Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Looking for somewhere dog friendly for lunch. Couldn’t have been more please with the reception we got for the dog and ourselves. Staff were very friendly and good wholesome food. Great for walkers on Hadrians Wall and visitors to The Sill.

Visited for lunch and we were the first ones in the pub. Staff were getting organised, so we sat beside the roaring log burner and warmed ourselves up. A very friendly member of staff brought some drinks to the table and said she would take...our meal order when we were ready. All the other staff who came on duty also greeted us. We were made to feel most welcome. The room was well decorated and comfortable. We ordered sandwiches which arrived with a tasty side salad and crisps. Food was delicious and obviously freshly made. Prices are very reasonable and we left feeling that we had received a lovely Twice Brewed Inn experience. There is a shop next door selling ales etc so we did some purchasing from another friendly member of the team. Looking forward to returning again soon.More

Fantastic pub.. booked for Sunday lunch for 26 people and 4 dogs. The food was excellent and the service was superb, especially Meg who did a fantastic job of looking after us and getting the drinks and food on the table to all so quickly....The rest of Megs team were also extremely helpful. Will definitely return it back in the area, but would certainly recommend this pub for all reasons, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.More

Stopped in for lunch before heading to the Roman museum. 2 adults, 5yr old, 1 yr old and a pug. Fantastic food and great local ales line up. I had the sycamore gap pale ale- gorgeous beer. Staff were super friendly, very welcoming and pub...had a lovely atmosphere. £15-£20 for a main meal. Kids also enjoyed exploring the stream in the beer garden and finding the toman solider. Will be back!! Thanks!More

Great pub, lovely food we booked the bar area for 26 adults and four dogs in advance and the team didn’t disappoint. Special thanks to Meg for organising us all and making sure we had a lovely time. From ordering drinks and food, wasn’t long...before it was on the table. Can thoroughly recommend.More

Shocking meal. The roast beef was tough as old boots. Husband had the Roast Beef sandwich which was impossible to eat. The bun was crumbly and had a very unpleasant taste, the beef was so tough he could not cut it, tear it or chew...through it. Veggies in the party happy with their veg loaf but very small portions. An expensive disappointment for a family get together. Desserts saved the meal from being a total disaster but the portion sizes varied so much it was ridiculous . One of us had large portion of sticky toffee pudding, 2 others were less than half the size. Service was slow and intermittent. So disappointed.More

Such a warm and friendly place and … the food!! Superb portions and the BEST steak pie I’ve ever had!! I might even travel hundreds of miles to go back for that pie; it was that good! I was stranded here for hours waiting for...my family out on a walk and I couldn’t have been happier.More

Stayed at the Twice Brewed Inn as we had booked the stargazing experience (amazing by the way.) The room was small but had everything we needed for a night away. The food was good and the local gin, Sycamore gin, is gorgeous.

This is a great place to visit. We called in for lunch and found a friendly homely atmosphere, which is dog friendly, with excellent food and good staff. Michelle did a great job in helping me follow my gluten free diet. Thanks Michelle.

Walked Hadrian’s Walk with friends a few years ago and was delighted that the company arranging our holiday put us up here for one night. I vowed to return with my family for a longer break and am so glad we did. A stunning location...- just a few minutes walk to the best section of the wall and stunning views. A beautiful beer garden in a quiet location. Well appointed and furnished rooms - yeah ok there’s a bit of noise between them but this is a character property. Plenty of choices on the evening and breakfast menus - plus a cosy bar with their on-site brewed beers on tap. And an exciting stargazing experience on site - staffed by passionate experts. Such a warm welcome and a proper home-from-home. Somewhere I’m already keen to return to again!More
