I've had Sunday lunch at The Blue Bell 3 times, loved it so much I took my Mum! This was probably 6 to 12 months ago. They'd introduced a new gravy, which was absolutely beautiful! Everything was faultless, and the cauliflower cheese was the best...I'd ever had. However, we went last month and it was decidedly average! What's happened?? I have to say it's put me off going back.More

Booked a table for 9:30pm this evening and as per the booking policy we were running 10 mins late so called at 8:56 and were told it was ok, they would keep the table. Arrived at 9:40pm and was met at the till by a...slim ginger guy with a beard, chest puffed out demonstrating aggressive behaviour to be told it was closed and we couldn’t be served. Bearing in mind the advertised opening hours are until 12pm we found the experience very intimidating and were told our card would be charged. A really poor experience.More

Good evening. To whom it may concern, my family booked at table at The Bluebell in Rothley for Christmas Day dinner. We booked & paid for the table in September, both within a reasonable timeframe. We arrived at the pub on Christmas Day, we waited...at the bar to be seated. Two members of staff came into the bar area & pulled together two tables, both were dirty & had crisp packets & empty glasses on them. The tables were pulled together, wiped down & our cutlery later put on the table with some crackers. Upon overseeing this a member of staff advised us this was our table, in the entrance of the pub where customers were having their drinks & in a draft with the front door being opened & closed. We sat at the table & realised that the seating wasn’t correct as there was only space for five people however our booking was for 7, this was corrected. Understandably so, we wasn’t at all impressed with a) the fact that our table was not even set until after our arrival, furthermore we were situated in the bar area with customers frequently coming & going. We made the manager on shift aware of this (Rhys), he responded (there was nothing he could do as that’s what the system had generated, his response was simply unacceptable & rude. Our started arrived at our table around 15:30, all of which my party could not fault however the soup was brought out to us with a desert spoon, not a soup spoon & no condiments on the table as a result of our table being hastily put together. However, our main courses arrived at our table, the steaks were fresh as they had just been cooked however everything else that was brought out was hard & stale, as though it had been sat under a heat lamp for a long period of time, it wasn’t at all fresh, so much so that the gravy had skin on it! We asked for more cutlery to be brought to our table as this was used with our starters, this was chucked in the middle of the table by your staff! I later asked to speak with the acting manager in charge which was Rhys. I asked him how I proceeded with getting a refund for our food & visit & listed the reasons outlined above. Rhys advised me that he would process my refund however I would have to leave straight after & barred us after my complaint was made. This was quite upsetting as this isn’t common practice when a customer makes a complaint with regards to their food & their overall visit! I understand that the pubs acting manager was also in the pub on Christmas, she wasn’t working, I believe she is currently on maternity leave however her mannerisms were utterly disgraceful, she told one of my party members to ‘f**k off’ out the pub! I understand that emotions can be heightened at times however this is unacceptable especially given the fact that the two members of staff are on the front line of dealing with customers. I’m sure you can appreciate, we spent nearly £500 for our family to attend your pub for Christmas dinner & to be spoken to/ treated in this manner in unacceptable! Had the Bluebell have contacted us & asked where we would like to be seated due to the restaurant area being full, we would have cancelled the booking as we do not wish to sit in a bar on Christmas Day let alone be sat at a table where the furnishings were ripped & table settings hastily chucked together by your staff! We understand that Christmas Day is very busy with bookings & this was your first year hosting the day, we by no means expected the meal to be perfect however this was nowhere near perfect. Along with your hostile/ rude staff/ poor service & poor food, the blue bell ruinded not only mine but my families day! It’s apparent to me after our visit that your management team need further educating on how to deal with complaints in an empathetic/ understanding/ caring manner instead of diminishing how a paying customer feels! I felt the urge to bring this to your attention, not only for my own experience but for other paying customers that may need to complain in the future, I’m fearful they may be treated with the same disrespect we were!More

