This is my 5th time at this restaurant and it’s AWESOME. Food as always incredible, I can’t recommend highly enough adding a sizzling hot rice bowl to your choices. Brilliant staff, Mario in particular keeps the party happening with a great 80’s themed music playlist...while you dine. People sometimes say it’s a tourist trap but they are ignorant to that fact it is a great foodie spot and that the staff are fabulous. GO! You won’t regret it.More

Delicious food, noisy, fun atmosphere, great service. The staff calls out welcome to everyone who enters. Runa Ito was our server and she was attentive, efficient, warm and charming. We walked in on a Friday evening without reservations. It was a very enjoyable experience.

I’ve been many times to the Gonpachi restaurant in Nishi Azabu, one of the locations for the movie “Kill Bill,” but had never tried any of their other restaurants. A friend invited myself and my family to join him for dinner at Gonpachi’s Shibuya location....A lot of people say that Gonpachi is a tourist trap, and that is partially true. But it is also an excellent restaurant with great food and a lively atmosphere. Access is very easy if you are visiting Shibuya. At the “Scramble Intersection” you head up Dogen-zaka road, which climbs uphill. Gonpachi is about 10 minutes walk on the right side, next to a large 5-way intersection. The restaurant is on the 16th floor if I remember correctly. Gonpachi has a great menu. I recommend one of the 3 dinner courses, the more expensive the course, the more food you get. You can add the “nomi-hodai” or “all you can drink” option which has a menu of bottomless alcohol and non-alcohol drinks you can enjoy while you eat. There are staff who can speak English, and they have an English menu available. So far, every dish I have had at Gonpachi has been good to excellent, and if you are looking for an interesting place with good food during your visit to Shibuya, I can’t recommend it enough. Reservations are a good idea if you are coming on a weekend, but are not required. You may have to wait in line for a table. Mayonnaise is used on some of their sushi dishes, if you don’t like mayonnaise, simply say “mayonazu nashi” and they’ll not add it.More

Our hotel (Tokyo Toranamon Edition) recommended Gonpachi in Shibuya and so we got a table for 10 of us. The place was so lively. The atmosphere was great, amazing service. We loved the beef skewers, the shrimp tempura, the tuna skewers and edamame. It had...something for everyone in our group and we had young kids teenagers and adults. We highly highly recommend. We actually returned the next night for dinner again, because we loved it so much. It is up on the 14th floor in Shibuya! The Mgr had great energy too!More

We were in a private alcove off the main restaurant and I had to go into the main restaurant to get our server. While the food was good the service spoiled the meal.

Took my two kids (4 & 7) here to meet a friend for dinner. There was lots they could eat despite not having a kid-specific menu. The wait staff were friendly and understanding, even providing a kids' fork/spoon/bowl set for them. The food was good...and we tried a wide variety of what the menu had to offer: dashimaki egg, chicken skewers, tempura, "gyoza pizza" (similar to Korean Pae Jun), and I had a course menu with fish, veggies, soba, and some AMAZING wagyu beef skewers. I cannot suggest the beef skewer highly enough. It was pricey because you're paying for the Shibuya location as much as anything, but easily worth the money for a night-out splurge. I had no trouble ordering in Japanese, but the staff also speak some English if you need help.More

We were just there last week and my wife and I had a delightful meal. The service was impeccable as well as the English skills of the chef. We adored learning about temaki and tasting a variety of new combinations that we had never dreamed...of. The atmosphere and decor were perfect. Highly recommend trying this place out for lunch or dinner! Small plates - satisfying in every way!More

My wife and I visited Gonpachi on a Saturday afternoon and it was very quiet, with only a few tables being served, but the flip side to that was that we had none of the issues about slow or poor service that the last few...reviewers have reported on. We thought the food was all very nice, and especially the fried chicken ( we ordered a second portion), among the noodles, rice, various skewers and tuna dish we tried. For this last dish, you had to roll the tuna yourself, which was a bit fiddly but fun. We thought the cost of the meal was reflective of the quality and feel of the restaurant and had no complaints. As to the menus, they provided one with, and one without pictures of the food for ease and in English. The only slightly negative comment does not relate to the food, but on arrival we asked if we could sit at one of the tables near the window that overlooked the surrounding area. That request was declined, although there was only two other tables occupied at the time. We did not push further on this and assumed it was because the tables were reserved for larger parties. A lady and her child later arrived to be seated at one of these tables, which was a bit disappointing for us as it was not explained why we could not have seated there as well. I would still give it a try, but looks like you may need to pick your eating times carefully to avoid some of the recent reports of slow service.More

I’ve been to the gonoachi in Roppongi but this one took the price in bad service. Normally in Japan the service is always great and fast. Not here. Even after 2 hours we hadn’t gotten our full order. We decided to just leave and not...spend anymore time waiting for the desert that never came. Food was medicore and overpriced. You basically pay for view here but nothing else. Will not come back.More
