Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely family meal to kick off the start of our holiday. We were staying near by on the Fallapit Estate and walked up for an evening meal, with our dog who was made very welcome in the bar. The pub had only recently reopened following the lockdown and the staff were so friendly and welcoming and it’s set in a really pretty spot it the village. My husband and daughter both had the scampi and I had the veg curry, all lovely. Great beer selection, and lovely stroll home down the hill. Will definitely return.

We have struggled to find places to eat this week staying at Start Bay caravan and motor home club site. Nine of the restaurants nearby are open Monday and Tuesday, the days they are open they won’t take bookings or even answer the phone. We called Fortesque pub on the off chance to get a table and luckily they were able to accommodate us. Family of 4 with two dogs. We got there within 12 minutes and was served by a polite gentleman who showed us which tables were available. They were very attentive, we got our food very quickly and efficiently, the food was delicious, the price was very good and the pub style was charming. Nice ambience with country music in the background too. They even gave treats to our dogs at the end. Overall very happy with this pub. 10/10.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch today. Plenty of choice, portions were very good, presentation was 'spot on', 5 very empty plates. The child meal was only slightly smaller than the adult meal. Lovely dining area. Would definitely recommend.

Had an excellent meal as always. The food was cooked to perfection and it was very tasty. This is our third visit to the pub and will definitely return on our next visit to south Devon. We would highly recommend. Well done to all staff as they kept strictly to covid rules, we felt very safe there.

We visited for Sunday lunch today and sat outside under the gazebo as a family of 4 adults, 2 children and 5 month old puppy. Between us we had the beef and the chicken and our meals were utterly wonderful. Yorkshire puddings even sent for the chicken dinners even though they aren’t listed in the menu description, a welcome and kind touch! Hospitable staff, wonderful service and a lovely setting. Finished off with Raspberry Pavlova (not to be missed!), chocolate fudge cake and Baileys cheesecake. Parking is limited but I think that comes with the territory for such quaint surroundings! This place is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. A lovely family afternoon.

Great spot off the beaten track. We visit annually and stay nearby, so always make an evening to pop in for dinner at this friendly pub. My partner had steak and ale pie, I had chicken pie and M-I-L had fish & chips. Generous portions, fresh, tasty - ‘wholesome, good, British pub grub’ best describes this warm, welcoming spot.

Having read all the reviews we decided to eat here to celebrate hubbys birthday - and we weren't disappointed. We were a party of 7 with 2 little ones who are fussy eaters but there was plenty of choice for everyone. Garlic mushrooms were excellent and beautifully presented. Soup was creamy and piping hot. Lasagne with a colourful salad and garlic bread was one of the best I've ever eaten and believe me I've eaten plenty. The only down side was there was no room left for pud. We were all so full. Wonderful food, hot, beautifully presented at reasonable prices. What more can one ask for?

This very pretty country pub serves the best pub grub at the best price near Kingsbridge. The food is freshly cooked and nicely presented with a menu to suit most tastes. The landlord is very friendly and helpful and made us feel valued as a customer. The pub is dog friendly. A must visit whether you are a local or on holiday. Highly recommended.

Family group of 12 (plus baby) had Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago and it was fabulous. We can be a fussy lot when it comes to food but between us we had just about everything on the menu and we all agreed we couldn't fault it. Portions that arrived on the plate were very generous, tasty and with properly cooked meats and were supplemented by dishes of extra veg including broccoli & cauliflower cheese. The Vegetarian dishes were also worthy of high praise as were the puddings which we just had to try even though we were about to burst! On top of that service was friendly and very prompt even though we didn't pre-order our meals and to round it off we thought it was excellent value for money. Would highly recommend a visit here.

We visited this charming village pub having read on Devon live that their Sunday Lunch was very good (second in Devon apparently). We weren’t disappointed!! Everything was first class! The welcome from Ian and Adrian was warm and friendly, the ambiance was just right and the food was sublime! Massive Yorkshire pud, perfect roasties, beef cooked perfectly for our taste, delicious gravy and home made celery and lemon stuffing went beautifully with the roast chicken. All in all a really nice place to enjoy a Sunday roast and I’d say this place is second to none!!

On arriving in the bar we were greeted with a smile and made to feel welcome. Each of us chose a different pie with the portions being a good size. Dogs are welcome in the bar. We would certainly pop back in when we are next in the area.

The staff and owners are top class, the pub itself is a great country pub that offers really good food at reasonable prices. Just an all round nice place to eat and drink. My steak and ale pudding and mash was first class.

Had dinner here with my partner. It’s a real locals pub but with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The steak and kidney pudding and lamb shank were both really tasty and very reasonable in price. We will definitely be coming back here and will recommend to friends if they’re in the area.
