Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We go out once a week for a treat (not easy in the current financial climate). We decided to visit Macleods Restaurant for lunch. The staff were great, very helpful and pleasant throughout. But we felt let down with the food. There are only 5...main courses on offer, yet one was not available (the burger) as it had not been delivered! Really, you can’t manage to have 5 options delivered and available. We both had the fish and chips, and both of us found the batter heavy and greasy, so we left the batter. Finally, we discovered on paying that a 10% tip was added without notifying us or mentioning it in any way; it was just added to the bill and then included in the total. You shouldn’t just include it in the total and it is not acceptable to put customers in the position of having to ask you to remove a tip from the bill. Money is tight enough without this type of practice, so sadly we won’t be visiting again.More

Very disappointed, came for food after an amazing experience at the spa. Baked camembert wasn’t cooked the whole way through with raw garlic in, it was solid in the middle so un-dippable. Prawns came out room temperature which was a little dubious. They did replace...both, but still plum average. Bar staff were stand offish, cold and unhelpful, except for the lady who was lovely and welcoming. Such a shame, hopefully they can up the standard to match the spa, and it seems from reviews the restaurant used to be good but has lost its way. Would avoid for now.More

We were staying at The Coniston Hotel and we were debating whether to go out in Skipton for food but I'm so glad we decided to stay at the hotel. David the sommelier, made our evening extra special. He had such passion for food and...wine, he made the perfect wine pairings for our food selection (which were different from the suggestions on the menu) and they were absolutely fantastic and really enhanced the flavour of our dishes. He made the whole experience even more enjoyable, we will definitely be coming back again!More

We were staying at the hotel for new year and our evening meals were served in Mcleods, which we have visited previously. This is a lovely restaurant with proper old fashioned etiquette and values, which I love. Ladies are treated like ladies - seated first,...served first, etc - which is most welcome in this fast-moving world. The food is perfectly cooked and elegantly presented and the restaurant staff are always happy to advise on wine choices if required. There is absolutely nothing I could fault in this restaurant and I can't wait to return. Thank youMore

A restaurant that excels at fine dining. No pretentious food, just superb cuisine presented with the wow factor.

Ate here whilst staying at the hotel. Menu looked lovely. Had a nice gin in the adjacent bar before dinner Starters (1 grouse, 1 scallops) were excellent. Mains however (lamb and stone bass) a bit lacking in flavour. Deserts well presented, but not the best...(maybe we chose poorly?) Service ok, but not as attentive as I’d expect in a 2 rosette restaurant. Excellent wine list.More

Excellent meal whilst staying at the hotel. I had Scallops followed by Fillet steak which was faultless. OH had Mackerel followed by Lamb which was equally perfect. The staff were all friendly and couldn't do enough to help.

We attended a wedding in McLeods Restaurant - it was beautifully decorated but I believe that much of thatwas done by the wedding party. Before I describe the meal I would like to say why I only gave 4 stars! The canapes pre mealwere served...on the terrace and the y oung lady serving them did not make sure that she went to every table/group. She mised me out and the table at which I was sitting. Others at the table managed to catch her on her return to the kitchen. When she returned wih another tray I called to her - she asked -in an unpleasant manner- if I was vegetarian and when I said no she marched off and proceeded to serve people to whom she had already served the meat canapes earlier. She then disappeared and returned with two small plates with what looked like one serving each on them. She again told me they were vegetarian and I told her how rude she had been and how she had ignored me, She sent someone else out with the next tray! They were delicious but her behaviour was the only cloud on what was a wonderful few days. The wedding "breakfast" which was very welcome as I was so hungry was delicious. Shredded duck and chorizo salad followed by chicken in a magical mushroom sauce (I asked for and was given extra sauce) withotoatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables. I am not a great fan of chocolate puddings but the chocolate ganache was delicious. Definitely a meal to remember.More

Ate in the restaurant two consecutive evenings for a Business Presentation. There were nearly One Hundred Delegates, and they were very busy servings. Had Roast Beef first night and Roast Lamb on the second night, with all the trimmings, and both were excellent. The service...was fast and efficient with a well organised and supervised Team of servers. Would love to return to try out a Sunday Lunch some time into the future.More
