Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and myself lived in Senegal during the mid/late 80s and we are currently paying our first return visit.
Earlier today we visited the Island of Fadiouth (built on seashells and the nearby ‘shell’ cemetery where both Christians and Muslims both lie at rest) which is almost as famous as the Isle de Goree (see previous Review). On our return, we had lunch at La Taverne du Pecheur which is right next to the Bridge with lovely river views.
Both the food and service were good - perhaps helped by the fact that our driver was a good friend of the owner! Either way, certainly a restaurant I would recommend to other tourists visiting the area.

We ate at this restaurant before walking the bridge to the shell island. This restaurant is used by the tour companies and a whole bus load of French speaking guests arrived just before we left.
The location of the restaurant is pleasant as it is just beside the walkway to shell island. The food and the service are ok.

Pretty average food, seems to cater mostly to groups visiting Joal Fadiouth, who all choose the set menu. Most of the things we wanted to eat weren't available or were sold out (including the nations's most popular Gazelle beer). Service was slow and indifferent.

One of the very few places to eat in the area. It can get touristy but when I was there it was rather empty. Food and service were very good though. I came there twice, first time I forgot a small personal item even without me noticing it. On my next visit the waitress recognise me and gave me the item back.
Food is good, fresh and affordable. Views are great.

The restaurant itself is really lovely, especially the terrace with an amazing view. You can relax on a deckchair and enjoy a tranquil atmoshere. But we were deeply disappointed with the food. We ordered brochette lotte (monkfish) and rice. What we got was pliable wet chips and dried out fish. Moreover, the waitress was rather unfriendly and reserved. We had been in many even cheaper restos earlier and that was by far the worst.

La Taverne du Pencheur was a very nice cozy place to eat after my tour of the island. I enjoyed the peace and quietness while seated along the shoreline. The décor was marvelous for the setting and the restaurant had stories posted along the walls of many leaders that had visited. The food was priced reasonable and the service was just ok.

Terrace on the water's edge with a nice view across to the island of Fadiouth . We asked the waitress if the oysters were fresh .. she walked a few yards down to the shore and picked them up .. fresh but warm Senegalese oysters ( well , the temperature was around 30 degrees ) . Restaurant was deserted , low season in this part of the world .
The obvious place to have lunch here but don't expect anything special !

Of course you won't make a trip just to eat here. But if you're visiting Joual-Fadiouth, this is an excellent choice. On the beach, but shaded by trees and roofs. Very quiet, very exotic, very Senegal. The food is exactly what you get in any other similar Senegalese restaurant. The same fish dishes with the same rice, the same chicken yassa, etc. But it's well made, it's cheap, and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Exactly what you need after walking around for an hour on an island made of seashells. :-)

Just before the new bridge from Joal to Fadiouth. Plain good fish (we ate one they call "thiof" for 3800 CFA each) in a shady and clean open air terrace. Cold beers and very good "frites". Fair tourist prices.

The establishment offers a comfortable atmosphere and a picturesque view of the bridges of Fadiouth, inviting you to relax while enjoying the serenity of the place. The decor is beautiful, complete with local stories displayed on the walls, adding a touch of authenticity to the experience.
The menu highlights seafood dishes, featuring excellent mangrove oysters at a very attractive price (1000 FCFA per dozen), as well as a variety of fresh fish. Guests can start with mangrove oysters accompanied by a glass of white wine, then treat themselves to main dishes such as grilled fish, skewers, or a delicious monkfish blanquette. For meat lovers, options such as zebu steaks with mustard sauce, chicken, and even pork are available.
And to top it all off, the prices are very affordable: only 35,000 FCFA for a meal for four people, including two plates of oysters as a starter, a salad, ocean skewers, beef skewers, monkfish blanquette and chicken.

After visiting the shell island, we had a cold drink in this restaurant under the trees
The welcome is pleasant and smiling.
The toilets are very clean.
