials . Seafood...stew with salmon, King prawns and Mussels. In a rich tomato sauce. Green lipped Mussels in a cider cream sauce with plenty of shallots. We also asked for fresh vegetables as we have eaten too many pasties and chips. A nicely steamed portion of fresh carrots, broccoli, peas and mange tout was shared. Lovely friendly staff and superb food. Highly recommendMore

Food was alright, but we were a bit disappointed with the service. The waiter accidentally took two of our meals (there was three in total) to the table opposite who to be fair had ordered the same but ordered way after us. The waiter apologised...but why I wouldn't visit again is because the Manager and two owners never came over to apologise (but they did to the table who was now eating two of our meals!?) I ate my meal and the others had to wait for theirs to be cooked again, as the other table had started eating the food.More

We visited the Basset Arms 4 times whilst on holiday in Portreath (we stayed at Gwel an Mor a mile up the road). Throughout those visits we had lunch, dinner and Sunday lunch and all were delicious. The food is fresh and the portions are...large and good value. The pub has a friendly, local feel to it and we had a great time here. It is very dog friendly too and our little dog loved it here. Would highly recommend if you are in Portreath.More

Excellent food, perfectly cooked, delightful atmosphere, wonderful service, great value. We have come to Cornwall almost every spring for forty years. We eat out a lot and this is the first time we have tried the Basset Arms. From the moment we entered and were...seated, we were made to feel at ease. The waitress was cheerful, helpful and a model of how to serve customers. We had scallops with salad and topside with vegetables. Portions were very generous and the price was excellent. We are here for a week and will be going back. What a superb place.More
