We visited with our friends on a sunny Friday evening. The location was fantastic and the whole experience was brilliant. The food was excellent - between the four of us we had lobster, the seafood platter and goats cheese. The service was top notch and the owner (Julian) even came over at the end to show the giant crab they had caught earlier in the day! Would recommend if you are visiting this fantastic part of the world.

Stopped off here after a day walking around Handa island and decided to have an early supper. Its a lovely quirky looking restaurant with a fishing theme. There are several tables inside and a balcony area with additional seating. We went to the counter , and the waiter had interesting customer service skills. To the person in front he said " Do you just want drink or something to eat , because if you only want a drink you can only have the table for 30 minutes as we are a small restaurant" ( even though it was empty). We ordered a meal and drinks which we wanted to have outside to which he said" Are you sure you want to eat outside? If it rains you can't then have a table inside" As it was we decided to sit inside and we had drinks served quickly. It did fill up quickly as the ferry comes back, and then another couple came in and asked if they could have a meal , to which he said we are full ( even though there were tables outside) but you can come back at 4.30 . They said ok but could we have a coffee , to which he said no ( even though the two sofas were empty) unsuprizingly they didn't come back. We got the feeling he didn't want anyone outside as it was more areas to clear up.Our meals arrived quickly and were a lovely seafood platter and a pickled herring salad , the platter was beautifully presented and came with a salad ,hot potatoes and bread. As we said we were going to share both meals the waiter brought extra plates . It was lovely and fresh ( langustines and crabs caught by the owners ) and tasted great . The platter is £35 but was worth it . The waiter seemed to cheer up later, asking if our meals were ok and chatting about the business and the owners when we went to pay. Its a lovely place to eat after a Handa trip but recommend getting off the ferry quick to grab a table or phone up and reserve

We enjoyed delicious mackerel and salmon dishes at this lovely restaurant, perched by the bay looking out onto the Sound of Handa. Great, fresh food with stunning views. Well worth the short, wiggly drive down. What a gem!

We decided to go and visit this seafood restaurant again after several years. We remembered amazing Langoustine cocktails. There was no langoustine cocktail on the menu and the prices were extortionate. We ordered smoked mackerel which came with so much salad on it, it was ridiculous. When we arrived we were asked if we were eating or just having a drink as they needed the table in 45 mins. Another couple came in after us and we’re asked the same question. Obviously they were expecting a large group of people off the day trip boat as there were only two people in the cafe when we were there. Sorry will not be going back , such a shame as it has become a money making machine.

Not the easiest place to get to, but worth it. Modest menu, majority being fish or shell fish based. We shared a sea platter of local prawns, (which needed a couple of minutes with a nut cracker to open,) crab, smoked mackerel and salmon, in a salad with buttered potatoes and an apple and walnut dressing.
Lovely but somewhat expensive.
It seems advisable to book. We arrived 3:00 ish, not booked, and it was tricky finding a table.

We read the wonderful reviews of this special place and as we were spending the day on spectacular Handa Island it seemed the perfect place for a late lunch as it opens at midday and last orders early evening. These hours no doubt fit in with first and last returns of Handa Island visitors. The single track road off NC500 north of Scourie is quite challenging with blind spots but it is tarmac with passing lanes
We were fortunate to get a booking as you can only reserve within 48 hrs and there are only five tables. There were many turned away disappointed while we were there
There is only William, busy patient and polite, running the service and the chef in the kitchen. The 'happy eater' reviewer did not have a booking but does not seem to understand that the hospitality industry has been hard hit with staff shortages covid and Brexit and in order to provide excellent timely service they cannot overwhelm the kitchen and want to ensure those wise enough to make a booking will be served efficiently and timely. This has become the rule rather than exception across the highlands in addition to reduced days and times opened
Adam who works in conjunction with two member staff catches the local shellfish and seafood so that it is a sea to table scenario
We had freshly made courgette soup followed by the most exquisite piece of fresh mouth watering perfectly cooked salmon fillet.
The plum tart capped off a very special meal in yet another magical Highland setting with a beautiful vista across to Handa Island

Exceptional! We cannot fault this restaurant at all.
As others have mentioned, this is a small restaurant with limited seating and in an area where restaurants are few and far between. We called and booked in advance and has no trouble at all, we even arrived for our reservation early and we’re seated quickly.
The food menu is small but has a fantastic choice. Starters, mains and desserts are all reasonably priced. We opted for a seafood platter which was incredible and a goats cheese & mushroom salad. Both were excellent.
Staff were lovey and we felt really at home. Plus the added bonus of stunning views.
Truly a wonderful place and we couldn’t recommend it enough - just book ahead!

