Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our son lives in Stillington and goes to this pub quite often. When we visit we also go but sadly we are too far away to go as often as we would like. We went for lunch with all our family and it was great...as usual. It is the best food at a pub we have ever had. It's exceptional and nothing is too much trouble. Our youngest grandchild has an egg allergy and everything he wanted was checked out to see if it was suitable.i would highly recomment this pub and wish we could visit more often.More

Just wonderful! We are a family of 9 that visited for a pre-Christmas celebration. The food was incredible for all of us. We ate the Christmas dinner, gammon, pies, steak, chicken and Brie, kids meals. Everything was lovely with an abundance of homemade chips and...veg. Thank you for being so accommodating with us all. My grumpy old dad was very impressed! We all had a rare and lovely time together.More

We were recommended to The White Bear, which was in the next Village to where we’re staying. A want welcome, staff lovely and we hadn’t booked. The menu choice is great for both adults and children. My daughter had the roast dinner and she told...me it was amazing. We had haddock & chips, really delicious. Great pub, lovely atmosphere and the staff are welcoming. Would definitely recommend a visit.More

Food was OK but be prepared for being treated like a small petulant brat by Lady Muck. The owner, Sue, absolutely ruined what should have been a lovely night. I asked for the menu for deserts but " She thought I was being too forward"....Her response to my grievance was ever worse. I'll never step foot in there again. Rudest old bat I've ever given money to.More

We stopped here once again when returning to the North East from holiday. The food was excellent - plenty of choice and all delicious. The staff were welcoming and friendly and although the restaurant was busy they couldnt have been more sympathetic and helpful when...my sons full pint of beer was spilt all over the table -the best service ever.More

Found this little gem of a family run pub while we were away for the weekend and what a fab experience. Staff and locals were very friendly which is a great start. Food was excellent, went for dinner on the Friday and it was so...good we went back for Sunday lunch. Both menus offered superb choice and were excellent value for money. Great portion sizes and home made desserts. There’s even holiday cottages behind the pub which I found people came back to visit time and again. Tara was our excellent server and it’s her family that run the pub, restaurant and accommodation as a family business. A great independent village based experience, don’t miss out.More

We met friends who were staying in one one The White Bear Cottages (they are fab, and well equipped). The 4 of us had a meal & drinks in the Bar, it was very busy with a good atmosphere, we were given a very warm...welcome, served drinks & shown to a table. The menu isn’t extensive but has lots of home cooked favourites, everything each of us ordered from starter, main & desert were served piping hot & we all commented on how delicious the food was. We will definitely be back.More

A lovely welcome started the evening off well and only good things followed. The staff are friendly and helpful, food is excellent from starters through to desserts. Nothing was too much trouble even to the point of making some more custard for my sister although...service had finished. It was the best evening meal of our 4 day visit to the area, look forward to returning on our next trip. Thank you so much 😊More
