Went for the afternoon tea as we thought it would be really special. Quite disappointed. They got our sandwich fillings wrong, we ended up with more cheese and pickle and for the price you pay l could have had that at home.
I noticed the table opposite were complaining they hadn’t been served and they came at the same time as we had. Another table left as they were fed up of waiting.
I certainly will not be rushing back for afternoon tea.

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit . We are sorry that you were disappointed with your Afternoon Tea, we usually receive very positive feedback from our customers.I have checked with members of the cafe team and they advised that you did in fact request not to have some of the fillings on offer when the booking was made . Your table was meal checked and you were provided with some additional sandwiches when you brought it to the waiting staff's attention.
We can only offer our sincere apologies that on this occasion we failed to meet our usual high standard of satisfaction , should you with to pay us another visit we would be delighted to welcome you back.
Best wishes

We turned up at around 12:30 for a lunch. Granted we hadn’t booked, but they managed to clear a table for the pair of us outside. We had to wait ages to even be offered a drink which should have been the time to leave. When ordering food we checked the wait time as we didn’t have long and they assured us around 15 mins… 30 minutes later and we were still waiting and had to ask if it had been forgotten. When it finally arrived the food was pleasant enough but definitely not worth the wait and had to be rushed rather than enjoyed due to time constraints. Other tables were also complaining about the wait time. It would have been fine if they had given us an indication when ordering and we would have gone a different day when we had more time. They definitely need to get some more staff for busy times, or have less seating available for food service. A very disappointing experience.

Very disappointing visit at the beginning of March. The Farm Shop was overflowing with cakes, bar cakes etc.
In the cafe we were offered the choice of 2, yes 2 cakes!!
During this visit both the shop and cafe were quiet.
The lady who served our table was very pleasant but quite new and was not aware of the choice that had been offered in the past. Having travelled over 12 miles and having looked forward to a vast choice of cakes (as in the past) this was disappointing and will not be rushing back.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit , we are sorry to hear that on this occasion we failed to meet our usual high standard of satisfaction.
Yes we have reduced the number of cakes on offer in the restaurant from the deli counter , to encourage people to try the delicious selection of desserts available on our dessert menu ,at least five , which our chefs prepare fresh to order . The specials board has a choice of two cakes , a GF cake of the day and a choice of three traybakes and usually a specials pudding of the day , sometimes more !! You could also have chosen from Toasted teacake or freshly baked scone served with clotted cream and a fruit preserve .
We do hope you will pay us another visit

It is such a shame to be writing this but I feel the owners need to be aware of customer experiences. My husband, daughter and myself visited the cafe today for a late lunch after a long walk (so we were starving!). The cafe wasn’t particularly busy and we were eventually seated and given menus. Then we waited. And waited. The young lady who seated us made it her mission to totally ignore us. She spent a great deal of time slowly clearing tables and then disappearing. After 20 minutes we got up and left. We would not only have spent at least £40 in the cafe but we would have also spent money in the farm shop too. I’m really sorry to say we will not be returning.

Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention , the matter has been discussed at length with the front of house manager and the team working on the day of your visit. I am assured by the waiting staff that you were not left waiting for twenty minutes and they were surprised that you had left without even mentioning that you were waiting to have your order taken .
Please accept our sincere apologies that we failed to meet our usual high standard of satisfaction.

I have visited Drewtons many times since it first opened and watched a decline in quality and service, have they lost interest? I have kept returning hoping that it has improved but I'm constantly dissappointed.
The service staff walk around staring at the ground, it is hopeless trying to get their attention. The food used to be good but is now mediocre, what a lost oportunity.
The owner needs to get a grip on the situation, apply some staff training and imrove the kitchen procedures to produce quality food more quickly.

Okay, so where do I start in a reply to your TripAdvisor report/review/call it what you wish?
As the owner of the business, I find your comments extremely rude and hurtful. Having opened this business 9.5 years ago, supporting over 250 LOCAL farmers, growers, producers and suppliers … not to mention a further 200 other professional businesses and around 50 employees … it beggars belief that we've won many awards and we have so many lovely comments and compliments about our team, our food, our events, etc, etc.
We take great pride in our menus and listen to our customers, study the sales and put our creative heads together to deliver delicious and nutritious dishes, using local foods. Our menus are vast, as you will be aware.
Granted, there have been a number of occasions over the years when I have personally found a member of staff not appearing their best but I can assure you that our managers look after the teams well and we do encourage the staff to enjoy their work and leave personal situations at the door. You never know what goes on in people's lives but, as far as I am aware, I have a happy team and they often tell me so. The same teams have intense training and follow strict guidelines and procedures. All dishes are cooked to order and we are not a pub diner with microwave meals. If there is a delay in food, due to busy times, then the managers will let customers know ahead of ordering. We are also currently looking at the menu choices with a view to cutting back to take some pressure off the kitchen at these times.
We have a great many wonderful customers who take pride and joy in our business and our staff. For many, our teams have become very much family and mean a great deal to these individuals and to their extended families.
Due to popular demand for private dining, weddings and other events, we launched a brand new weddings and events venue in June last year. There a question in this sentence!
We notice that you make no reference to exact dates you visited, which would be helpful to know which staff were working (when we are open seven days per week and could look further into your comments), but at the time of sending your review, you sent six reviews in total and perhaps you felt happier hiding behind a keyboard than addressing your experience at the time of your visit?
As for telling me to 'get a grip' ….
Perhaps turn the table around, look at what you do in your life, what you do in business, what you do to support local and employment … and I'd be amazed if you tell me it's an easy job to do. How would you like to receive comments like this from a total stranger????
With regards

