Day started dull so a walk to Thorpeness was in order. Came across the Dolphin and so glad we did. Fabulous pub inside and out. Staff excellent, all knowledgable and well presented. Menu varied and many items that got the tastebuds going. My friend and I had the daily special, Beefburger with fries, amazing. The men had a chicken dish... More

As we have a holiday home in Leiston, we tend to visit throughout the year, and walk to Aldeburgh quite a lot from Thorpeness (or vice versa). Stopped off at The Dolphin every time we're in Suffolk and it's always been amazing! Me and my mum popped in for a pint and some lunch on a walk from Aldeburgh; the... More

Have always in the past been very impressed with the Dolphin, the menu always had innovative and interesting choices and we have always been greeted and served by efficient friendly staff. How times have changed! We were told by the waitress that there had been a new menu for the last two weeks. Our copy of which, was old stained... More

We had the roast and crumble combo for 14.95. Delicious roast beef. Good varied menu beyond the roast and children very well catered for. Highly recommended. Gets busy so ring ahead to book for Sunday lunch. A number of tables in and outside.

Came here with the family - 16 of us. We'd been asked to pre-order our mains to help with logistics. No problem. Staff attentive and helpful. Food was very good - clean plates all round.

Walked in for a beer and realized no seats at the bar. Bartender wasn't friendly and he hardly looked up to acknowledge our being there. I get that food is what drives sales these days but didn't appreciate the service at all. Unfortunately will not go back. Much better pubs in other villages.

We have been to The Dolphin at Thorpeness many times and it delivers great food and value for money. This evening the four of us went for the Steak special offer which was rib eye steak salad and chips plus beer or wine for £36 for two people. The steak was locally sourced and absolutely delicious cooked just the way... More

The Dolphin, now the hub of the community, is an ideal resting base to explore Thorpeness and our neighbouring towns Aldeburgh and Southwold, or just enjoy a peaceful walk around Snape Maltings and RSPB Minsmere reserve plus many more local must sees. A short stroll takes you to miles of unspoilt Suffolk Heritage coast and the very popular Mear, a boating lake which is on our doorstep and just up the road - The House in the Clouds.
The Head chef is passionate about local produce and the kitchen not only creates a daily changing menu for the restaurant using some of the best local producers but makes and supplies Thorpeness Village store, attached to the Dolphin Inn, with chutneys, jams, pies and pastries. As a free house the bar dispenses award winning real ales all sourced locally from independent producers including Adnams, Brandon brewery and Woodfords. We have developed an excellent wine list with wines sourced from some of the best cellars around the world featuring alongside a large selection of bourbons, single malts and port. A roaring log fire in the winter, a huge garden with barbecues in the summer and well appointed four star en-suite bedrooms, this is a genuine pub where you can expect great food and great beer served in a warm friendly environment.
