Trying this imahan branch at Grandroof tokyo. Tried the set of ¥3,000+, it was very good. Their sukiyaki sauce was very tasty. They cooked the meat (surely not the matsuzaka) perfectly so you just dig in! They served them in a small claypot, together with pickles, miso soup, and rice. It was perfectly portioned for one person. You'll get mushrooms,... More

One of my favourite beef sukiyaki/shabu shabu place. The beef is superb and service is good. Lunch menu is probably cheaper and good value if you find dinner prices a bit high.

You're given the choice of sitting at a table Western Style or sitting on tatami mats. We chose tatami mats and had a great experience. Their lunch options are reasonable given the quality of the food and the top notch service. The sukiyaki was incredible!

Shabu Shabu is a must do culinary experience in Japan and we were not disappointed. However expect to pay at least ¥10000 per person (list prices don't incl tax or service charge), so if you just want the experience there are cheaper places in the neighborhood. We had excellent food and service (important since the server is your guide as... More

Firstly, the price of this restaurant is not a hight side, but enventually I realizes that it is worth every Yen spent. Food is deliscious. Good quality beef. Services are great, it does help that staff are able to communicate in English quite well. The seating is a bit uncomfortabld as we sat on the traditional Japanese table, but it... More

This restaurant is pricey but the food is excellent and the waitresses are very patient and helpful. Even our children enjoyed the sukiyaki and tempura dishes. Highly recommended.

Had a lunch sukiyaki set at this lovely establishment which is much cheaper than their dinner sets Our server showed us how to cook our first round of sukiyaki. Food was just amazing, the wagyu beef melts in your mouth.

We went for lunch, more affordable than dinner, and were well taken care to a traditional japanese dining room on 3rd floor. We tried shabu shabu, teryaki and steak bowl. Waitresses are highly skilled and explain well how to prepare the food. Beef is Kobe of very good quality. Price is expensive but well deserved given the quality of the... More

I guess my expectations were high because of all the great reviews, but I found their beef just so-so. I mean it was good, but nothing extraordinary, really. A great experience though to cook your own sukiyaki.

We chose to dine here as recommended by a Japanese friend, and it definitely did not disappoint. We arrived 20 minutes before the restaurant opened and there was already a queue outside. Great sukiyaki experience; the staff will show you the correct way to prepare the sukiyaki and cook the first round of beef for you. The rest is up... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
