Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely food would definitely return. Lovely quaint place and had a real charm to it. It was also clean with a good atmosphere. The whole family was impressed with the food.

Lovely pub. Unfortunately rude staff. Not only did I witness a member of staff being very rude to an elderly gentleman who requested drinks for his table after his meal it only 9:05. She then went on to pour a quarter of my partners drink...away so she could lock up at around 9:30. I have never felt more uncomfortable in a pub in my life.More

Decided to take my dad for a meal for his birthday , I wish I had cooked a meal myself at home! The service was really bad, my family was waiting along time for are meals. The food was warm not hot, the roast potatoes...was rock hard not forgetting the Yorkshire puddings wasn't the best ! After the meal they asked if we wanted a pudding , I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes. Another couple who was sat next to us said they won't go again! I paid £98.00 pound what a waste of money !! I didn't complain because of it being my dads birthday! I usually give a good tip , but o decided not to. Very disappointed, we had to go to the bar to order ate drinks otherwise you would be waiting forever!!!More

Took my dad for a Saturday night treat, he is GF and they couldn’t do enough to make sure he was catered for. The venue, meal, staff, ambiance was nothing less than absolutely outstanding! I can see it may not be to everyone’s budget, but...we thoroughly enjoyed the entire home cooked from scratch food with fresh quality ingredients. I wish I had left room for a desert, the Bounty cheesecake will be enjoyed at my next visit.More

Not impressed at all. Just recently moved to the area and decided to come here to have a birthday drink with my 18yr old and the rest of the family. Upon entering we just mentioned we wanted a drink with no food then to be...told we can’t sit inside with our drinks and told we had to sit outside, where was met by numerous wasps which didn’t make the visit pleasant at all. Why we couldn’t sit inside with our drinks I do not know as the pub wasn’t that busy at all and there was clearly plenty of places for us to sit and enjoy our celebratory drinks. Not a good first impression for our new local pub.More

Service was a little slow and hard to get service when needed (although was very nice and forthcoming when we asked). Despite it not being busy it felt a bit understaffed in restaurant itself! Could not complain about the food quality or portion size though!...All what you needed came as the meal, no need for extras or sides which was good!! Was a bit on the pricey side in our opinion (£20 for a specials board burger), would have expected a little more in terms of the whole experience for the money. When we asked about desserts our server didn’t have a menu and couldn’t really explain what they were from the board. I ended up with a dessert with custard which should really have only come with ice-cream/cream as it was described incorrectly 🙈 On the whole, I would come back again- but not in a hurry!More

A nice warm welcome from the staff, although I personally thought the tables were too close together. My friend had the haddock and chips which she said was tasty (and at £23.95, so it SHOULD have been!) and my pie was also tasty. I had...to wait quite a long time for my dessert of bread and butter pudding which when it arrived was the tiniest sliver of crust-end. Despite it being a dog-friendly venue, everywhere looked spotlessly clean and the waiting staff could not be faulted. However, at almost £24.00 for fish-and-chips (not to mention almost £25.00 for beef stroganoff) it will unfortunately not be on my list of 'must returns'.More

We dropped in on spec in the middle of a long walk. Unfortunately, it was Sunday lunchtime and the pub was fully booked so couldn’t accommodate us for lunch - but, just wanted to say, the staff were as helpful as they could possibly have...been. They were really apologetic and despite our muddy boots, wet jackets and rather dishevelled appearance they let us sit at the bar and served us hot coffee and biscuits. It’s a lovely looking pub, obviously very popular with locals, the menu looked good and the staff were really helpful!More

I'd imagine that's a busy day for them, so I'd recommend booking. if it's a nice day though, I often call in for just a drink and sit in the garden at the rear.