Our first outing in 6 months to a restaurant - we booked afternoon tea as a family to celebrate a birthday. The food took almost an hour to come - we had children with us who really struggled as they were so hungry. Afternoon tea was very average - finger sandwiches were crispy so had obviously been left out for a while and the scone quite dry. I appreciate these are difficult times for restaurants but basic quality shouldn’t suffer. It’s a shame as I don’t think I’ll be going back.

Thank you for your review , its disappointing to read that you weren't entirely satisfied . All tables are meal checked , and had any of the comments you have made above been made to one of the waiting staff we could have done something about it ie replaced sandwiches / scones , chased up the order in the kitchen etc.
We can only hope you will now accept our sincere apologies that we failed to meet our usual high standard of satisfaction on this occasion , and that you will pay us another visit.

given a voucher for afternoon tea which sadly expired in May - rang today to be told that they had extended for three months - though did ring before May and was told that they had extended due to covid but no time scale given. So when ringing today to be told that they now wouldn`t honour it was rather upsetting. My husband is vulnerable and certainly would not want to sit in a cafe. I would have thought that in the present circumstances that people would be more understanding and helpful

Hi, sorry to read your review. Perhaps you could clarify ... if it expired in May 2020 then, yes, we would not be able to now honour it. However, if it expired in May 2021 then it would indeed be extended? Whilst the restaurant has been closed for a period of time, many customers have also enjoyed their afternoon teas as takeout platters ... either when the restaurant was closed and whilst it has been open, to avoid being around other people. Kind regards

Popped in for brunch on the way to Beverley to do a bit of shopping and so glad we did. Excellent quality food and service at a very reasonable price. Unlike some places in the East Riding that charge nearly as much they understand the need for a fried egg in a full English breakfast and the quality of the bacon and sausage is first class and the staff are just delightful.

Thoroughly delicious Sunday lunch on Halloween day.
Let me start by saying I'm a foodie, and always put quality first and there was nothing about this visit that disappointed me.
I dined around 2pm and it was still quite busy, so I would recommend calling ahead if you plan to visit.
I opted for the classic roast beef, washed down with a glass of house Merlot. It didn't take long for my plate to arrive piping hot and smelling delicious.
2 slices of thick cut perfectly pink Roast Sirlion, accompanied by crisp and fluffy roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a red wine gravy, vegetable were chantenay carrots, mange tout, and a separate dish of rich and creamy cauliflower cheese, for me a quintessential Sunday Lunch.
Clean dishes were returned to the kitchen along with my compliments.
A walk round the farm shop provided the end to a great meal.
Already looking forward to my next visit, because even though cheaper alternatives are available, eateries that offer the vevel of quality and field to fork provenance that Drewtons do are not so common and should be supported whenever you find one

We live in Huddersfield and visit Beverley monthly. Our day out always includes a visit to Drewtons on the way home. The food choice in the cafe is great and very good quality, we like sitting outside to eat if the weather is good. We then spend time in the farm shop which has many tempting things. The meat is excellent and we stock up for the month. We also buy their flour, it makes really tasty bread.
The staff are very friendly and always about if you need to ask anything. Car parking is easy and the whole place is in a lovely spot.

I visited today for the first time in recommendation of a guy at the North Cave Nature Reserve. The service was great, the atmosphere was so relaxed and the food was so delicious and great value for money. I would definitely recommend and will be visiting again.
The farm shop was also great with plenty of choices.

My husband and I called and were given a table which was close to a door to the kitchen. It was loud and I could hear them chatting loudly.
I ordered the sausage and onion sandwich, my husband ordered a breakfast.
My sausages were cold and the bread felt as if it had been either left out overnight or bakes for too long. It was so tough. It was sent back. A young waitress returned it and literally placed it in front of me, without saying a word and walked off.
Odd behaviour.
However, a man at a table close by received his sausage sandwich and I could see he had 3 sausages in, cut in half. I had 2.
He picked the whole thing up and bit into his bread, I could tell it was very different to mine. His was soft and easy to bite into. There’s no way I could have done that.
I just think my meal was a cancelled order and had been sat about waiting for it to be ordered.
Nobody seemed to care.
We paid and left.
We won’t be back.

