Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went for a meal here yesterday with family. I must say the food was outstanding. It was very busy which is a good sign that it was popular. The pub was a traditional pub, which was nice. It was a bit noisy but that couldn't...be helped as it was busy. My only moan is that I found the waitresses uninterested, when asked one waitress what a particular sauce was she didn't know and another waitress didn't know the full range of j2os, . Otherwise the meal and establishment was lovely . Will go back again.More

Lovely food! All had 3 courses and all were really good! BUT staff seemed completely uninterested and at some points just rude ! When my husband asked what lagers were available the lady behind the pointed to the end of the bar and said “they...are there”!! The gentleman taking our order and the waitress that served us didn’t have a smile or pleasantry between them…….like they were just a bit bored and unhappy! We felt a little uncomfortable to be honest and really let the whole place down , didn’t leave a tip as the front of house really let the kitchen down!!!! Service with a smile 😊More

We really enjoyed our lunch here. Great welcome from the staff. Interesting menu - we shared 4 small plates betwee the two of us, and they were excellent. We don't normally have dessert but we decided to do so this time and enjoyed our choices....My wife drank a very acceptable Sauvignon Blanc and I was able to choose from the large array of beers on tap - 7 of which were brewed on the premises! My pint of C.O.B. (lowest ABV at 3.8%) was lovely.More

I and three friends had a very enjoyable lunch. The steak, ale and mushroom pie, thrice cooked chips, mushy peas and gravy were all delicious. Best pie I’ve had in a long time. The fish and chips were also very good. The staff were really...lovely. Very friendly and with the right amount of attentiveness.More

We had dinner yesterday evening with the whole family. Three generations from one year to 71. The staff were great and looked after all of us very well. The food was really nice, my steak was cooked just as I asked. The staff really cannot...do enough for you at this restaurant, they are always so nice and accommodating. We have eaten here before and will definitely return.More

We stayed in Cricklade for 5 days,we found The Red Kion on the first night just for a drink. The wife was in heaven, she's a coeliac, lot's of ales brewed on site, 8 on at the time, 3 of which were gluten free. It's...aproper pub that does fabulous food and serves excellent beers.More

Great pub in a lovely location near the town centre but convenient to canal paths and field trails. Good food at sensible prives and an excellent range of beers, some brewed on the premises. Staff are super accommodating and friendly.

Went to the yearly beer festival as usual… good selection of beers… felt that the £10 entry fee- which gave you a plastic beaker- was not quite worth the value…

Nothing is too much trouble for this lovely country pub. The food is always amazing and the staff are a really good bunch. It has its own micro brewery, outside bar and offers doggy ice cream too! Room was lovely and big with all the...amenities such as shampoo, bubble bath and body wash with big fluffy towelsMore

Very surprised to read someone's review claiming homophobia. Having stayed here numerous times with my husband (and once on my own separately - as it's my venue of choice when visiting the area or working in Swindon!) I find the staff and the locals very...friendly. There's a good atmosphere with laughs and banter and the food is excellent. Great selection of drinks including cocktails (for the ladies and us gays!)More

Stayed over en route to a family weekend in Cornwall. Absolutely divine food, understated venue and friendly personable staff. Menu was exceptional and not at all what we expected from traditional pub grub. Planning on making it part of our annual family trek down south...in future 😍More

Very anti gay and amazingly homophobic! Horrible people. I can’t express enough how horrible this pub is with regards to their acceptance of gay people! Horrible! I’m a local in the area and have been visiting this pub for years. As soon as I came...out everyone stopped talking to me!More

The food was amazing, the chef clearly exceptional and passionate about the food, this isn't just run of the mill pub food. We each had 3 course and chose different items from the menu. The atmosphere and the staff were lovely. If you're passing through...Cricklade I strongly recommend you pop into the Red Lion it won't disappointMore
