Just got home from having lunch here. The food was fabulous. We had a Scotch egg (to share) as a starter. It was wonderful. The lettuce with a honey and mustard dressing was equally good so don’t be tempted to leave it. We even got the recipe for the dressing! We then had the short rib of beef. The tender stem was done to perfection, the potatoes were mashed smoothly and the beef was delicious (and there was so much we took half of it home). This was one of the best meals we have ever had. The staff were also exceptional, very helpful and could not have done more for us, thank you. We can see why this is rated the best restaurant in Billericay. If you want a real treat eat here.

As a pretty experienced reviewer of restaurants on this esteemed website, I like to praise restaurants who obviously take care with service standards, food quality and ambiance. In all these respects, the Fox&Hounds excels. We had Sunday lunch there and judging by the number of patrons, it was fortunate that we had booked. Starters were prawn cocktail and the soup of the day for me then for the main event, roast turkey with all the trimmings and (of course) beef. I can only describe the food as faultless and the service as exceptional. Well done F&H! See you next month!

Me and my family visited The Fox and Hounds today for a special family lunch. We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed lunch outside in the pub’s new canopy extension. The service and food were delightful. It was a lovely, laid-back atmosphere and the staff couldn’t do enough to help us and make sure we had everything we needed. Two of us had the smoked salmon open sandwich and my husband enjoyed the fish and chips. The homemade puddings (unusual in pubs these days!) were gorgeous too! Made for a really pleasant afternoon. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you!

Myself wife and friends visit this pub for lunch on 11/02/20 I am sorry to say I drew the short straw as I ordered the sausage and mash and onions at first I thought I'd ordered a starter then no maybe I got the kids menu or was I in slimming world but I felt offended that they could give me such a small meal. My grandson who is only 3and 6 months properly would have eaten this and asked for more 2 sausages a very small amount of mash and a teaspoon of onions on a huge plate.I did also think there must be a potato shortness like back in the day when Ireland lost all their crops.l don't think I will return.

Came here on a Wednesday evening for a meal in the restaurant. The car park seemed full but the pub was virtually empty. We waited quite a while for our order to be taken despite there only being two other tables occupied. I had liver and bacon and my partner ordered a burger. There was another long wait for the food but the waitress did apologise for the delay. My dinner arrived with a generous serving of liver, two thick rashers of bacon, a dollop of creamy mash with some braised onions on top. It could really have used a green vegetable and a bit more gravy. My partners burger was well presented, thick, well cooked and came with tasty skinny fries. Again we had a bit of a wait before being offered dessert. I went for bread and butter pudding, my partner went for sticky toffee pudding. They arrived well presented but the bread and butter pudding was very bland and the custard was more like warm cream with no vanilla at all. Overall the food was just OK, which for a night out is a little disappointing.

Can highly recommend The Fox and Hounds take away food. Food can be pre-ordered to be delivered at a set time on their easy to use website. The food arrived dead on time and was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be using again.

Had passed this pub many times whilst working in the area and often wondered how it fared. We did book a table but were late due to road works but no problem as it was not even half full. Lovely friendly and homely atmosphere which was a pleasant surprise as from outside it looks like any normal run of the mill large pub. Very friendly staff. My wife had the Peri Per chicken which she thought was delicious. Served on a platter with home made coleslaw and a piece of Ciabatta bread and the chips were also spicy I opted for the Chicken and Mushroom Linguini which was served in a delicious white sauce. Overall very tasty but a couple of pieces of chicken were a tad hard and very dry but not enough to spoil the meal. The area we sat in was very new and bright décor wise and there is a large area for sitting outside under a gazebo. The service was good but the main menu was extremely limited with two of my choices not available. I have given the food an Average marking only because "good" wasn't available so half way between Average and V.Good

We booked the fox and hounds at the last minute after one of our favourite restaurants was unavailable. We’d not been there before but were encouraged by the good reviews. Despite this, one of our friends who’s lived nearby for years said she never goes to this pub as it’s never been good, but having spoken to the manager it’s been under new management for nearly 2 years and this is no longer the case. The staff were lovely, the pub itself was very nice inside and out. The food was absolutely incredible! I had the scotch egg starter and the beef rib as they’d been recommended in the reviews I read. My wife had the steak with peppercorn sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the homemade peppercorn sauce was to die for. Cannot recommend this place enough, food was great and the staff were really friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. We’ve lived in Billericay for 5 years and never knew about this place, it’s now our new favourite and can’t wait to come back to try more delicious food! Thank you!

Busy Sunday afternoon, Sunday lunch all booked out, Rugby on the TV, lots of people watching the England game. In spite of all of this, they could still find space for me to have a lovely Beef Roast. Atmosphere is what makes this place, always friendly and lively. The food is great and the service very attentive. Highly recommend visiting, it’s just a very relaxed way to spend an afternoon.

Really lovely atmosphere and very welcoming accommodation. Our hosts and staff took great care with our food, seating and table arrangements, and general service. It is a really warm and friendly place to be on a cold night. There is plenty of room to move, well laid out, clean toilets and easy parking. Food: Not an overly stretched menu, which is good because what they do, they do very well and obviously with great care and pride there was something for everyone. The menu offered a nice selection. An interesting selection of starters. Two of us had the pate... very tasty. Mains: Take care of the fresh battered fish... it was quite large and was actually not much more expensive than a local takeaway, which is interesting in itself. Homemade pies were beautifully presented, and both the steak and chicken types were packed full of meat. In all, a very nice place for a couples or, in our case, a family meal. Thank you very much for a nice evening... ad we drove away, we all agreed that we shall be back.

Wow, what an amazing pub! We were booked in for a Sunday roast for my birthday and I have never been made to feel so special by a restaurant! Staff went above and beyond, constantly making sure we all had drinks and encouraged the whole pub to sing happy birthday to me when they brought the cake out. Food was unreal, my family said it was one of the best roasts they had and my vegetarian option was delicious too. I had the best day, I can’t thank the team enough and we will definitely definitely be back soon!

Went to the Fox and Hounds on Sunday, we met friends there and had a nice table outside on the terrace. We have been here quite a few times and as usual the atmosphere here was absolutely superb, attentive staff but nice and laid back. Due to Corona they don’t have a full menu but have replaced it with what I can only describe as the best pizza’s I have ever had. Sarah, the landlady, has put pizza ovens in and the homemade pizzas are unbelievable!! Huge choice while you’re having a nice afternoon in the garden or marquee if the weather isn’t perfect. Beer and 🍕 😍

You'll get a genuinely warm welcome at the Fox and Hounds from owners Sarah and Mark along with the staff who are also doing a great job. The food we had was exceptional. We all had the roast turkey Christmas lunch which was beautifully cooked and delicious to eat, served piping hot and on hot plates. Our puddings were a gorgeous Chrismas pud, a cheesecake and a prosecco jelly with a raspberry sorbet. It was great value for money and I thoroughly recommend.

We had read that it was in the top three gastro pubs in Essex and the review was spot on. The owner Mark gave us a warm welcome into the small dining area and the meal was very professionally served by a young team and all the food was excellent. Although 40 mins from our home, we are heading back there tonight, after our first visit last weekend.
