This cafe features Japanese pancake with Soy-bean paste, which was established in 1909. They cooked homemade Soy-bean paste and baked one by one. The dough was crispy and the bean paste was sweet gently. Very high quality. However, this shop is always very crowded. Customer might wait for 40 minutes to purchase on weekdays.

Since I've heard so much about their popularity, I was pleasantly surprised to find it quite not as crowded as it was described by many Japanese friends. Quickly, I bought 10 & started eating while walking to the station. Hot and crispy, sweet but not overwhelmingly so. If you like thin crust, this is the place to get them. I... More

We were in the Azabu-juban area for a simple yakitori dinner and came upon Naniwaya Sohonten. We saw this traditional sweet being made at the back of the narrow shop behind a glass window. Taiyaki is a fish-shaped cake with a sweetened red bean paste filling (tai means sea bream; yaki means to grill). Other fillings are custard, chocolate or... More

This is an old shop in the Azabujuban area. A friend living in Tokyo brought us here for dessert. Upon reaching the shop, you will smell the freshly charcoal toasted Taiyaki, which makes you hungry. I have not seen a charcoal toasted Taiyaki in ages and this one is yummy! There are seatings available on the second floor and where... More

We thought we could just grab and go. But was told we had to wait at least 1 hour for taiyaki whether for 1 or 3 pieces. Priced at yen 150 each it did not looked complicated to prepare. Yet each buyer had to give our names to return and pickup later. I suspect it's a very clever marketing gimmick.... More

Taiyaki is Japanese fish-shaped cake, wikipedia says. Yes it is fish-shaped, especially sea bream shaped. Tai, means sea bream, and it stands for happiness and celebration. You might be wondering why a cake has to be fish-shaped, but this is why. We used to eat Taiyaki when celebrate. Now, Taiyaki is a casual snack for kids and girls. Original type... More
