The views are awesome, the sun was shinning, it was 12.45 and time for a lunch looking out over the harbour. We assumed the food would match the location. Sadly it didn't. The main dish was sold out. We'll that's OK, the fish dish of the day was what we came for anyway. Unfortunately the bread was also finished. No apology, just the statement, its finished. Oh well breads not so good for you anyway, we waited for our fish dish of the day. It came after about 25 mins, looking good and reasonably generious. However, it was a few fish bits and prawns over several potatoes and lots of sauce. Not generous at all...excet with potatoes! But the disappointments just kept coming, it was lukevwarm, some of the fish was not even that, added frozen I wondered. No one asked if we were enjoying our meal, so I give the answer here.

Located in a lovely place in Hjo's harbour, I have been in this restaurant several times for lunch and dinner and I was never disappointed. A friendly staff, great meals (especially the fish) and a fantastic view to the sea: I give 5 stars to this restaurant.

We had the most super meal, the fish was exceptional and the chocolate mousse was to die for. The staff immediately spoke fluent English when they realised our Swedish was limited. We’ve been for both dinner and drinks and it was a delight both times. It’s card only too, so you can take your small handbag!

Of course you would prefere to have your Sunday lunch outside. Sadly the Swedish summer feels like autumn this year. Bryggan offers an excellent solution, as you can sit behind glass walls with a full view of the pier and the lake Vänern (or is it Vättern) and almost feel that you are sitting outside. The menu had very few selections - at least for lunch. The dinner menu had a vegetarian option, but in stead of insisting that they provided it for lunch I had the Rödding. The fish was good, the potatoes was just plain boiled with the skin on, but their freshness made them tasty. And the sauce: Of course you can use your fingers to scoop it all up! Remember, no waste is good for the environnent, being a snob is not. And the Chardonnay they recommended with the rödding was a dream :-) Now, there are some complaints: Where are the sallad? I found it when I turned the fish over. When the vegatables are hidden by the fish it's to few vegetables! A minimum requirement is that you should be able to hide the fish under the vegetables! Due to the shortage of sallad I was still hungry when I left the place. And as a consequence of this I find the food far to expencive. Still, if you are having lunch (or dinner) in Hjo on a cold summer day and haven't brought blankets and a picnik basket, Bryggan is the place to go: You want to enjoy the view :-)

We were visiting Hjo in early June, with our American friends. So far up to that point we had only great experiences with all venues we dined at. When we arrived at this location, we were greeted outside by a very enthusiastic chef/boss of the restaurant who encouraged us to come in. When we came inside a young waitress was assigned to us and she led us to a table with a decent lake view. Her manner however was rude and condescending, and she did not want to be there it seemed. We made our orders quickly, approximately ONE HOUR AND 40 MINUTES LATER our cold, dry food arrived on the table. My wife's salad had a long hair in it. The waitress was hostile and abrupt with us when we politely asked if she could bring more wine. We also understood it was a busy time and did not in any way behave rude or hostile, although we should have. We did not eat our meal and left the venue. Will never ever eat here again. Shame on you for charging high prices for well below standard food. A trip to MacDonalds would be more satisfying and that is really telling you something. AVOID.

Very nice staff. In January to midfebruary you can choose two courses for sek 200. Yoy eat sitting next to or nearly on Lake Vätter and the bridge of Hjo. In the summertime there is an outdoor bath next to the restaurant.

The fish I took was slightly overcooked and the hollandaise sauce was probably not done at the restaurant.

Food is expensive everywhere in Sweden but here for a comparable price with other locations, you have less in your plate (opinion based on two visits) Now, it is very good food and also very important a very nice view on the marina, with the sunset making it absolutely beautiful

Hjo is a pretty small former spa town on the lake. This restaurant was busy and the service was slow. There is a fairly small menu, but for Sweden prices are reasonable. Wine by the glass is not terribly good, thin Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, etc. I opted for love beef, something I often order in a Sweden. It came with a salad and chips with parsley butter. The others ordered the same or pork in a cream sauce with potatoes. My beef was cold - so cold that the parsley butter did not melt. My son said his new potatoes were overcooked, having been twice cooked, but said his pork was 'ok' but not special. We felt the meal was 'all right' but not special and that the restaurant deserved 31/2 out of 5. I do not think we will hurry back. A pity as the location is nice.

At 11.45 a man entered the restaurant. Then we went in after him. We sat down to wait for a table. We stood for several minutes. A man was sitting in an armchair reading the newspaper in peace. Finally, he roughly says that the restaurant is closed. That it opens at 12.00. We quickly left and never went back. If you don't want guests before opening, you can keep the door locked!
