Wonderfull experience. You are knees sitting in front of a warming table were you learn how to cook a delicious okonomiyaki

This was my most authentic dining experience while in Tokyo. I had lunch here and I enjoyed the experience very much. You put your shoes in plastic bags provided at the entrance so when you're in the restaurant everyone is barefoot. I was seated in...the back and an English menu was provided and instructions on how to cook the meal. I ordered the pork and I cooked my meal with the sauces provided and I enjoyed the entire meal and process. The meal was decent and something I have not experienced before and I would absolutely do it again.More

I happened to find this place when I was looking for a Okonomi-yaki restaurant around Ueno/Asakusa area on the internet. I'm a Japanese but I rarely go that area for food. It seems very popular so I wanted to take my friend visiting Japan. Long...story short, this will be the first time and the last time to go there. I have never had Okonomi-yaki that small and tasteless. Very stingy. Atmosphere is really good though. Shame.More

We read of this in a “48 hours in Tokyo” article - it was included as part of a Asakusa day. The place is tiny - cash only. The “cook your own pancake on a red hot table top griddle” is awesome! (Altho the sitting...on the floor challenged my back a bit!). One pancake and 2 beers will feed 2 moderately hungry people. 2 for 3 is more than enough food. Should not be missed!More

One of the highlights for us. After a disappointing Okonomiyaki experience in Hakuba, we gave this place a go and it was amazing. Easy to find with the online map and the help of photos of the entrance and house facade. Short waiting time until...we were seated in the back of the restaurant. Seating is on the floor (you take your shoes off at the entrance) There is an English menu available and the staff spoke some basic English. The pancake ingredients are brought to the table for you to mix and cook. The flavours were amazing, our favourites were the beef and the kimchi Okonomiyaki. Prices are very reasonable and the overall experience was fantastic.More

Spectacular, interactive eating at its best and soooo tasty. Authentic, traditional, mouth watering meals. Tepanyaki sides available (stunning Japanese mushrooms). Loads of Okonomiyaki meal choices. A little hard to find as the outside was all in Japanese but decided that it must be the place with heaps of locals entering. Had the best time at the place and really enjoyed the whole experience. The meal was really delicious and reasonably...priced. Can not rate this place high enough. Would definitely recommend and wish we had more time to return.More

I came here for the vego options and it didnt disappoint! If you need vegan options, Fujifuku is next door. Traditional seating...cook your own food, lots of fun. Awesome staff!

Third time was the charm! I finally found this hidden gem right in Asakusa. Sat there by myself for almost two hours before my friends arrived, calmly eating, having a beer and chatting with the super friendly staff, who spoke English and made a kind...effort to understand my Japanese. Sometaro's okonomiyaki is the best I've had, hands down. And I tried Osaka style and Kyoto style, so I can fairly judge. Staff will initially help you and teach you how to cook your okonomiyaki and then you will have to fend for yourself - which is a lot of fun! Just be careful if you're not sure if you can flip it over, don't be afraid to ask for help. A little "sumimasen" and "onegaishimasu" will get you a long way! Im so glad we came here. Small queue to start with but we came first and early for lunch. Take off your shoes (plastic bags provided to carry in with you). You sit in front of the hot plates and choose off the menu what...you want. English menus - excellent. The staff are very friendly and help you if you need it. Lots of variety to choose from. Not a long wait for your okonomiyaki to come in good size bowls. You mix the raw ingredients yourself then pour onto the hotplate. Staff will help if they see it needs a bit longer or it is ready to flip on the other side. Once cooked, baste with teriyaki sauce, sprinkle seaweed flakes and squeeze over the mayo. Cut onto your plate and enjoy. Absolutely delicious. This wonderful place is definitely an authentic experience and the staff, although they speak limited English, do and say enough for you both to understand each other. Cash only - no credit card - and squat toilets :-) Loved this place.More

After freezing on our Asakusa tour, it was a dream to walk over to the cute little house. Shoes off and sit on the floor. The warm hibachi thing helped warm us up! We had two of the pancakes and that was plenty for two....They were delicious - I think we had pork or shrimp and the pumpkin one HIGHLY RECOMMEND VERY REASONABLE and charming.More
