Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's many years since we last had a meal at the Cowpers Oak but fancying a change, my wife and I ventured forth to see if it had changed any. Turning into the car park and seeing the number of cars parked, there would be...no room for 'walk ins' but in we went. Very busy with loads of folks standing around and a real buzz about the place. Expecting the "we're full" response to asking for a table, the very bubbly waitress dumbfounded us with 'of course' then gave us a choice of seats. Drinks ordered, delivered, menus perused and food order all done & dusted within 10 minutes. Great range of drinks and a good basic no frills menu which really did have a number of dishes I would like to have tried. I had the stew with dumplings which if I was to be critical would say that a little more meat would have set it off but a good range of veg, mash and a lovely gravy made a smashing meal. My wife had their chicken burger with bacon & cheese, also well presented and cooked to perfection. By the end of our main course we had to decline the deserts as we were full, such were the helpings, so perhaps more meat would have tipped us over the top. The atmosphere in the pub was really reminiscent of years passed but by 8:30, so many had left that it had lost a little of its impact. Give the staff their due, they were still vibrant and oozing enthusiasm for the customers who were still there. A grand wee pub which we will certainly go back to sooner, rather than later.More

Fab Sunday lunch here! Great food and service. A warm welcome, and order taken promptly after getting our drinks. Sunday roasts served on hot plates with all the expected trimmings. Delicious! Nice atmosphere and roasts are served until 4.30! Highly recommended!

Stayed here for work, tbh didn’t fancy it when work put me here, how wrong I was Where do I begin, Joe & Debbie excellent hosts great people , food is excellent 10/10 , though the atmosphere in the bar , during open mic nights...etc and , just local people enjoying the sun an good food and drink in the beer garden , to describe as a pub or B&b does it a dispersive , it’s a community hub and village assetMore

We live relatively locally. Had been here a while ago and enjoyed it, thought it was 'posh' given its rural, gentrified location. Came again with family today as it was my wife's birthday. Slowish service, 5 things unavailable that we asked for. Insipid, dry, unfresh...food. Some meat undercooked. Think we may have got better at the wacky warehouse. Friendly waitress, but mucky white trainers. Overpriced. We will not go again but you might try, especially if they reinvent themselves into something the lovely location deserves.More

Checking out some family history connections in the village, and though aware of the pub had not used it previously. Decided to call in for lunch and will certainly come again. Pleasant atmosphere, very comfortable, good range of food and a nice mix of the...familiar / not so familiar on the menu. One of our group is vegan and one prefers vegan / vegetarian options - both were catered for with the choices available and were very complimentary about their meals. Staff were very attentive, efficient and pleasant. A shout out to the person who served us (think it was Molly), brilliant, and seemed to be everywhere at once! Thank you for a very enjoyable visit - we will certainly return.More

The Cowpers Oak; what can I say?! Reading the mixed reviews I was a little concerned but I should not have worried because it was phenomenal! We had a meal on the 23/12/22 and it was brilliant. The service was amazing, the girls serving were...lovely. Particularly the blonde haired girl with her hair up, absolute Angel. Sorry I didn’t catch your name. The food was incredible. For starter I had lamb koftas and I was super impressed, very flavoursome and better than any Greek restaurant I’ve been to. The burger was delicious as were the hand-cut chips (you cannot beat hand cut ones) For dessert it was a pleasure to see Rice Pudding on the menu as you don’t see it on menus much. It was delicious, complete with a fruit compote. This village pub is worth raving about, it’s in the cutest classiest little village and inside the interior is tastefully decorated. I was super impressed and would 100% come again.More

It is a great location. The staff are lovely and friendly. The ambience is exceptional. But the food ... please! The presentation is sloppy, the quality of the food is not great - Mac and cheese is like cheese flavoured macaroni, the chicken wings were...piled on a plate with a sticky brown chilli sauce - it was a mess. The real downer for me and the final motivation for sharing a review was the affogato. Perhaps the staff could google what this is supposed to look like. It is not a cold cup of coffee with a lump of ice cream at the bottom. This was actually revolting.More

Very disappointed that a pub with so much potential has fallen so flat. Smoke house? More service station microwave meal. Love coming here for a beer but will not be back for food.

We stopped off after an adventure around Salcey Forest and had a fantastic pub grub meal ! The service and beer was top notch and the food was home made and delicious. The fire was roaring on a drizzly day! The Southern Fried Chicken Burger...was unreal and 5x better than KFC. Chicken and Chorizo pie homemade, packed to the crust with chicken and flavour! Awesome find on our adventures! Top PubMore

Wanted to eat here for a while, set in a particularly beautiful village. Skipped starters and had the roast which was done very well, simple, nothing fancy just the right amount of food, generous meat portion and lots of tasty gravy. My son had the...supersized burger they do and for once actually filled him up! Staff were plentiful and efficient and lots of friendly smiles. Parking okay. Would definitely come againMore

I cannot rate this place highly enough! Absolute hidden gem tucked away in the little village of Weston Underwood. The environment is like a big warm hug on a winters day, the staff are like a big happy family and the food is just incredible....We had the slow roast beef brisket Sunday roast. The meat was so tender and tasty I could have cried at the last mouthful 😩 unlimited roastie potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, sat by a cosy wood burner with my very happy and well pampered dog. She got just as much (if not more) attention including dog biscuits. I love this place 🥰More

Dogs are allowed in the bar area and garden (there is a separate little playground). There are tables to eat at in both & can be booked ahead. There are also tables out front, where a dog would be allowed.
