The facade is much more interesting and inviting than what you actually find inside. Considering it is a winery we would have liked to have some views, some open space allowing to see the vines other than the little courtyard with one line of vines visible. Boring. Typical New Zealand Spartan furniture - cheap uncomfortable chairs with square tables. No... More

4 of us went to this place for lunch on 12th December 2016. I had read somewhere that the Cafe is in the top 20 winery Cafes/Restaurants in the world. So we had very high expectations. I booked way ahead to avoid disappointment. The ambience is Ok as is service. Not over the top but OK. However, the food is... More

I have no time for cafes and restaurants that willingly turn away customers when they have multiple uncleared tables when they're busy, its just arrogance and poor management of staff. We were told there are no other options in the area and we chose not wait wed end up coming back. The cheek!

Dear thistledoons, We are a very busy destination and we can get stretched at times but our staff do a great job in treating every customer as special and give good service accordingly. We have a good number of young staff so training is important. We also hold regular meetings with all staff to highlight any pluses or minuses that... More

We went here to celebrate family member's birthday. All credit to the Soljan estate the winery and restaurant are very well laid out - so close to main highway but an oasis of calm complete with pétanque court which was being well used by various families. Restaurant service couldn't be faulted - friendly; attentive and matched service to our preferred... More

Dear wellington0nkirby, I was pleased you highlighted the Vintners platter as good value, we get lots of people in that go for this, it has a good selection of finger food to suit most tastes and yes good for more than two people to graize on. As there is a lot of diffent flavours in this so the taste a... More

I went here for breakfast unplanned as I was driving past. Was seated and served a lovely rose and ordered the simple Eggs Benedict. It was served quite prompt and was just so yummy. Fresh and flavorsome. It went really well with the wine. Yes, wine at 9am. Made the day a little sweeter. :-) Lovely grounds and as it... More

Dear mollieb284, I think you had a very good match with the Rose with Eggs Benedict one compliments the other which is great. I was very pleased you found the food flavoursome because that is so important, flavours, ballance and presentation, all go to make the meal enjoyable. I was also pleased to read you also had a look in... More

We booked our work Christmas lunch here as it was on the way to our next destination for the day. I had high hopes as I had driven past before and thought it looked like a nice place to lunch. The Resturant/cafe set up is pretty basic and looks like any function room from the 90's. The serive was ok,... More

Dear MrsL 1973, When writing a review good or bad, detail is very helpful to any venue so they are able to respond correctly. If you found the food disapointing, what did you have and what was disapointing about it. Did you have the buffet or was it off the menu. If we get repeat comments that are negative about... More

The menu was great as was our choice of food and wine, the desserts were amazing with great presentation and lovely strong flavours. The service could not be faulted with prompt attention. We did hear from friends who had dined there several months ago that the service was not great but pleased to report that today it was perfect.

Dear nsbrock, Along with high quality food and wine the other point that is equally important is the service so I was very pleased to read your points on that. We take on a lot of extra staff over summer and it can take a bit of time to get them up to speed but I am very fussy with... More

We went here because we were looking for a winery close to the city while family were visiting. We did a tasting and had lunch. The tasting was reasonable, and some of the wines were very good. The cafe was very disappointing. Some of the food was honestly pretty awful, especially for the price. (The vegetable tart was probably the... More

Soljan's Café is a fairly short drive from west Auckland and we recently had a family get-together there for lunch. The building is in attractive grounds and there is plenty of parking. As we were quite a big group, we opted for $32 set menu but unfortunately the food was a quite disappointing. Lunch started with nice mini loaves of... More
