Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been to copper dog many times but dont think we'll be back. Very disappointed with menu, very basic, nothing like the menu was before. When going out for a celebration you expect something better than a school lunch menu -sausages, steak pie, fish!...They had run out of broccoli so some meals came with cabbage, definitely school lunch vive. There was 1 steak on menu that came with chips but nothing else-no sauce or sides. When going out I expect something different and more exciting than we have a home especially when steak pie is £16.50 and you buy the pie at Dawsons for a 1/3 of that price. Chef must be soooo bored cooking such a basic menu. Never again!More

A lovely dinner at The Spey Inn - formerly the Copper Dog inside the Craigellachie Hotel. Cozy, contemporary pub space with a lively atmosphere and excellent food. Don't miss the upstairs whisky bar (near hotel reception) and it is open to nonhotel guests too. Would...recommend booking a table for dinner, as the restaurant was quite busy and popular among locals and tourists alike.More

Visited to make a reservation for dinner for my birthday. Was disappointed to find limited choice for gluten free options. F and B manager stated there was limited choice of 7 options of which up to 50% were gluten free. Additionally F and B manager...said no chicken option as it was too expensive!!! Options were: Fish and chips, steak, Burger. I live in Peterhead I can have best battered fish there!!!More

Just average. A bit characterless scottish twee. Staff friendly but poured a 175 instead of 250 wine, which at the per glass charge was annoying. Salmon starter was good. The steak pie was dry and flaky although the vegetables were OK. My wife had the...haddock and the gluten free batter was terrible. I get really annoyed with places that slap 12.5% discretionary service on the bill. Why not add to the cost or pay your staff better. This is a nasty US trait that has no place in Scotland. Service is Service and is in the eye of the beholder.More

We went after purchasing an itison voucher. Two courses plus two drinks for £39, which turned out to be great value. I had the haggis bon bons and my wife had the salmon to start, both delicious. Main courses were the haddock and chips and...double burger and fries, both equally as good. Beautiful hotel and restaurant and the staff were very polite and friendly. We would definitely return.More

Excellent service, good food, warm atmosphere. Classy. Superb and very impressive whiskey bar. The only thing I didn't really like was the pretty loud music that we didn't consider matched the classy overall feeling we have of the place.

Whilst staying nearby stumbled across this little gem. We went for the Roast Beef dinner it did not disappoint. Lovely atmosphere, great attentive staff and very warm and welcoming pub. After lunch decided to relax by the fire and enjoy a couple of local whiskeys....Highly recommendMore

Popped in to the Cooper Dog now the Spey Inn last week as we couldn't get in the Mash Tun. The staff were excellent, warm, friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. We cancelled our dinner booking at the Mash Tun on the back of...it and had dinner the next night which was excellent again, high quality and in a lovely atmosphere. We returned for drinks on another two occasions. The young people that looked after us need to be commended for their efforts and the management for selecting people and installing a great attitude to service. Well done all at the Craigellachie, we will be back again the next time we are up in Speyside. Best regards Ken ScottMore

A nice atmosphere in an old hotel. Quite spacious as opposed to many places in Scotland. Very good food and service. The only place we found Cranachan. I believe they have changed the name to The Spey Inn

We went in to get a later lunch on a Saturday with family. They started by serving us 3 pints of the most rancid, vinegary Old Jock I have ever tasted. I find it very hard to believe that it had gone that badly off...over the course of one day. The barstaff replaced them with other drinks with no fuss, but I was dismayed to see that when we went to the bar to pay, the pump clip was still on, implying that they were still serving this awful beer. The food was OK - not great, standard pub grub, but at fine dining prices. Their veggie selection was quite disappointing. Then to add insult to injury they slap on a 12.5% service charge, which I don't recall seeing anywhere on the menu. We were a group of 4 adults and 1 child, so hardly a large party. Really not impressed.More

We tried to book a table for 11 guests, consisting of family and friends, the night before a wedding. We phoned almost 3 weeks in advance to try and book, since tables of 8 or over cannot be booked online. The first time phoning we...were told we would receive a phone back shortly, after they had spoken with the restaurant manager to confirm the booking. Over 24 hours later there had been still no response, so we called again and was told the same thing, they would chase it up and get back to us with confirmation. Another 48 hours went by with no response. We then phoned again to check up on the booking only to be told the restaurant manager won't make a decision on the booking so both the member of staff and ourselves were left in limbo. Left infuriated at the ignorance and lack of service just trying to book a table we decided we would no longer like to book with them since our custom is not appreciated. We have went to the copper dog (now named the Spey Inn) for several years and loved it, however we will not be returning due to this huge disappointment and rude response. The bridal party wanted to spend their last evening spent before marred life with family eating good food in nice surroundings in one of their favourite local restaurants/bars, but what a disappointment that turned out to be.More

The service was slow with no attention to detail. Our food was served after two other tables that arrived and ordered 20 minutes after we had sat and ordered. Then we were asked what we ordered. My burger was well overcooked and the husband's beef...pie had claggie pastry, not flaky or inviting. The gravy was over salted. We would not return.More

Fabulous spot. We sat inside as it was a bit cooler but outside on a nice day would be lovely too. The menu has something for everything, we all had the panko breadcrumbed haddock, home made chips, homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas.....gorgeous, fresh and...beautifully cooked. The staff are delightful, helpful and smiling! Beautiful traditional setting. After lunch my guests, from Australia, went across to the Craigellachie Bridge. Simon is a Pipe Major, so he piped us across and back. Perfect end to a lovely lunch.More

This is a really cosy pub/restaurant and is very welcoming. Good menu, reasonably priced and all food was well presented and tasted delicious. While there the staff gave us a tour of the Quaich bar which is great to see. It currently has over 800...bottles of whisky on display. Definitely worth booking this restaurant beforehand.More

Popped in for lunch today, our first visit having driven past many times. The restaurant had a lovely cosy feel to it and the initial welcome by the staff was warm. Our meals were really nice, piping hot and very generous in size. Attentive service...throughout the meal, and we felt well looked after. The bill had the service charge included and we thought the price was good value for a lovely meal.More

Yes dogs are welcome here. I’m sure it divides opinion though as others might not be comfortable with it.
