Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Over a period of 4 days as we’ve had a friend down for a holiday we’ve tried to arrange the ferry to take us from Topsham. We’ve rang several times, filled in their online form. Nobody bothers to phone back or acknowledge. Sadly the Turf...lost business. This isn’t the first time.More

What abysmal service since new owners have taken over. Long wait to order drink and food. Had to change over barrel part way pulling a pint, forgot to give me food that was odered. Then gave me £4 change in 20p and 5p coins like...they just raided the slot machines. The staff seem untrained and have poor customer service skills. Rip off Britain at it's best !!!More

I love this pub! However since the new owners took over they have made some frankly cynical money grubbing changes to the menu and they must be the only pub in the country that charges for dog treats! Yes you read that right Every other...pub I've ever been in that's dog friendly gives away free dog treats Not here 50p for a bonio what the actual Also me andy mate go here regularly for a beer or two or lunch , we have previously enjoyed a great crab sandwich but I was unpleasantly surprised to see it on the menu as a "Devon crab and prawn sandwich" That is not a thing! they have cynically cut the expensive crab with cheap imported prawns to cut costs , about 40% crab 60% prawn we estimate, this is disingenuous and downright dishonest , it implies the prawns are from Devon but I doubt that strongly I suspect they are imported from the far east where they are often produced in terrible conditions by indentured workers that amounts to modern slavery , it's a crying shame as the old owners where decent folk , the new guy is apparently a multi millionaire , I guess you don't get stinking rich by being kind , decent or honest , the pub will do brisk trade because of it's magical location and I'll still go there for a drink but I'd rather eat my own feet than eat there again :(More

What a find! Having to walk is an extra charm too, such a beautiful stroll along the canal path. We had mussels and ploughman's lunch, both lovely. Tiramisu and lemon posset for dessert. Good drinks, nice coffee too and the views are spectacular. We managed...to nab a couple of illusive deck chairs and ended up here for hours. Will 100% be back and make a day of it, maybe jump the ferry to Topsham for a hour! Positives: Charming, picturesque, well kept, good services, nice interior, excellent food, lots of exterior tables, great atmosphere, optional BBQ with vegan options. Seeing others food come out - the burgers and chips looked divine. Negatives: It's pricey, but you kinda expect it. But I guess it's kinda average prices now for pubs and you've got the location. Was a bit disappointed I had quite a few dead mussels in my portion so someone in the kitchen isn't checking them properly but I was full on what I'd had so couldn't grumble too much. Honestly had the perfect end to my week off. I think this has to be one of the best places locally.More

So taken aback to be charged £9.10 for a 175 mls glass of wine . Such a shame , beautiful place but that is very expensive. Will certainly stop me going if that’s what prices are like . Please rethink your pricing . People will...stop visiting .More

First visit under new owners and underwhelming. £30 for 4 drinks - really expensive compared to other local options! Normally go to The Anchor at Cofton which is prettier and less pricey. We wanted a snack but kitchen was shut until 5 on a fairly...busy Easter Saturday. As most people walk/cycle there and it was fairly cold people didn’t want to wait. Disappointing! Will visit for drinks again as we walk that way, But will forget the food as menu looked below average anyway.More

Great location but if you want a relaxed, leisurely meal this is not the place. Our table had a permanent queue of people for the bar beside it. The two waitresses were lovely but rushed off their feet. My partner never got her drink. Vegetables...were great, meat less good. We will come back for the ambience and location, but just for a drink.More

I've been coming to the turf every spring/summer since the 80s. As I live quite locally many friends have worked there and now some of my friends children. The last 2 weeks I've been unfortunate to be served at the bar with a member of...staff with a stinking attitude which has tainted the experience of visiting. When asking if there were lighter meal options I was told no, when later another member of bar staff said I could order a bowl of chips that wasn't on the menu if I liked. Then the next weekend I visited she was very obnoxious when I ordered my food and drink and overhead her being rude to other customers too. All other staff very friendly and helpful however and I won't let it prevent me from returning in thr near future.More

The worst meal to date. We have been many times since the new owners have been on board. Friday night supper clubs plus multiple Sunday lunches, this meal was such a disappointment. We both had the roast beef, on ordering we asked for pink meat...if possible. It was brought out and both our beef was cooked to death and tough. I sent it mine back as my Yorkshire was like concrete too. It was brought back with a new Yorkshire and the same meat. I was advised all of the meat was well done today, so no other option. The whole meal was bland and tasteless, the only thing enjoyable on the plate were the roasties. Such as disappointment all round especially after having great meals previously. We’ll stick to Rob Dawe’s pop ups elsewhere in future, as the rest of the kitchen don’t seem to uphold his standards.More

We don't live too far away from The Turf and it is our go-to place when we have visitors, a nice bike ride, walk or ferry ride to get there. It is a unique place, spectacular views, the service is always very good and friendly....The food is excellent, including the Sunday lunches which we have been for on other occasions (but not this time). It has never let us down, they keep good beers too. It ticks a lot of boxes. Give it a try. AndyMore

We, a party of 8, arrived at a full to bursting pub after a very wet and windy walk to find they hadn’t got our booking. As Londoners we expected the usual “well there’s nothing we can do we’re full” but no we heard “well...let’s see what we can sort out”. Within a short time a table had been prepared and the lovely staff were serving us excellent lunchtime food. Not only were they delightful but one of them even arranged for one of our party’s jacket to be cleaned where he had gently slid over in the mud! Everyone enjoyed their food from the fish and chips to the excellent homemade soup. Well done guys no wonder you’re so busy. We have visited before during the summer and sat outside looking at the beautiful view, what a great pub.More

Went in for a beer and snack after a nearby walk watching many teal, curlews, lapwings, and a pair of marsh harriers. A warm fire, friendly service, a nice pint of lager, and a locally made fantastic pork pie. Very enjoyable.
