Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Butchers Arms has been a popular village pub for many years with customers travelling miles to sample Pat and Terry's hospitality. It is currently temporarily closed whilst the new tenants complete a refurbishment inside and out. They plan to open by mid October and earlier if at all possible. On offer will be a selection of real ales and food for which the pub has become well known. Social activities are planned and more information will be available in due course through their social media outlets. Needed - socially distanced customers once it re-opens!

A countryside treasure, with helpful friendly staff, a good selection of drinks, and a menu spread over several blackboards covering the walls of the bar area. We had the Ham, Double Egg and Chips, and though simple, it was the finest lunch you could imagine. Even though there was a large party in the back room, service was not at all delayed. Portions were heroic - I was struggling, and my wife had to ask for a doggybag, as she could not get through the mountain of ham. Top quality nosh in unprepossessing surroundings - you can't ask for more.

A 50th birthday Sundy roast the food was absolutely amazing I had roast beef it was superb followed by a strawberry sundae which was equally as good. The staff were very friendly and service excellent. The owner and chef came and brought the birthday boy a bottle of fizz which was a very nice gesture. Highly recommend The Butchers Arms. We will be returning very soon.

After a long walk we arrived at our booking and Despite calling ahead letting the restaurant know we were going to be late, the kitchen was inexplicably closed early so we had nothing to eat. And the staff were brusque and cold with us. We were stranded in the pub with no food being served to us despite tables nearby being served. It was the most unfriendly and negative restaurant experience I have ever had.

Not been here before, but both were hungry & we spotted a welcoming looking pub, so thought we would try it. Very friendly staff. Most of September lunchtime meal was around fish, nether of us like so we ordered a burger & pea resoto with Parmesan cheese biscuits. Neither of us were disappointed, we would come here again.

What a gem. This place is amazing. All the food is 100% home made, from fresh ingredients and absolutely delicious. Our party had scampi, chilli, lasagne and ham, egg and chips. Starve yourself beforehand as the portions are enormous and you won’t go hungry. The chips were to die for and my chilli was yummy with a pleasant kick. It came with nachos and a big pile of rice too. I just wish I’d had room for dessert. The beer is well kept too. A lovely, friendly atmosphere with great staff. I will be coming back with my family. What more could you want? There’s outdoor seating overlooking the village green. A cracking, traditional village pub. Thank you to the chef and the staff for a lovely evening.

Visited the pub last month for an evening meal. We had always had excellent food and knew the pub was under new management so decided to give it a try. What a disappointment , the steak pie was the worst ever and the beef consisted of wafer thin slices cut into strips and what I can only describe as brown water. Another member of the party had vegetable lasagne and the portion resembled a pancake and had no depth to it . That aside the deserts were a lot better and value for money. Needless to say we wont be returning and were greatly disappointed.

Overpriced and average Sunday roast at best. The roast potatoes and veg were solid and the meat dry and tough, nice token effort with the one tiny Aunt Bessy Yorkshire . Tried deserts to see if they were any better but was slightly disappointed when the advertised sticky toffee pudding was actually syrup sponge and they tried to spruce up jam roll poly with what can only be described as raspberry ice cream sauce 🙄. Don’t get me wrong the food was edible but definitely not worth the price.

We were staying at Glebe camp site for the weekend and were recommended The Butchers Arms a lovely local pub which we really enjoyed. Lorraine was very friendly and welcoming and the pub was very clean and warm. They served great food classics such as scampi, steaks & burgers etc which were great with big portions and great value. Overall very it was a great night with a nice atmosphere and would definitely recommend and go back to.

We were staying at the campsite about 1 mile away so took a stroll here mid afternoon for a couple of pints having first checked that they would be open (supposedly from 4.00). Disappointed therefore to arrive and for there to be no sign of life at all. There was another couple also there who were hoping to get in but at least they hadn't walked. We had tried earlier to call the number on their web site but it was unobtainable which should have maybe set alarm bells ringing. The pub looks nice but with a bit of a run down air to it. Shame.

We visited today for Sunday roast with family. We have eaten here a number of times on a Sunday but today the food was particularly good. The roast beef was delicious and came with a big fluffy yorkshire pudding and good selection of vegetables. We were looked after very well from the moment that we arrived. I'm sure it won't be long before we are back again.

According to their website and google, the pub is open on Sundays from 12 noon. So I walked approx. 7 miles to this pub on Sunday 26th Feb arriving at 2.15pm only to find the pub locked shut. Someone cleaning the gents loo asked if I was alright and told me the pub wasn't opening until 2.45pm for the rugby, and then darted into the pub locking the door behind him, leaving me sitting outside in the cold until my husband could pick me up. Butchers Arms- if you are going to change your opening hours, please at least update your website!

A table was booked online for 1pm on a Tuesday with no problem. On arrival, the whole place was shut. I see from other reviews that this is not an uncommon occurrence. Very, very disappointing and very unprofessional. We had to then hunt around for an alternative place to eat. If you are going to be closed on a Tuesday then please update your opening hours and DON’T accept bookings. Needless to say we won’t be visiting again.

20 people for a birthday party at The Butchers Arms. Rory and Lorraine were on their own servicing not only this but also the pub in general. What can I say but that they were absolutely wonderful They worked their socks off to make it a truly fabulous evening with great food, a friendly welcoming atmosphere and making it a truly memorable occasion! They deserve every success and we will all be going again. I would unreservedly recommend anyone to visit and enjoy this quintessential country pub. Thank you so very much Rory and Lorraine, you’re real stars!!

Great pub lunch. The food is as good as the website!! Really was one of the best Sunday roasts I've ever been served. It would be advisable to book ahead as it was very busy the day I attended and not everyone dropping in could be catered for. 5 Star*****
