Classy in the country

Stopped in for lunch on New Year’s Day with family. Thankfully we arranged an early booking as the venue got really busy as other groups arrived and started to order. When we had ordered starters we all took a walk to see the views- it was beautifully sunny at that point and the views are nearly to the end of the world and really close to the venue. They called us back for starters and so we went back inside for the meal. We found that the menu was well organized and the owner and waitress were both able to give a good description of what we wanted to know. We found prices to be reasonable, even a little lower than the going rates. Being the festive season we asked if we could open our bottle of champagne and this was agreed to for the set (reasonable) corkage fee. The food was excellent to taste and also good to look at. Very worthwhile. Last add that we didn’t wait long after ordering, although, to be fair, this was possibly because we arrived early and so were first in the list before the other groups ordered for that course. So, in closing- lovely drive into the country from Howick, not too far out of town. Beautiful views. Well decorated venue that retains some of its past charms as a stable. Staff were sharp and knowledgeable. Menu was good, covering all bases. There are one or two steps to enter, maybe ask about wheelchair access before booking. There are facilities outside for children to play. Very worthwhile trip. Highly recommended.

Delicious meal and beautiful setting

We visited Tumbledowns a few days ago and the restaurant was busy even though it was the second day of the new year. All the food was delicious, well presented and ample servings. The service was very good and the setting, looking over the green fields and hills of the Natal Midlands, was both beautiful and relaxing

Romantic Dinner

Absolutely outstanding in every way! This was my first time visiting with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. The Curry’s post road is being worked on so be aware. Upon arrival there is outside parking under some gorgeous old trees.Tumble Downs offers outside seating available which overlooks the meander. We opted for inside seating and were not disappointed- the fire was on, the table setup was artfully done and the interior of the building has such a lovely original brick feel. The staff were attentive and there is such a unique selection of meals available - this is not a basic burger and pasta place, Tumble Downs offers a casual sophisticated menu. We had a Herb Crumbed Guacamole Chicken Stack (10/10 garlic sauce was perfectly balanced) and the Beef Fillet Stack (10/10 just melts in your mouth) The prices reflect the quality of food you receive. They really made an effort to make our anniversary special with a Crème Brulee & handwritten note! I definitely recommend visiting and we will definitely be back.

Delicious and delightful

I had the pleasure of a Saturday lunch here in early August 2020. Lovely drive from Nottingham Road (preferably avoiding the N3 under repairs at present) to be met by a warm welcome from Werner. Competent service from Joe. Beautiful location and views. I had shredded duck spring rolls to start (3 in portion) with a pineapple/chilli sauce. Very good. Fillet with brie and cranberry sauce, scrumptious. Lovely choices on menu and specials board. Excellent overall. Mid-R400s with tip. Don't miss this lovely place.

Werner and Michelle continue to provide an excellent meal and service even under the difficult circumstances imposed by the coronavirus shutdown. Thankful that after a period of 3 months we are able to dine again, and at our favourite venue. Superb meals individually prepared for slow dining and enjoying the view over the KZN Midlands

Hidden Gem in the Midlands

A large group of us ranging from ages 3 to 73 had lunch on 27 December. The welcome and service we got from the minute we arrived was wonderful. We sat at a long table adjoining the garden and jungle gym so the children were delighted. Our waiter was exceptional - friendly, attentive, informative and just an all round super guy, we all loved him. Everyone enjoyed their meals very much, I had the deep fried Camembert as a starter and the Crispy Duck as a main, both sublime. Hubby had the Spring Roll starter and a Stack of Steak…done to perfection. The menu has a great variety of wonderful choices, there was not a single complaint from our table of 18. The setting is simple ‘Country’ with beautiful views. This was our second visit to Tumble Downs and we vote this the best restaurant in our lovely Midlands.

Such a lovely setting

iIt was out third visit to Tumble Downs. The forst 2 were for dinner and this one for lunch. We had a great table on the deck looking out over the property and spent a very pleasant afternoon having a long lunch. The food has been great on all 3 occasions but this time we both enjoyed the calamari and highly recommend it. The service is always friendly and the owner is delightful. We love the location and the deck is our favourite if weather allows. We will definitely be back on our next visit.

Fabulous food

Quiet, ala carte menu. Lovely views, roaring fires. What more could you ask for? The food is amazing and you are sure to find something interesting to eat. Service is great and staff accommodating and knowledgeable about the menu. A little off the main roads but we always stop off for lunch when on the meander.

Heaven!

The food was delicious, accompanied by a fantastic scenic view = A match made in heaven. The service was spot on, our waiter was superb aswell. Truly a hidden gem. All in all, a lovely atmosphere and will definitely be back again soon!

Local Lunch

Had lunch on recommendation of local lad from The Nguni Man. Very quite Friday afternoon. on a patio with a wonderful view. Service was good, so was the food. Value for money also good and the owners friendly and eager to assist.

Amazing dinner in Howick

An absolute gem in Howick on Curry Post Road. Not far at all. Set in a tranquil setting, this is fine dining at its best. The food was delicious and very well presented. It is also very well priced. The atmosphere was great, with wonderful decor and wonderful indoor fires to keep you warm and cosy. Very romantic 😍 💕

Beautiful restaurant and venue

An incredibly beautiful restaurant and venue on the Midlands Meander. Stunning views of the lush green hills and Drakensberg mountains. Lovely lawns and areas for kids to play safely. Food and service is excellent.
