The Fur & Feather
Review
About
The Fur and Feather is Woodforde’s very own brewery tap, where the beer travels metres, not miles. We are within the brewery grounds inside you will find a wide range of our core and seasonal beers on draught and sensational food, which changes with the seasons. We are open for teas and coffees from 10am Monday to Saturday and serving good, home cooked food from 12:00 daily. Food is served all day and there is a brewery shop for take-home packaged beer, brewery merchandise and gifts. Our popular brewery tours require an advanced booking. This can be done online.

This place is pretty close to home and is a great looking pub with plenty of seating outside and in, the carpark is good with enough room.
Sadly that's about the only good points of the visit, the young lady behind the bar was helpful enough but it's a little disappointing when you arrive with the wife and ask if you can sit outside to enjoy the sun and to be told you have to order and pay at the bar....it's not a Weatherspoons .....we came for a restaurant experience...
So we arrive bang on time, order some drinks...pay for them...then go sit out in the sunshine and decide what we are having, go back in order our food and go back outside.
By 8:30 the sun has about gone down and 45 minutes after ordering our food still isn't here, not happy but it's not the end of the world. I'm at a loss to understand why there is such a delay as less than half the tables inside were occupied and I'd say 85% of the outside tables were empty.
Eventually about 8:45 my wife's food arrived and two side plates....nothing to eat it with mind and after sitting looking at it for about five minutes my wife went inside and collected her own condiments and cutlery
..still no sign of my meal.. eventually it arrived and was pretty underwhelming...yes the Pizza had plenty of topping on but I've bought pizza from a supermarket that had more flavour and appeal.
My wife's Ribeye steak was ok ish but after it arrived and Looking at the plain salad garnish, and chips I would certainly not be paying £28 for that again. I could be wrong but I'm sure the menu said it would have Onion rings with it but they were absent.
All said and done we won't be returning despite it being relatively close to home, it is a very disappointing dining experience the staff are ok but have little or no interaction with you. The food is genuinely nothing special, I cook and present better food at home.
Shame really because this place has so many good points , location the building it'self is beautiful it's just badly let down by the quality of the food and the service.
We were very much looking forward to a quiet meal just me and the wife and sadly it was not the evening we would have liked.

Before I write my review I have to say that it is about a visit on Boxing Day and I fully appreciate the bar staff who were there to serve us.
This is one of three "must visit" pubs when I visit Broadland.
We look forward to a boat trip to Salhouse Broad followed by the 20 minute walk to this warm and (usually), welcoming pub. Being attached to the Woodforde's Brewery, I can be assured of enjoying a good pint of one of their excellent ales or beers.
Braving the dull, chilly and damp conditions we took the dayboat(which came with our holiday home) down river and moored at Salhouse Broad.
Imagine our disappointment to find every table reserved for diners. Fairly predictable and I had considered booking but I suspected bookings would be for diners only, despite there being a large restaurant area.
After first being told "No walk-ins today," in a none too friendly way, I explained our party of 6 only wanted drinks, crisps and nuts and wouldn't be there much above an hour, we weren't ejected from the premises and a kindly elderly gentleman enjoying a sofa near the Brewery "sales" area said there was now a table there. This accommodated 5 and I took the easy chair opposite, so we were able to enjoy our Boxing Day tipples before walking back for 20 minutes and enjoying the boat ride back before dusk.
Throughout the time we were there many of the tables in the bar remained empty!!!
Having worked over the Christmas period, on many occasions, I appreciate people who give up their "holiday" periods, often without extra pay, and as such make a point of being patient and polite. However, one would have expected a pub attached to a Brewery (in such a way that the draught beer is from barrels stored therein) would be glad of wet sales year round.
Nevertheless it won't stop me aiming to visit whenever possible. Highly recommended.

