Frankly I didn't have high expectations as the meal here was included in the price of a coach trip but after waiting for some time, the fish and chip meal I ordered was of both good quality and enjoyable, with a nicely cooked portion and...chunky chips. The only note of contention was the wait that some of us had to endure as clearly the kitchen wasn't equipped to cater for a party of 50, meaning that some tables had to wait for over an hour to be served. Those served later had to rush their meals to meet the departure deadline. I should add that there was good, attentive service from the staff though.More

Lovely large beer garden, most useful during these times, and good bar food. Excellent choice of ale too!

We drive through Hadleigh this week and stopped To find somewhere to eat. We chose the George because of the nice patio. The patio was lovely. The food was terrible! I had nachos for one. I wasn’t expecting anything fancy because of the price. I...was expecting what was described, nacho chips, sour cream, salsa and guacamole. The guacamole must have been only 5% avocado. It was awful, I finally clued in that it must be the squeezy, shelf stable kind you get in the grocery store. I ate what I could around it, leaving at least half in the bowl. My husband had a chicken and mushroom which was dried out and tough in parts cooked in and served with beef gravy which seemed weird. It had a pastry top which appeared to be reheated in the microwave and it was not crispy or flaky, but soft. He left a large portion of pie left. When we asked for the bill we weren’t asked how our food was, and basically had the card machine waved at me. I generally try to steer away from chain pubs, and this really reinforced that choice. If you choose to go, go for the patio and you get what you pay for!!More

The sort of meal you expect in an English pub whilst sitting in the beer garden. Pleasant, eatable and with chips. Staff very friendly and polite.

Five of us in our party, I ordered the only vegetarian option on the menu and they didn't have it so I ordered fish peas and chips as did the other four and we had to wait 45 mins then when it came two of...the fish was burnt enough to make it in edible and only one was cooked correctly.More

We always enjoy an evening in the beer garden at the back of the George. It's got a really nice atmosphere and the heaters are great on a slightly chilly evening. The staff are very friendly and the food is great, particularly the fish and...chips and the steak and ale pie.More

Although the weather was rainy and cold, there are sheltered tables in the courtyard with heaters, which can be booked in advance. The staff are friendly and efficient, the food is delicious and no too pricey.

Our first outdoor meal with family was excellent. We were warmly welcomed by Jane who explained the Covid measures. Our table outside was in a separate booth so we felt secure and more private. There was even a wall heater for us to operate if...needed. So we were warm, comfortable and relaxed. There was an excellent choice of food for both vegetarian and non vegetarians. My choice of mushroom and spinach lasagne was soooooo delicious and the rest of our group thoroughly enjoyed their food too. We chatted to other staff members too but our main contact was Jane who was very friendly and attentive.More

I visited the george with some friends about a week ago for some nibbles. Food service was slow and the food was barely edible. Very dissapointed indeed. A member of staff then went on to tell me that since the head chef left back in...february or march all they are getting are complaints. Not sure why she told me this.More
