Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First off, we ate in the restaurant on the 10th May and the food was ok. Can’t really fault it but it wasn’t anything special and the whole menu is overpriced due to being the only place to eat for miles around. That’s the good...stuff! When I arrived it was in advance of friends who were hiking, we were camping and I was there earlier in the day to set up camp and get us registered in. On arrival I was completely ignored by at least 5 staff, no one ask what I needed, was I booking in or if I was ordering food. A staff member literally walked out looked at me picked up a sandwich and walked off. It took 10 minutes in the end to be acknowledged!! The staff member I managed to collar to help showed me around and told me where to camp etc. so all fine. He also advised that Breakfast was from 7:30 and his words “cost about tenner”. My friends arrived later that afternoon and the camp was all good and we had the average meal in the evening. Come the morning we turn up for breakfast and are told, “no you can’t have breakfast as you don’t have a ticket” The Manager, staff member or whatever she was without fail the worst client facing staff member I have ever come across. Sarcastic, rude and arrogance beyond belief. She berated my friend in front of other guests that were eating breakfast at the time with absolutely no regard for the fact that we were also guests! She couldn’t wait to tell us that because we were only camping we weren’t entitled to any service because they were short staffed. We offered to pay for a full English breakfast but only have the continental, that way we could help ourselves and not need service, but no, this low level poor excuse for a customer service rep wasn’t having it. At no point were myself or my friends rude to her, we were calm and asking for options but she gave none other than to turn her back on us walk away. Fortunately, a couple of really nice families that were staying in the hotel and having breakfast at the time had seen how poorly she had handled the situation, and thanks to them they brought us out some food. We were 8 days into a charity walk, and to that point had received nothing but politeness and help on a scale that the north is legendary for. The Lion Inn Blakey Ridge with its poor customer service, over priced average food and terrible staff can afford to have all these poor qualities because it’s the only place around for miles! In the end we got to have breakfast through the kind thoughts of other guests and not the staff of the Lion Inn! Note to the poor excuse of a Manager or whatever you’re role was, if you want to carry on doing your job go on a customer relationship course, it will be of massive benefit to you. Lion Inn Blakey Ridge, if you don’t want Hikers to camp at your site don’t advertise it, and certainly don’t let your sub standard staff look down on hikers/campers when they do use your site. Also teach you’re staff that it’s economically better to take £30 for 3 continental breakfasts than to treat us like vermin.More

Never had a bad meal here and the staff are always lovely. The Inn was built in the 1500s and I just love old feel of the place and the unique layout- the way all the little rooms lead into each other. There’s always a...cosy atmosphere and a little corner to sit in. If you’re looking for pub food, done very well in a gorgeous setting, right on top of the moor, you won’t go wrong with the Lion. If you’re visiting the area and unsure where to eat, this is a great place that always hits the spot. Interestingly it’s the 4th highest pub in England and the second highest in Yorkshire (after Tan Hill) which adds a bit of interest for visitors. I have a real soft spot for this isolated little inn on top of the moor and really would recommend a visit for newcomers to the area. Tips if you’re visiting for the first time; - A lot of the comments here mention huge portion sizes and they really aren’t exaggerating. The portions are simply huge, even the plates they are served on are bigger than normal dinner plates, so make sure you’re hungry. We made the mistake of getting a starter each once and barely managed a few bites of our main, we always share a starter these days if we get one. -Food often takes up to an hour to arrive, especially on busy nights.More

Visited on bank holiday Monday, and we always wonder why we leave it so long between visits. Good quality food, excellent menu. Both children loved their meals, great atmosphere inside of the pub, staff excellent, overall we had a lovely lunch!

We drove up & the car park was full, overflow car park was starting to fear the worst. It was very busy, but we managed to find a table, I was told the wait for food was 30 minutes, considering how busy it was I...thought that was really good, we ordered 2 pork roasts & the food was with us within 15 minutes at the most. The food was excellent! A big pub that swallowed up load of people with ease, great service, friendly customers, dog friendly & in a really nice old building.More

What a lovely friendly place. We passed by the day before and thought “how does that place survive all the way out here”. The next day we decided to venture back and try out for lunch - first checking dogs were allowed. We set off...thinking we would be the only customers. How wrong could we have been. The car park was busy and on entering the pub was buzzing with customers. We had a table by the bar with our two dogs. Deciding on having a sandwich for main, we thought it ok to have a starter. Beware the portions! I had mozzarella sticks with chilli sauce - absolutely delicious. Husband had mushrooms with ciabatta - he is still raving about it. Our sandwiches arrived. OMG they should be described as a roast dinner in a sandwich. I had hot beef, my husband hot pork. Both come with chips/side salad and gravy. Needless to say our eyes had been bigger than our bellies and we were provided with takeaway boxes. Service was exceptionally friendly and efficient and landlady more than happy to stop and chat even though pub was full - but all the time keeping track of customers and service. My husband rated The Lion as the best pub he has been in - he is 74 so has been to a few! If we are ever back that way again we will certainly return - perhaps even staying as accommodation is also available.More

Another wonderful stay at the Lion. Friendly and efficient staff, a welcome roaring fire after walking the 12 mile Rosedale loop, pints of Old Rosie and enormous portions of delicious food. We both had deep fried Brie, then a huge piece of duck in orange...sauce and a proper steak and ale pie (large chunks of steak and short crust pastry top and bottom not a puff pastry lid as you often get). I barely managed the Jam Roly Poly for dessert which was delicious. Comfortable room and a large full English breakfast completed a great stay.More

Excellent meal very large portions cooked to perfection and the room we stayed overnight in was spotlessly clean. Slightly dissapointed with the hard poached eggs with breakfast but everything else was delicious.

A lovely atmosphere in an old 16th century inn. A broad menu. The food was excellent with enormous portions; maybe a little too large! The staff were friendly and attentive. There was no music - what a joy, just quiet conversation. I would happily return...to the Lion.More