We came into the fur and feather as we had seen the Friday fish and chips deal advertised on there website for only £25 for a platter for two people. The fish goujons were very good, as were the mini sausage bites, scampi and chips. The curry sauce was cold.
Ufortunately the fish fondue was dry with some sort of crushed peas on top...
we were also meant to have fish cakes on the platter but they didn't have any , we were told this after our food came out and I questioned it. They were replaced with crab cakes but they came out really soggy.
I have had the normal fish and chips from here and it was so good, so will stick to that in the future

Had to wait approximately an hour from ordering to receipt of food, while other tables had already been served ahead of us.I would say that the restaurant was no more than half full, making it difficult to justify such an inordinate delay.
When my Yorkie with beef arrived it was smothered with gravy, even though I had specifically requested it to be served separately. When returned after my complaint, there was still more than sufficient gravy on it for my needs.
I then found the diced beef to be virtually unchewable although fully cooked, and I could hardly cut the supposedly tenderstems of the broccoli. When I again complained, they offered to change it, but I was by then so hungry that I just said I would eat of much of it as I could.
On receiving the bill I protested that my meal wasn't worth paying for, but was told that they could only offer me 10% discount. I made it clear I was dissatisfied and would never be returning.

In 2022 I went to the Fur & Feather and having ordered and been provided with drinks were told that the kitchen was closed. I said I would not go again.
Much against my better judgment, I went again yesterday as friends were camping nearby invited us.
At least this time the kitchen was open, but the good stops there, the prices for what was served was way inflated for food that was only average. The furniture in the bar area was cafe style and old and much to close together giving no room to move.
For the prices paid I would expect much more.
I will not be tempted there again.

What an absolute disgrace of an establishment. Booking system not working so rang to see if food was being served until 6pm as advertised on their web page. Was told yes. Arrived at 4.15pm and the people on the next table checked food served until 6pm and was told yes, went in to order at 4.45pm and was told no food being served to walk ins as they had run out of food! People that had booked had a full menu offered to them although the Sunday roast had been fully sold. We explained to the manager we were visitors on a boat and there are no alternatives or local shops to purchase food to be told sorry we have nothing left. Not even bread to make a sandwich or a portion of chips 🍟 no nothing left. Locals telling us they have trouble with holding onto staff and I’m not surprised. My husband always feels sorry for pubs that close down but if this is the type of establishment then you deserve to go bust. You might brew good beer but your pub is a terrible advertisement for you and if that is your example of Norfolk hospitality you can keep it.

Very strange food. I had a chicken satay which was chicken bits lying on peanut butter. But the plate was cold, so the peanut butter was cold, so it was disappointing. My wife had bruschetta, which has so much sun-dried tomato to be inadable. My main was fish and chips. The mush peas has so much mint, they tasted of toothpaste. The tartar sauce was mixed with fruit, which was odd, and the fish was covered in a thick batter, so the outside was brown and overcooked, with the fish inside almost raw. Frankly it turned my stomach and I could not eat any of it. This upset my wife who wanted a nice meal, so we left in tears vowing never to return.

Sadly it was an awful experience. Having visited once before (a few years ago) I was happy to come back with my elderly parents. It was a warm summer evening and the garden was quite busy. We opted to sit in the restaurant and 45 minutes after our order was taken, I enquired as to where our food was. When it eventually arrived, two of the three meals were inedible- one ribeye steak was seriously overcooked and the burger was burnt black under the bun. When I discussed this with the manager, I was told it was because they were busy with short staff in the kitchen.
The manager removed the cost of all 3 meals from our bill so did as much as she could to rectify a situation but by that point the evening was already ruined.
I would not recommend visiting this (or any) restaurant that lets its food standards slip so badly because of a busy period!

The Fur and Feathers is a classic country pub attached to the Woodforde brewery. Maintaining the best of a real pub atmosphere and a beautifully set up dining room , the staff welcome is warm and friendly. The selection of ales is outstanding with pumped and cask options of many of the beers. All of our food was very tasty and the selection was varied. We would highly recommend a visit , especially as there is a 10% discount in the attached brewery shop.

