Decided to treat the gf to a meal out and docked at the Ship, looking forward to its raging open fire and good hospitality. The car park was full so we were expecting a busy pub. So no fire and 4 other people. So we had a pick of the tables, ie the one by the radiator! I was tempted... More

We haven't been to the ship in many years, and we met for lunch with my husbands family. The landlord was very chatty and welcoming. The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious, great portion size, lovely fresh vegetables too, highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

A really fantastic pub with great staff and terrific food. A very welcome roaring fire, tasteful décor and newspapers to read. A lovely bar area too. My fiancé and I were very impressed by the staff. His Sunday roast was excellent and my brie starter, soup of the day and apple cake were all delicious. After a long walk in... More

The owner is lovely and an excellent host and managed our obscure dietary requirements with tact and genuine concern. Lovely setting and delicious food. Sadly the whole experience was overshadowed by the waiter who referred to my friend and I (in our forties) as "my dear", was patronising and aggressive and a little sneering to us both, and finally was... Have been here for 2 lunches and a dinner, the greeting and the service have always been very friendly. I seem to be working my way through the menu which has some good choices, also the specials are somewhat different than other pubs. Only one minor complaint, the last time we had lunch the heating seemed to not be working... More

Arrived for lunch with and 28 Ramblers after a good walk in the area. I sent a message to the pub to say that there would be about 18 staying for lunch plus a couple of drinkers, but somehow the number grew. Nevertheless, we all received a warm welcome and there was just enough space in the cosy pub for... More

Our first meal here in December was good. Tasty soup, good burger and salmon dish. Pleasant staff - I think perhaps the owners (?) were on this particular evening. Everything was enjoyable from the welcoming to the food and the atmosphere. Just as a country pub should be. We enjoyed it enough to return a few weeks later. What a... More

In an idyllic village on a river, this pub is very special. The landlord is very welcoming, beers excellent and a roraing fire in winter completes the picture.

Description
Following reopening the pub has now been restored to its former glory of many years ago before closure. A complete and thorough tasteful refurbishment inside and out retaining the original character of the building and returning it to its rightful place as the village pub. The wonderfull but neglected garden is now a delight for all featuring fabulous flower displays, a well stocked waterfall fed pond leading down to the mill stream at the bottom of the garden. A quintessential english pub with local beers, renowned wines and spirits and of course food produced from fresh local produce and all prepared to order - a rarity in todays world.
