We've neglected The Blacksmiths' Arms over recent years and was attracted by the extension of the EOtoHO initiative. I have to say, after this experience, and especially as we live so close by in Moortown, we'll be returning on a regular basis. First, the restaurant has mastered the Covid restrictions and we felt safe in a hygienic environment. Normally, I have great doubts about young wait staff as they're more interested in socialising than serving customers, but these four, two young men, two young women were exceptional in terms of their service. To the food, I ordered the king prawn and chilli pasta while my wife ordered the prawn cocktail starter upgraded to a main. My prawn dish was delicious, at the perfect level of spice for me, but I have to confess to food envy when my wife's plate was presented. Wow, prawns in a Marie Rose sauce, on a bed of delicious summer salad, and a large helping of warm bread on the side. We have booked again for next week as it was so good. Well done kitchen and wait staff.

Having been out walking on xmas eve with the family and dog, we ventured into the Blacksmiths on the off chance to see if they had a table for lunch. It was our first time and we were not overly hopeful due to xmas parties/meals etc and not having booked. As soon as we walked in however, we were greeted warmly and offered a table where customer service from then on was fantastic. The food we ordered for a lunch was on most menus standard pub food, however it came out with a difference and not only looked great but was very tasty and exceedingly good value for money. Portion and flavour, superb. We would all happily return.

We live close by and decided to go here as a last minute plan on a Wednesday night. We usually go for Sunday lunch or a Saturday night so were pleasantly surprised to see there was a mid week lite bite special for £7.95 each. We opted for the meat sharing starter which was delicious and massive, we then ordered battered chicken goujons and sausage and mash. These were not lite bites, nor were they sub standard. We were blown away by the quality for such a cheap price and will be returning again very soon (maybe to eat what we couldn’t fit in last time!) The staff, as always, were super friendly. The fire was lit and the atmosphere warm and cosy. A great local pub with fab food.

We booked a table for 5:30 on bank holiday Monday. Arrived on time and was seated. The pub was quite quiet on arrival, drinks brought to the table and food order taken quickly. However, it then took a long time to arrive. When the meals finally arrived, four arrived together, the fifth came out over 5 mins later. We had cutlery for 4, and couldn’t get the staffs attention to get another set. No one checked whether we had everything, or if the meal was ok. After we finished, the table was cleared and we were asked if we’d like desert. They kids were eager to have a pud, so we said yes. Waitress said she’d be back in a minute to take our order. She didn’t come back, we waited and waited but nothing. Then the manager(?) came over and asked us to leave, as we had ‘gone over our allotted time and the next diners were here for the table’. I asked how long we were given, and he stated 2 hours. He asked us to leave at 7:00, so we’d had 1:30 and in that time, the incredibly slow service had meant they’d only managed to serve a main course. I explained we arrived at 5:30 so had only had 1:30 and hadn’t had a pudding yet, to which he walked off. No apology, no nothing. A waitress came over and again I asked why we were being asked to leave when the booking was for 5:30. She didn’t know and went to ask the manager. She came back and said there was a mix up, and it was thought the booking was for 5. No apology in the slightest, and the manager who was quick to come over and throw us out, didn’t apologise or show his face. Low and behold we will not be going back to the Blacksmith Arms. We have just moved to the area, and will now find another local where we are welcome.

Absolute superb food to a reasonable pricing Downside of the pub is the service They were just standing behind the bar chatting with each other’s and completely forgot about us Didn’t even bother to clear our empty plates away nor to ask about puddings (we would have had some) but after 40 minutes of sitting there with no one attending beside of the pub dog we decided to pay up at the bar and leave. The other thing is the girl who showed us to the table asked for drinks straight away without us even being sat down. I asked her to give us a minute to sit down etc and she just turned around to ask my partner the same question. After that the slow service started Our drinks slowly arrived one after another by different people. Food took good 50 minutes to arrive after ordering (it wasn’t extremely busy) and yes we know that they cook everything fresh to order and this isn’t a go at the kitchen staff as they produced an amazing food. Only criticism on the food: the coleslaw had too much mayonnaise on it We will be coming back but hopefully to a better service and not being forgotten that we’re there

We cycled 25 miles to the pub and had deliberately planned our stop for lunch. Unfortunately we were met with a rather negative reception informing us that unless we’ve booked we can’t have food. We offered to eat outside and just have sandwiches if it helped. It it was a definite no. No apologies, no real regret that they couldn’t accommodate us - just a ‘no’. Sad that at such times there was no attempt to even offer something!!! Their loss - we will definitely not return!!! It might have helped if the website stated that only bookings would be catered for - a heads up would have allowed us to book a table!!!

We were very lucky to be given a table in the garden for Sunday lunch on a hot day, at very short notice. Service friendly and efficient. Food excellent including specials board-we had a selection of starters , all excellent. Sunday roast beef, lamb, and kebabs. All good quality and portions-most couldn't manage dessert but those who could were very happy! Lovely pub in pretty village just outside Caistor. Well worth a visit.