Whilst the food was tasty enough service was very slow despite us booking in advance. Staff pleasant enough but we were not offered any condiments with our food and slow to approach us after main meal to clear away dishes and offer desert menu. Music in place was good and pleasant atmosphere

I booked and chose the venue for our family Christmas get together of 14 people.
Table was booked for 7.00….. The food was PRE-ORDERED!!!
We ordered drinks, it was 40 minutes before the drinks came out, it took an hour for the PRE-ORDERED food to be served.
After the food was brought out, we’re just forgotten about, we wanted to order more drinks, but I literally couldn’t find anyone to ask.
I had to go up to the bar to ask if we could possibly order a dessert.
The food is very average, yet hugely overpriced, the desserts were discussing, cold and tasteless.
There was no music, no atmosphere and the staff (what few there were) were completely joyless.
The communication was poor, when I booked, they booked us in on the wrong date.
I specifically asked when I preordered our food if they needed our side orders and was told the didn’t, when we got there we were told we couldn’t have any side orders.
We did get a free drink, but 1 person was left out.
It was dreadful evening, I literally have nothing good to say, I’m wondering why we paid £320 for this shambolic evening, they clearly can’t cope with a larger party of people.
If you are booked in for you Christmas dinner, I’d rethink if I were you, maybe go to a Wetherspoon instead!!!!

I haven’t been to the F&F for quite a few years, but when friends said could we meet up as they were staying in Ludham for a few days, the pub immediately sprang to mind, so I booked. We went for Sunday lunch, it was busy but not crowded. My friend and I both went for Roast beef and her husband ordered the special of gammon and egg. He was assured that this came with chips. After quite a long wait, in excess of 30 minutes, the roasts arrived. The gammon minus the egg then arrived but was a complete roast dinner, not what was ordered. The waitress agreed that he had ordered the special so took it away, so another delay before his egg gammon and chips arrived. The roasts were okay but overcooked brittle yorkshires and only one slice of meat, although the veg was cooked nicely. We decided to order dessert later and my friend ordered the cheesecake and her husband and I ordered lemon Meringue pie with raspberry couli and ice cream. The waitress then came back with ‘sorry but no more cheesecake’. When the lemon meringue pies arrived it was a shop bought small round lemon tarte with a sprinkling of crushed meringue nest next to it and ice cream . No couli and certainly no topping of meringue. The lemon was not curd and was very chewy. What has gone wrong at the F&F. Sunday lunch spoiled and me upset that my friends spent money on a meal with so many errors. I expect far better especially at their prices.

The food was really nice, we arrived at around 12 and it wasn’t busy, it took about 10 minutes for our drinks to be brought to our table after one of the waitresses said it was table service , the staff weren’t very polite and the service was poor. After finished eating we were sat with our plates for 15 minutes whilst the waitresses were stood at the bar talking about how ridiculous it is that they need to pay for food now, personally i don’t think customers need to here what’s going on in there business. We were given a dessert menu once our plates were finally cleared and the waitress said she would come over and take our order, whilst the waitresses still stood at the bar talking we had to wait a further 20/30 minutes before a waitress came over to take our dessert order. The waitresses didn’t come over to clear our glasses or ask if we would like any other drinks, overall i think the service was shockingly bad, i am really disappointed about this.

Oh dear, we waited 20 mins to get a round of drinks a further 45 mins to order food and a further again 35 mins for the food to arrive. Staff uninterested, food very mediocre. Beer good, new management required it seems. Shame as it’s a nice looking gaff

Visited with family and booked online. The pub is very pretty. The welcome was great and the service at the bar was good. We were shown to our table where we ordered food. The food was very average at best. The service was slack.
When our mains were served we had to ask and wait on cutlery that had not been replaced from the starters. The server knocked my sons knife and fork to the floor and picked these up and gave them back to him to eat with. When the desserts were served we had to wait again for cutlery. The drink we ordered when our meals were served had not arrived when we had finished, clearly they just forgot as when prompted she said it was on the way it was the wrong drink and she needed to be corrected.
The seafood platter was ok but somewhat underwhelming. The Cajun chicken burger which claimed to be a chicken breast must have come from an anorexic chicken as it was about 0.5cm thick. Nothing was unpleasant just average food all somewhat overpriced.
As such given the choice of great country pubs I would recommend for a stop to sample the beers but would say to go somewhere else for food. Oh and the toilets are an absolute disgrace. Unclean, over flowing bins and toilet roll holders held together with food best before stamps.
We were asked on paying if everything had been good. I replied it has been “just alright” she chose to not speak to me further about this and processed my payment.