Thank you for your feedback, following your visit for breakfast.
All comments have been passed back to our Executive Chef and his team, along with our Restaurant Managers who will liaise with their team regarding their customer service and liaising with customers appropriately.
Our bread is baked fresh each day and there are always three sausages in the sausage and onion sandwich, with the sausages sliced into halves. It would be extremely unusual to be given two sausages unless this was an oversight and missed by two key members of the kitchen team, before being served, and for which we can only apologise. One chef would make and produce the sandwich, which would then be passed by the Head Chef running the pass on the day.
The kitchen is a fast-paced environment and dishes do not sit around before being served to the customer. We are, however, reviewing some of our bread types for our next menu as some artisan breads are not as soft as others.
With kind regards

Called in first thing in morning looking for some treats to pack up for picnic in the park….
bought some very expensive scotch eggs & quiche, & homemade coleslaw….
Very very disappointed…. quiche was awful , tough pastry & tasteless.. coleslaw was made with cheap watery dressing… awful… will not be calling in again anytime soon.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your visit to our Deli Counter.
All comments have been passed on to our Deli Manager and Executive Chef.
Unfortunately, we are in unprecedented times and all our producers and suppliers have increased their prices, along with other business overheads and costs rising. A scotch egg is a meal in itself and we have to work with margins, as you will expect.
Whilst we make and produce as much as we can on site, we do also buy in from reputable local bakers, including our individual quiches. This feedback will be passed on to this producer and I will be trying it for taste and quality at our next overview of the Deli offering.
Following a conversation with our Exec Chef, our coleslaw is made in-house and freshly mixed each day. It consists of three types of cabbage (spring, white and savoy), onions, carrots, lemon zest, chives, parsley, and quality mayonnaise. It is not a processed product, found in many delicatessens.
We thank you for your feedback which has been addressed within the team.
With kind regards

As many others will do, we had all looked at the menu before deciding to book and two of us, had decided to order the seafood board. Only when we were having our order taken, were we told it wasn't available. I do appreciate that it can be difficult to source ingredients but it would have been better to be told when we were given out menus rather than at the point of order.
The food was good quality, however, a full English breakfast was sent out without an egg. Two Black Forest Amaretto Trifles looked completely different when they arrived and when I asked the waitress if they were the same I was told "I think so". Fortunately another member of the staff stepped in and said one didn't look right and exchanged it.

Thank you for your review we are sorry that you were disappointed with your visit . Our seafood boards have been a popular menu choice. The kitchen try and keep all the waiting team updated with availability but occasionally some items sell out between a customer being seated and their order being taken , forcing customers to select something else off the menu.
We look forward to seeing you again

Very disappointed with afternoon tea here, would never re visit. The scones and pot of tea were excellent and the chocolate cake and macaroon. They only served one small pot of cream for four scones but happily brought another one. On the downside; why would you make the sandwiches with cheap waxy spread and not butter, I don't eat this stuff ever, and it was all I could taste through the sandwiches. The fillings were OK, two lots of cheese and chutney was a bit much and only one meat and one salmon. The quiche was so chilled it wasn't enjoyable and it was a small round one, cut in 4 and served just plonked on top of the sandwiches. There was no garnish and I understand they may be going for a pared down modern look, but no doilies on the plates. Overall nothing special what so ever and vile spread being the real spoiler. I cannot recommend but would recommend going in for a scone if passing.

Thank you for your feedback following your visit for Afternoon Tea.
Whilst is appears that you enjoyed most of your dining experience, I wanted to explain a couple of points raised.
We do not use doilies, and we never have done. These are now an expensive product and difficult to obtain through suppliers, adding extra unnecessary cost.
The butter we use is a quality dairy free butter, which we have used for a long time now. Along with the bread, which is also dairy free, it helps when catering for dietary requirements and the chefs are able to produce quantities at a time, each day. Our Executive Chef is discussing how thinly spread this is with his team.
There are five individual finger sandwiches per person … so an Afternoon Tea for two would indeed have had two cheese and chutney finger sandwiches. The other fillings include various sauces, or dressings, as follows …
Smoked salmon with cream cheese and cucumber
Roast beef with horseradish cream
Home-roast ham with wholegrain mustard and salad
Vintage Cheddar cheese with Yorkshire chutney
Egg mayonnaise with cress
We used to offer one scone per person but we now include two smaller scones – a sultana scone and a cherry scone – per person. Of course, our team are more than willing to fill your clotted cream, should this be required, and as you experienced.
The quiches and sausage roll savoury bites are made fresh by our chefs and should be warmed, along with the scones, prior to serving. Again, our Executive Chef is addressing this with the entire team.
We thank you again for your feedback, which has been addressed.
With kind regards
