Popped in for lunch and a pint whilst in Castle Cary for the day. Initially tried the George in town but walked out after waiting an age to be served.
The Bay Tree is a 5 minute walk out of the main town centre, but...worth it.
The service was very good and we were made to feel welcome, it was a lovely day and we were going to sit in the small garden, but the smokers put us off so the Waitress found us a nice table inside.
The food is typical pub grub, Pies, steaks etc. We had the gammon and chips which was excellent.
Only one ale on tap, but understandable given the times we are in. Would have liked it to have been a local ale rather than Doom Bar. But was nice enough all the same.
In all a lovely pub to pop into for a pint and some grub.More
Called in for dinner whilst staying just across the road. Really nice welcome and very good attentive service throughout. Lovely home cooked food and what good portions. Having shared a starter (we had been advised about the portion size), I had the burger which came...with the best onion rings ever. My wife had the fish and chips which were also very good. It was quite quiet, but it was a Wednesday evening, and still had a lovely vibe about the place.More
Had an amazing home delivered takeaway Wednesday evening, arrived piping hot, melt in the mouth steak and ale pie followed by chocolate fudge cake. Lockdown heaven. Just as good as eating in the restaurant.
We visited The Bay Tree for dinner while staying in Castle Cary for the week and can thoroughly recommend this pub. The food was lovely, the staff friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. It is proper pub food; not fancy, but honest food...cooked well. My steak was cooked exactly as I had asked and my daughter's request to have a starter as a main meal was happily accommodated and beautifully presented. The portion sizes were all very generous and, much as we were tempted we couldn't fit pudding in. If we are ever in the area again we would definitely go back!More
Meal was delicious, I recommend the beer battered fish and chips. The kids were catered for well, the Sunday roast portions were immense, so my the Grandparents went for a small, which was ample for them. The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. Plastic dividers between...tables to aid social distancing. They also sold a lovely collection of handmade face masks, so we bought some of those too!More
We had a delicious meal with great Service and good Covid 19 protections in place.....thank you....this is a lovely little family run freehouse pub and restaurant....do support our local restaurants through these difficult times if you can.
My wife, baby son and I have enjoyed the hospitality of the Bay tree for the last couple of days. The atmosphere and welcome was fantastic. The food was superb quality, beautifully cooked and presented and absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly, professional and kind....The choice of food and drink is extensive - there is something for everyone! We can’t wait to return to the Bay Tree and would heartily recommend you visit here! We particularly enjoyed Tilly the cat and Rocky the parrot!!More
Had a wonderful meal at the Bay Tree. The burgers were some of the best we had eaten in a long time. Staff were very attentive and friendly and they had things very well set up for Covid.
Again, the only down side was a...lack of local ales which I was expecting and looking forward to. Seems to be a theme for local pubs in Castle Cary. However, this didn't take away from a really lovely evening.More
