This place was absolutely delicious! The wait wasn't too long, about 10 minutes, on a Friday. Highly recommend for tonkatsu.

This is the must-visit for Tonkatsu for each visit to Tokyo. The bread crumbs are just delightfully crispy and light and the pork always succulent. Each day, only a limited number of servings of some special pork are available, so it always pays to arrive...early while they’re still available. After the meal, the takeaway sandwiches also make for a nice snack later in the dayMore

I came at an odd time, late lunch/early dinner so there was no wait. Pork filet set - was very filling. The filet was good so well and the meat was tender. Green Tea highball - this was tasty. It had an even amount of...alcohol and green tea. 3 piece tonkatsu sandwich - such a simple dish, but still so tasty. The service was really good. It was one of my more expensive meals during my visit, but very well worth it.More

The Tonkatsu served with oysters were pretty good and tasty ! The quality of rice declined and that is a very important side dish in Japan . You increase the price of the dishes but do not try to save money on the rice .

Dear curara, Thank you for visiting us from among many restaurants. We are sorry that we made you feel uncomfortable during your visit to our restaurant. We take your comments seriously and will make thorough improvements in the future. Thank you for your valuable feedback.
Tonkatsu was delicious but it’s a bit expensive what i had was 4,000 yen and i personally think, with this price Tonkatsu must be good. For me, one time experience is enough i don’t think i would visit here again.

Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama Honten is one of the most famous chain restaurants for Tonkatsu in Japan. We were impressed by their fried pork chop sandwich which was a collaboration with Family Mart a few years ago. The restaurant was located away from the main streets...and we even got lost while looking for it. The decor was modern with an open kitchen set up and the ambience was elegant. Their service was really authentic Japanese, polite and considerate. The options on the menu were various and we had a hard time making up our decisions. We ordered a classic pork chop set and a sashimi & pork chop combination. Their fried pork chop was super juicy inside with crispy & chunky layer. The best way to enjoy is dipping in the special sauce with white radish purée. The sashimi was okay but not special so we highly recommend to have their signature fried pork chop set.More

The beauty of Maisen's tonkatsu is in the way they fry pork in panko crumbs. Every bite is just juicy and delicious. Also I recommend getting Rosu because there's no fun in eating lean pork without fat!!

Went there with family for dinner during our holiday. Ambiance is good, very clean, attentive staff and family friendly. Price more to the premium side but the quality of meat and food is apparent. Highly recommended for tonkatsu lovers.

Visited at lunch time and the q was Super Long. We decided to do a takeaway instead - tried the pork cutlet, pork sandwich and the shrimp tempura. All excellent especially the pork, which was succulent and crispy! Visit early for the restaurant.

Mixed review here for my first tonkotsu in Japan. Unlike the other reviews, there wasn't any queue when we came (around 3pm) and the staff spoke very little English. We were only offered the japenese menu so we chose using the pictures. We had what...we learned after was the loin, which was lean and good, as well as the curry version but not loin. The curry version was good but a bit fatty to my liking. We were not sure which sauces to use either, found out afterwards that the soy sauce was for the radish. So mixed review here, I cannot help but comparing it to the chicken katsu curry we have in the UK which I personally prefer to the pork version.More

Great place to eat, staff spoke very good english and the food was amazing, must try katsu sandwich. Not expensive at all and very tasty.

Tucked away behind the main road full of designer fashion houses is this traditional restaurant. It feels very different from anything European, but the pictures on the menu help with choices, and apart from one or two options, it's all pork cutlets with different cuts...of meat, but even the cheapest can be eaten using chopsticks! The atmosphere is great, with a main dining area and private rooms with sliding doors at the back, a wonderful conversion of an old bath house. The pork is served on a tray with grated cabbage, pickles, rice and miso. The pots of sauces on the tables are an excellent accompaniment.More

It is as good as advertised. That tonkatsu does melt in your mouth. Pricey but worth the indulgence. We tried to make a reservation, and were told that it was fully booked. But we went anyway, and there was a plenty of available tables. Friendly...service.More

Maisen is a genuine Tokyo Institution for Tonkatsu. The pork is excellent and the service is old style Japanese. The main dining hall with its old high ceiling was actually originally the wooden locker room of a traditional bathhouse. Even though the interior was refurbished...recently the genuine atmosphere remains. They have added upscale gourmet pork to the menu, but the basic Tonkatsu is amazing in itself.More

I never knew you could cut tonkatsu with a fork. That’s how tender the pork was. I ordered the aged loin cutlet. It was the weekend special menu and it was 5000 yen but it was the most tender tonkatsu ever. Not sure if I’m...ever going to have tonkatsu anywhere else.More
