Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent pub and overnight stay. Couldn't fault a thing. Lovely spacious room with comfy bed and all the amenities. Food great, host and staff very friendly and great service. They keep a great pint of Theakston bitter too just a shame no old peculiar on...draft, although on second thoughts maybe not 🥴would definitely recommend and stay again next time we're up there. Thank you very much.More

Cannot fault one thing about this place, well maybe Pete, the landlords jokes! Everything was spot on from the great banter with the locals to the bedroom and food! And it’s dog friendly what more can you ask for

We chose the Witching Post Inn for a break with Alfie our Greyhound. We could not fault anything there. Food was great, staff were second to none, the room was fantastic and the charm and wit of Pete the Landlord was free!!! We would definitely...recommend The Witching Inn for a nice little break.More

Warm welcoming country pub with lovely food. I actuallt want to give Pete and crew 1 star but only to receive an amusing comment back but that would be a disssevice to him and his team! I really fancied a Sunday roast and Pete accomodated...perfectly making fresh yorkshires. Sunday roast was delicious consisting of melt in the mouth meat, a cracking yorkshire (no aunt Bessies here), nicely cooked veg and as much gravy as needed. Hubby had a parmi which was also delicious and daughter (5) was sorted out first with her pizza. Two dogs welcomed. Staff lovely and chatty. Thanks for a lovely meal.More

We had the homemade steak and ale pie which was delicious. I had the chips (which were amazing) and my husband had mash. Great price and excellent, friendly service. Lovely and warm by the wood burning stove.

Well!! What can I say!! I am absolutely in love with this little gem! My friend and I where out for the day and stumbled on this place and oh my god! It was beautiful. The open fire was a bonus and just topped of...an amazing Sunday dinner, roast beef Yorkshire puds and all the trimmings, all fresh and definitely homemade none of this frozen rubbish. The drinks menu was lovely and we found a few that went down a treat in this delightful pub. We had a good natter with the staff that served us and nothing was to much trouble. Keep up the amazing work we will be back! #greatfindMore

Absolutely awful sunday roast I have no idea how this is a 5 star rated pub! burnt Yorkshire puddings overcooked dry beef, half of it was cold, undercooked watery vegetables, don’t know what had happened to the roast potatoes we will definitely not be back!...Only good thing about this pub is its lovely staff and serviceMore

We were staying in Grosmont and just wanted a traditional pub dinner in a local hostelry with good reviews (sadly the reviews for the pub in Grosmont put us off). The Witching Post was the obvious choice and we were not disappointed. Apart from the...menu, which appears on the web site there were also some specials. Were offered a choice of tables in the bar or restaurant and opted for the restaurant. Service was friendly and food delivered in a timely manner. Final bill for food and drink was very reasonable.More

One very blustery, cold October Saturday lunchtime, we decided to escape the elements and found ourselves luxuriating in front of a deliciously warm log burner in this lovely traditional olde worlde inn. It was such a fun and relaxing atmosphere, with banter from the guests...and the lovely lady working front of house. The food was all properly home made and tasty, and arrived in very generous portions. I had the veg curry, with “ half and half”, while husband had a huge portion of ham, eggs and chips. The couple near us had the local fish and chips - which looked amazing! We enjoyed listening to the banter from a group who were on “The Gallon Walk”. All in all it was a very enjoyable, fun and wonderfully relaxing experience. We definitely fell under the spell of The Witching Post !More

I stayed for just one night with my wife Jo but what a night. Pete the owner had us all cracking up with laughter in the bar. So many jokes and stories. Great entertainment Pete. The pub has been renovated to a very high standard...but still retains the look of bygone days. We stayed in room 1 apparently haunted but we had a quiet night. The ghosts were on a night out in Whitby I guess. The room itself was excellent. Very comfortable bed and top notch en suite. Onto the food. I had Chicken Parmo. Outstandingly good and the cheesecake was delicious. Elaine who served us was great fun and the barman was great as well.Full English breakfast in the morning was so good I scoffed the lot before I could take a photo. Oops. All in all a crackingly good way to end our holiday and we would love to return.More

Stayed here for a couple of nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was very cosy and comfortable. The food served in the bar area was very tasty, plentiful and great value. The owner Pete went above and beyond to cater for our needs...and that of others. He certainly had a few tales to tell us all. We would certainly recommend here.More
