Six friends booked in for Fish Friday and we were not disappointed! The fish was very well cooked and presented and represented good value for the amount that we had. The beers were also good.

We have been twice to the Rose & Crown recently for meals, first for Fish & Chips on a Friday then for Sunday Roast Dinner. Both were excellent - if I had to choose then I would say that the chicken parcel on Sunday was...just my favourite. Good beers and excellent service as well!More
First time visit and now it will not be the last. On arrival a friendly warm welcome, made to feel relaxed and comfortable. Had the Sunday Roast cooked to perfection. It was like a well oiled machine the service from start to finish was first...class well done everyone. And a Big thank youMore
My friend and I had just completed a 25 kilometre walk along the Pilgrim's Way and were meeting two friends here for birthday drinks (it was his 50th birthday...) and to watch the rugby - England v Italy. Unfortunately, being tired and in need of...a drink, I forgot to put on my facemask before I walked in.... As we walked in there was was a huge, angry shout of "Maaaask!!!" from what I assume were regulars watching the rugby. I was also in the way of the television screen, so I ducked into an alcove near the bar. In the meantime, the landlord(?) had rushed round the bar to confront us. "Didn't you hear them?" he asked aggressively. I said that I had, but that I thought the way they had reacted was aggressive. He then started getting angry and raising his voice, talking about "rules" and "regulations". He came quite close to us. I then asked him to stop being aggressive. He then told us to leave and went away. I turned round and spotted our friends on the other side of the bar, which was (perhaps unsurprisingly) deserted. They were drinking a bottle of wine that they had been allowed to buy. We went over to update them of the situation. The landlady(?) then came over and, quite politely, explained that they wouldn't be serving us. She said that they had had "lots of trouble from people not doing what they were told". My friend apologise profusely (I thought) , but this was not accepted by the landlord, who stayed behind the bar. After a few moments we made to leave and passed the group of regulars. One customer said something to me as I left, but I couldn't make it out clearly. My three friends were following. As they passed, several customers said"f^ck off, you tw@ts!", "Get out!", "Go on, get out!" and one laughed: "you won't be coming back here again!" I was relieved to get out, truth be told. No doubt, the landlord might say that if I had worn a facemask upon entry, none of this would have happened. Maybe. However, for him to have created such a hostile and aggressive atmosphere is, in my view, unacceptable.More
Since the pub has reopened after the Covid lockdown my wife and I have been very impressed by the hygiene measures introduced by John & Karen. Only two Real Ales have been on thus far but they have been kept in excellent condition.
We were busy at home and did not have time to cook so popped over to the Rose for a Friday lunch. Being a Friday my wife went for fish but I chose to have the sausage and onion sandwich. Both were very good and...reasonably priced. The beer was good as well!More
We came on sunday for a family gathering . There was 13 of us and we all chose the roast . Everything was faultless from the hosts to the food . We have chosen to come here several times now due to family berievments and...they have hosted our wakes and anniversaries. A real traditional pub that my father would of approved of and he was a fussy old git . So a big thankyou to you allMore
We live fairly locally but had not eaten here before. We ordered 3 Sunday roasts, a fish and chips, a burger and a kids sausage and mash. The food was fabulous. Could not fault the size of the portions or the quality. The meat and...gravy were delicious and the veg was beautifully cooked. The fish and chips was enormous and looked great too. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and would definitely recommend. We had to wait a bit for the food to arrive but as it was a lazy Sunday for us it didn't matter and the food was well worth the wait. It was great to see this place so busy. Definitely a testament to the food served.More
Our booking was 1445 we arrived a few minutes late but not to worry the food was delayed. When it arrived my partners was lovely a good portion and she enjoyed it. Mine sadly had unwanted gravy and wasn't the rare beef I asked for....They managed to sort me out fish and chips the chips were hot and well cooked the fish batter was nice but the fish itself was a bit overcooked. To the places credit staff were lovely and really helpful (Not the man who insisted on standing blocking our view of the rugby despite it being pointed out to him that he was in the way) the gentleman behind the bar was really nice and refused to let us pay anything for my lunch. It would be very easy to write a nasty review based on my experience, but no one us perfect and they are nice people and recognised and apologised for their failings with good humour too.More
Had a lovely drink here as part of our Sunday walk. We were welcomed by the pleasant landlord, and sat in the window seat taking in the glorious atmosphere. A great pub, serving a good food and drink selection. Highly recommended!
Very rude owner, awful costumer service. Will not be recommending and will certainly not be returning.
Play backgammon with mate in nice cosy pub with great service highly recommend. Good choice of beers and food.
Thanks to all concerned for an enjoyable lunch time visit yesterday. All 10 of us (plus dog) enjoyed good food and excellent hospitality from pub staff. As it is midway (almost) between relations based at Maidstone and Orpington it is likely that we will return.
Enjoyed a wonderful festive Christmas visit. There were 7 of us. Had a really lovely lunch, the pie and mash was delicious, my friends had the fish and chips, scampi and chips, omelette and salad. Everyone said their food was great! Not too expensive either....Well worth a visit. Lovely pub!More