We visited for lunch on 3.12.23. Credit where it is due, the pub and Christmas decorations looked great. Classic Christmas songs were being played. Overall the ambience was pleasant and relaxing. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. For our mains I had the...pork belly roast, and my partner had the chicken burger. Both were delicious and we were very satisfied. I would certainly recommend those dishes. We decided to share a pudding and ordered the fruit crumble. Sadly, it was 99% fruit and a dusting of crumble. We found it inedible and sent it back. The waiter kindly deducted it from the bill. I have been here before and the food then was great. The crumble was a blip and something easily fixed. I will visit again, but no crumble next time.More

Great atmosphere and lovely staff but that’s about it. The food was very poor. I ordered the crispy squid starter for around £7.00 and was surprised to receive 5 small bits thrown onto some lettuce. They tasted very nice with the accompanying sauce but such...a shock portion wise and presentation. I mentioned it to our server and she said other people had complained about the same thing before but the management won’t do anything about it. The chicken I had for my main course was dry and obviously microwaved. The whole meal was just average, something I could cook at home, and overpriced. My boyfriend was going to have the lamb shanks but decided against it at over £31.00! A bit much for a country pub. He had ham, egg and chips which were very over cooked. A massive disappointment for somewhere with such potential. It’s changed hands recently and the quality has declined significantly. Our server said she’d mentioned my complaints to the manager (who’d just returned to the pub but was off duty). She said the best thing to do was to write an email and that he was expecting my email. I’m still waiting for a response 5 days later. I was willing to give the place another try but I won’t bother now.More

No complaints about service, the menu or the way the food was cooked and served. So why the average rating? Purely due to the cost of drinks and some of the food. £7.85 for a glass of wine, fish pie at £18.75 and £3.40 for...an expresso. This is a pub, a nice one but not exceptional. I would happily return here but can get much better value elsewhere for these prices. The pub was fairly empty on a Wednesday evening.........I wonder why?More

Gone downhill! We returned after a great experience a couple of years ago only to be disappointed. We showed the waiter the two course/three course set price menu advertised online only to be told it was no longer available. The Camembert starter ordered arrived cold...and had to be sent back. The roast was average and the Yorkshire pudding was quite literally a slice of raw batter and inedible. Unfortunately we won’t be returning, especially considering the prices are high.More

On arrival we were shown to our table promptly. It was 6:30 on a Saturday night so not too busy. Drinks were ok but my beer went flat very quickly! I had a pie and my wife chicken which were both very nice. Service was...not quick but not slow. The Bread and butter pudding we ordered for dessert was awful. I don't know where the chef got their recipe from but I have never had such a dry pudding before. The bread seemed to be straight from the packet with the crusts cut off. Not going back any time soon.More

The only way to describe it is truly awful. We went for a Sunday lunch with family and had the worst experience. No one came to take our drinks order so had to go to find a staff member, then no one came to take...the food order so again had to go find a member of staff. We all ordered Sunday roasts, waited 50 minutes for it to arrive and then when it did it was the most appalling dinner. There was barely any meant on the plate, one roast potato which couldn't be cut through as it was so raw and one raw carrot, the Yorkshire was a slice of batter quite literally. After complaining and asking for the manager they never came over so we ended up leaving. Never ever will be go back here, really awful service and food. Pub is also extremely run down and not nice/clean at all.More

Food was ok when it eventually arrived (over an hour). The cause seemed to be the large party of 20 people with children that were booked in. This party had a negative effect on the atmosphere (children running around) as well as the speed of...service. The chairs on our table were ripped, torn and stained, the men's toilet was out of order. Hadn't visited for a couple of years (we're local) and won't ever be visiting again.More

Disappointing. The service is virtually non-existent. Long wait for food. No check back to see if everything was OK. No one came and asked if we wanted more drinks. No one asked if we wanted desserts. Food arrived with no cutlery. Food was OK -...on the expensive side. Staff appeared to not care less about serving customers.More