Top quality food at affordable prices, smooth order and payment system, prompt and accurate home delivery service. Nigel and his team at The Blacksmith's Arms has made a huge contribution to getting this community through lockdown. Nothing is too much trouble, and as soon as new restrictions are announced, whether tighter or lighter, the pub comes up with the goods. You really can't go wrong with the menu but our favourite has to be the 'whale and chips' on a Friday. We can't wait to get back to this dog-friendly pub, however.

Visited today as my wife had been here for Sunday lunch before which she said was very good. It’s been a while since we have visited a proper country pub and we were not disappointed. After ordering our food I thought I’d do some research on the village and the pub which included reading some trip advisor reviews. I was shocked to read that the landlord apparently had an issue with the follically challenged and those with substantial facial hair. As a man who’s fringe has migrated to the back of his head and who also has one of the finest beards in Lincolnshire I started to panic thinking I might get asked to leave. Luckily this didn’t happen. The staff including who I think was the landlord were very nice and we were made to feel welcome for the whole duration of our visit. The food was very good. I opted for the surf and turf with a ribeye steak which was well cooked and added a peppercorn sauce after the food had been delivered which wasn’t an issue. My wife had haddock and chips which she said was very nice other than she would’ve preferred her batter to be a little less cooked but that could be down to preference. Needless to say, we would visit again and thankfully I won’t have to bring my toupeè.

Lovely pub, had a drink sat outside before but decided to eat this time. Really glad we did! Grandparents and daughter had the cheese and onion toastie and the kids had a portion of chips and a freshly baked baguette and the other one had the fish goujons. We all loved our food, the friendly staff and surroundings. We will be back!

We have been ordering food from the blacksmith arms from the beginning of the pandemic. Right from the start, the Blacksmith arms have delivered excellent, restaurant quality food to our door. This has been consistent throughout the three lockdowns. Nigel and the team at the Blacksmith Arms are incredibly helpful and accommodating, both as a Pub/Restaurant, and as a delivery service. We have been so grateful to the Blacksmith Arms for delivering to us and our parents who are shielding. Find attached some of the amazing food We cannot wait to return when we are finally allowed. We fully recommend them.

Absolutely nothing to fault, lovely ambiance, attentive polite staff, a very well behaved Labrador who clearly owns the pub that everyone adores, just a delicious Sunday Roast ( we both had the Roast Lamb) generous portions, lots of tasty fresh veg, huge Yorkshire pudding, yummy gravy,,,etc etc . You get the gist, Not sure how we managed to squeeze in a dessert but we had the toffee brulé, absolutely cannot wait to return, we wil be highly recommending to family and friends, really nice location with lots of walks nearby. Thank you to everyone on shift on the 6th March you're all superstars

A beautiful October day, 21 degrees, so we walked the full route of Rothwell Country Park and settled in the beer garden for lunch, well-behaved dog warmly welcomed by George. The haddock, chips and peas were superb, the fish perfectly cooked, the batter light gold and crisp, the fish white and moist. I was delighted to see that Theakston’s Old Peculier is on draught - what a great pint. Service by Owen and staff was quick, polite and efficient.

Visited on the evening of Saturday 30th July. We, as two old friends had been looking forward to this meal for a long time but were hugely disappointed. We arrived early for our booking at 7.30 so decided to have drinks outside. We ordered at the bar and took our drinks outside. As the time approached for our booking, we took our menus and sat at the table allocated for us in front of the fireplace. And we waited.....and waited. Everyone around us seemed to be getting service despite us trying to catch the attention of one of the young waiters. Eventually we had to ask if we could order. My friend is vegan and this is one of the main reasons we had chosen this place to eat as it had good reviews for vegan diners. There were two vegan options, one of which had sold out. The man taking the order was asked if there was anything else on offer and he went off to the kitchen and came back with the offer of an Aubergine dish which suited my friend. I chose the Haddock with prawns, spinach and garlic. Our food arrived after a reasonable wait and our extra drinks we requested whilst ordering food. My friend said her Aubergine dish was very tasty. Whilst my haddock was nicely presented, I found it a little bland and couldnt taste any garlic at all. We had our plates cleared but weren't asked if we had enjoyed it. We weren't offered more drinks, nor were we asked about desserts. So we sat and waited. Other diners were leaving and the place was emptying and still no-one returned to the table. Again I had to call a member of staff over and ask to order desserts. My friend enquired about vegan options. They didn't have any. Offered fruit which is hardly a dessert. For a restaurant that offers vegan main options, it wouldn't be too difficult to offer something for dessert as well. We had a coffee and red wine to round the night off. Not one member of staff acknowledged us as we left. I left the money on the table with no tip as I feel that we had no service. Food was ok but I would not return. We felt invisible the whole evening.