We were recommended to this restaurant by the owner of the BnB we stayed at. We rang up the day before and managed to secure a booking for lunch.
Due to covid restrictions there are only about 5 tables inside where you can eat and to be fair to them they allow you a full 90 minutes to eat.
Everything is caught that day so as fresh as you can get and then prepared on site in the adjoining kitchen. Nothing is mass produced here so you may have to wait a while for your food but its definitely worth waiting for.
We had the dressed crab salad and salmon fillet with salad and new potatoes followed up by chocolate cake and apple and blackberry crumble.
The bill was slightly above what we would normally pay for lunch.
The waiter was very friendly and was managing to stay calm despite many people showing up without bookings and having to be turned away, the phone ringing at regular intervals with people making bookings and the card reader playing up!

While touring along the NC500 I read this was a place to stop and eat lunch. I was not disappointed. Located beside the pier where the ferry boats to Handa island bird sanctuary ply their trade, it has a beautiful terrace where the view down the Loch to the island is magnificent on a sunny day. The road to get here is also a delight.
But the food. I went for the fish platter, all fresh, or freshly smoked and just as good as the web image. I had Meg, my faithful 18-year-old Collie with me and she also enjoyed the freedom to wander around the terrace and the bowl of fresh water thoughtfully provided by the owners. I really hope I can find a way to come back and enjoy this fine dining experience again.

Tip : If you are making a trip here just for the restaurant, definitely book ahead as the restaurant is small.
Situated next to the Handa island ferry , this is a great option before or after your trip to the island. Menu is full of local seafood, with an excellent seafood platter or potted shrimps on roast.
Sandwiches, soup and cakes are also available if you want something lighter.
Food was very good, service was warm and friendly and despite being busy the food came out quickly.
Well worth a visit.

The freshest of seafood, caught in the bay where the restaurant is situated. We had the perfect evening weather wise so after dinner sat on the headland and watched the wildlife.
The food was amazing beautifully cooked and prepared would thoroughly recommend.

We enjoyed our food so much the first time that we went back again two nights later.
The langoustines are wonderful and caught that morning just a few miles out to sea from the restaurant. We also tried the smoked salmon which was also lovely and the puddings are a generous sized portion.
The Shorehouse is situated right on a sea loch and the setting couldn’t be more beautiful. There are only a few tables and booking is essential.

Huge hype for this venue and signs on side of road so thought we would turn up today for some food and a drink.
Tables free and unfortunately we were told that they were booked but that was in 35 minutes time. So could the host fit us in for anything NO!
In these days of Covid lock down and needing customers I would have thought any quick sale of any item would have been appropriate. Anyway glad we did not spend any time there as it looked like those who were at tables were waiting a long time for their food. I hope they were not disappointed. As we were.
Not going to return again in a hurry!
This place could be a gold mine but the way we were treated it seems like it does not deserve a chance.

I only write this because I am so disappointed as I was looking forward to local seafood. I ordered langoustines takeaway (£18). First they got the order wrong and second there was still ice on the langoustines, they were not fully defrosted. So my luncheon became dinner.

We had a delicious lunch at the Shorehouse. The seafood was so fresh and absolutely delicious. We even had room for desserts and the eton mess cheesecakes and homemade pies went down a treat. The setting of the restaurant is idyllic and the staff so friendly. It does get very busy, with people having to be turned away as they hadn't booked tables so I would definitely recommend booking ahead. Such a gem that we found on the NC500 and would highly recommend to anyone else in the area!
