We've eaten here a few times. There aren't many vegetarian starters, but my carnivorous family love the spare ribs to start. The vegey spring rolls are only OK, not much flavour. There aren't many vegetarian main meals on the menu, but the vegetarian chow mein is pretty good. It's piled high with veges on top of crispy noodles that soften... More

Have had a few take aways as the food is quite nice but after thinking we were just unlucky in what we chose and having tried different things can now see that portions of EVERYTHING are small. 4 tiny pancakes with half a crispy duck? Tiny rice portions. Yet the prices are on the larger side... Shame really as it... More

All staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble, a credit to the village! Food is delicious, portions are an okay size

Despite first impressions (looks like a takeaway only, from outside) we had a great meal at the Heylam last night. Wine was excellent and very reasonably priced unlike other Chinese restaurants in Sale, the mixed starter was good but the main courses were superb! The service was great and although it wasn't very busy when we first arrived, given that... More

Have tried a few dishes from this menu including curry which I normally love from Chinese. This one was bland and tasteless. Have always been told 25 mins to wait for my order but have always waited 50 minutes (even for 1 basic dish like chow mein) The crafty buggers do this so you go in to wait and they... More

My girlfriend and I have very different diets. I'm vegetarian and my girlfriend usually eats meat. Hey Lam is a place we agree upon. Without fail the food and service are excellent. I strongly recommend the vegetable chow mein - absolutely gorgeous. The staff are helpful and very friendly. On birthdays the staff will bring out ice cream with candles... More

I am Chinese and as a result I am particularly picky about Chinese food. I have tried most of the Chinese resturants in Sale and Heylam is the only one that is close to the standard of cooking in Hong Kong. Their dim sum starters (prawn dumplings and pork dumplings) are the real deal. Crispy wonton and spring rolls are... More

Whilst the Hey Lam lacks any real restaurant atmosphere as the Carry Out customers, which are the main source of income troop in and out, the quality and variety of the food is very good indeed. Just a pity the take out trade is not screened off as I would anticipate the restaurant would be packed most nights. We've been... More

We regularly visit the Hey Lam every couple of months or get a take-away.. Linda , Colin & Ming run one of the best restaurants in the area. The authentic Chinese cuisine is always faultless and so tasty and the atmosphere is always welcoming. Try the Salt & Pepper spare ribs & agree that you have not tasted better. We... More
