We enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast in the midst of beautiful gardens. The birds and other wildlife flourish among the gorgeous landscaping. The food was excellent, was plentiful, and very reasonably priced. The service was very good. I ordered the spinach omelette and my husband had the corn beef hash with eggs which I sampled. Both were delicious and served with... More

We are so glad that you enjoyed your breakfast at our restaurant. We get the spinach fresh each week from a farmer's market, and we make the corned beef from scratch by brining and then cooking it. We are known for our corned beef, both in the hash and the Reuben. Come back for lunch sometime and sample the Reuben,... More

Just returned from Thanksgiving dinner. Outstanding! Fabulous! Everything was incredibly delicious and prepared to perfection. Possibly the best dressing ever. The turkey was moist and tasty. Veggies and potatoes done to a turn. Pumpkin pie scrumptious.. Accolades to Monika and her help. Some good cookin'. Yum!

Thanks so much for your nice review. We work very hard to made each dinner special. And we were glad to have the dinner when a hurricane was passing to the north. It gave people a diversion in the rain. The dressing is made from locally grown macadamia nuts. And the turkey was cooked slowly to get the moistness that... More

If you're looking for some delicious breakfast with a quaint and quiet view, this is the place for you. The people are friendly, and the food is even better. My fiancé had the corn beef and hash and I the French toast. We couldn't have been more pleased with our choices. It was all spectacular.

We are glad you stopped by to have breakfast. We are known for our breakfasts, and we make the corned beef from scratch. It is a process that takes a week or two, but once it is done, the results seem to be very popular. And we once had a comment about the French Toast from a woman who said... More

Thank you for coming and thanks for your nice review. Our breakfasts are also well known in the area. Monika makes the corned beef from scratch, so when she is doing it for the Reuben, she also has corned beef for the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs. That is also very popular. Come back and see us and try some... More

We escaped a heavy downpour by stopping here for lunch. We had a lovely filling meal. I had a delicious pineapple/chicken dish and my boyfriend had the Reuben which he enjoyed. Nice casual vibe where we could bird-watch out the window. In nicer weather, I'm sure sitting outside would be amazing! Thankfully, we spoke to the owner before we left... More

Glad we could help during one of our downpours. Sometimes it is just better to stop and relax than to keep trying to fight through it. Our Chicken Tropicale with the spicy mango sauce is one of the favorites. But the Reuben and Corned Beef hash made from scratch by Monika are dishes that people who know the Caballo Negro... More

We went for breakfast and will definitely be back! We ate on their back patio overlooking a great view of a small lake and the Lucky Bug Bed and Breakfast and enjoyed the birds and wildlife. The owner chatted with my husband while I shopped in the the Lucky Bug Gallery while our breakfast was prepared. Our meal was delicious!!!

We stopped in for a wonderful and surprising lunch. The B&B has a restaurant that sits on a private little lake with gorgeous views. I ordered the French toast for lunch and it was incredible. My friend ordered the corned beef hash, and the hash is honemade! Such a great and unexpected stop on the way to see Volcan Arenal!

We are glad you stopped to visit us and sample a couple of the items on the menu. Once a woman said that she would never be able to eat French Toast again because ours was so good. And, yes, the corned beef hash is homemade. You can't get good corned beef here in Costa Rica, so we make our... More

We travel to Costa Rica twice every year and one of the activities high on our to do list each time is to stop by Caballo Negro for a Reuben sandwich. I think this restaurant is better known as the Lucky Bug. Monika, the owner and chef, was super nice. I had the Curry chicken salad and it was very good. Description
Our restaurant is a favorite for locals and travelers alike. We have great breakfasts, which include Huevos Rancheros, and homemade Corned Beef Hash with corned beef made from scratch by the owner and chef, Monika.
Because of Monika's German heritage, she also makes delicious schintzels also, from a family recipe.
And if you save room for dessert, Apple Strudel is usually always available.
There is inside seating and also patio seating overlooking the rest of the property, with views of Monika's private lake, her residence, and the Lucky Bug Bed and Breakfast. Plenty of birds to see, and has been called a birder's paradise.
