Great for Celebrations in their Private Dining Room. There are cloakrooms just for your use. It’s close to the kitchens, so food is piping hot. Your own private bar. Could not fault it, we were very happy with the Service

We came here as a couple for our Sunday meal at 1.30pm. The food is of good quality and tastes amazing. We wasn't going to return as had a bad experience last year but being as its so local to us and the food is...always good we really wanted it to be a regular. The young waiters were efficient and friendly. However, after ordering our initial first drinks, we weren't asked anymore during our time there, if we wanted any other drinks or if our food was OK? The service isn't anywhere near as good as it used to be. They had a dedicated wine/drinks person that used to always check if you needed anymore and was always pouring the wine. He's no longer there, It's quite upmarket and not the cheapest so it's the things you would expect to see. We were seated in the conservatory and I'm not sure if it's the way the room is but the noise level was incredible. we couldn't hear each other and were sat next to each other. The other room near the bar & entrance seemed a lot better. It's such a shame as the menu is varied and the food cooked is wonderful and tasty. But the service and noise level has let it down for us again so we won't be returning.More

Having visited on many occasions and always been more than satisfied with the high quality of food, service etc, we decided to meet up with friends for a pre Christmas celebration. Seated in the waiting area on arrival, after 10 minutes no one had come...to take our drinks order so we had to ask. Whilst the quality of the food was, as always very good, we could not help but notice that the portion sizes had decreased since previous visits. Two members of the party had the cod cassoulet which had a very small piece of cod, literally three mouthfuls, and did not reflect the price tag of £29.50. My goats cheese starter consisted of three wafer thin slices of goats cheese and the cheese and biscuits dessert was also a meager portion for the price. All in all, on this occasion a disappointing visit.More

We have been to the Magic Mushroom restaurant many times over the years and it has never been less than very good. Often excellent. Me and my family of 4 went (in my mind at least explicitly for the Christmas menu) for lunch on the...21st December. Oh dear what a disappointment. The Christmas lunch consisted of ‘processed’ turkey slices, some very unpleasant stuffing, 3 roast potatoes and some tiny sprouts. I foolishly hadn’t checked the menu details so hadn’t noticed that the meal contained no pigs in blankets, no Yorkshire pudding, no additional vegetables. I could have paid extra for other veg but again didn’t pick up on that until too late. My wife had the sea bream which she said was good but the portion was tiny. The Christmas pudding was excellent which is a positive! The lady who served us was shall we say difficult. It seemed at one point she was spoiling for a fight when my son asked for an ice bucket for our £110 bottle of champagne which seemed a reasonable request to me. Fortunately my son didn’t rise to it but the attitude of this person did strike me as odd. Sadly we wont be hurrying back……More

Really enjoyed coming here, and everyone else did too, delicious food, they had prawn cocktail, onion tart, soups, and a lovely roast dinner, beef perfect, chicken really soft and succulent, and the desserts again lovely, ginger cheesecake, banana parfait, and apple crumble, and a chocolate...torte with whisky cream, the chef did us proud, the only things we found on just a suggestion, is maybe a tad more communication, for the staff, as our coffee was forgotten, and a drink, and just the gravy on the side, it was fine for me, but not everyone likes it. The staff very friendly, very helpful, good service, and lovely food, definitely return again. The manager friendly and on the ball, all in all, everyone ate everything nothing left, and thats always a good sign, Thanks to all the staff, they all work extremely hard, and compliments to the chef and kitchen staff, brilliant. Thank you for a lovely lunch .More

Booked a table for 11 family members to celebrate my 50th and my mum's 80th birthdays. Had lots of calls beforehand checking they knew about the birthdays and that we wouldn't be bringing a cake but would like a candle stuck in the dessert. All...was sounding so promising and I arrived early to set up the table with the balloon arrangements. The manager took our food order and when we thought she had missed someone out, she became quite angry and said that she hadn't and then carried on. The food all arrived delicious and hot and later came the desserts, sadly no candles. I asked the waitress at the end what had happened and she said the person doing the desserts didn't realise it was a birthday. Felt really sad as that would have been so lovely for mum (wasn't so worried about me). The manager didn't come out of the kitchen to apologise and just left it with the waitress to offer us a glass of champagne. We already had our coats on and had paid the bill so didn't accept the offer. All in all the venue was perfect and the food amazing. The manager just needs to learn some people skills and if you're having a party, remind them constantly throughout the night as the three phone calls beforehand and the balloons might not be enough!More

Had a meal here on a cold wet Nov evening. On arrival my partner and I were greeted warmly and shown to a lovely booth table which was very cosy. Ww ordered wine which arrived promptly and was served to us. Perfect temperature too. We...did not feel under pressure to order quickly so allowed us to enjoy the wine and chat. The starter was crab and crostinis. Very tasty and beautifully presented. The flavours were amazing and left us wanting more. We both had seabass and again presentation and flavours amazing. No dessert as no room. Lovely atmosphere and all waiting staff polite and attentive. This was a birthday treat for me from my partner and it was just perfect. We will be back. Thankyou all.More

My husband and I have been regular visitors to this restaurant over the years and never had anything to complain about, so when my husband booked for my Birthday with my family (6 adults and 2 children) we were all really looking forward to a...lovely Sunday late lunch/early dinner. Our table was booked for 4.30 and we all arrived on time and were shown to our table straight away. We all ordered pre dinner drinks whilst choosing from the Sunday menu. All of our starters were lovely, including the prawn cocktail and the soup, however unfortunately we cannot say the same for the mains.....3 x beef, which of the two slices were fatty and rather tough, the roast potatoes were very very hard and tough and very difficult to cut through, the Yorkshire puddings were burnt and really quite inedible and the gravy, already on the plate, was very thin and watery. My husband had the lamb shoulder which was extremely dry. Vegetables were served to the table and consisted of carrots, parsnips and large slices of onion and swede mash, not a green vegetable in sight. We also had a bottle of wine which we continued to pour ourselves throughout our meal.......in the 'old days' the wine was always poured for us! It was plain to see when we were 'finished' eating our meals that there was so much left on our plates as not one of us enjoyed the dinner at all and it was all very dissapointing, hence we all turned down the offer of dessert, although my grandson ordered the kids brownie and ice cream which he enjoyed! Overall our visit was really really disappointing and sorry to say we left the restaurant all saying the same.....we will not be visiting again soon!More
