Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dropped in yesterday for lunch with our friends and 4 Bedlington Terriers. Despite the cafe being closed on a Monday we were given a fabulous welcome and had delicious food, served in the cafe courtyard with great but not overwhelming music and a very chill vibe. The staff couldn’t have been more lovely even providing freshly cooked sausages for our dogs, The epic home made picallily is worth a mention in its own right

Very friendly, menus are varied and beautifully balanced…it will take a while but we will work our way through everything on both the Brunch and Lunch menus! The BLT’s in the shop were absolutely gorgeous and the chocolate cake…OMG. It took me back to my Granny’s house on a Sunday afternoon: she made the best chocolate cake and this was on par. Thanks and see you very soon

This is not Starbucks. The kitchen is manned by humans serving fresh food. The more structured (menu driven) sit down cafe is not always open but you’ll always get some fabulous choices at the deli counter to eat at the tables in the shop or outside. When we last visited we only wanted a snack anyway. Mark, the owner is not conformist. He was happy to simply plate up one of his enormous sausage rolls for me and a pork pie for hubbie with a side of Branston, at our request! There were lots of sandwich options and our friend (not eating white carbs!) was offered a deconstructed avocado and bacon ciabatta served effectively as a Caesar salad. So much on sale was baked by them or sourced locally. I was able to pick up a bunch of local asparagus too. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. Just ask.

Thank for an amazing lunch for the 6 of us on 8 June. Your suggestion of a pan of asparagus, lightly buttered with Parmesan to share between us, and then complimented with schnitzel and spaghetti for my main, washed down with a bottle of your provenance rose. Great food. Great team. And what a chef - thank Mitch 😘

We had heard about this small village stores and cafe and we felt we needed to pop in to see for ourselves and it was a store with a few tables and a lovely man happily singing in his kitchen and a lady serving ! We had a cup of coffee and homemade Victoria sandwich cake so delicious ! I do think as we were new customers to this quaint old store the lady could of been a bit more friendly !

Very good stop for a bite to eat. Mainly sandwiches seemed to be offered but there was a reasonable range and when they came they were massive. Good combination and ratio of Dijon mustard on my pistrami sandwhich. Slightly slow service but i think maybe they were understaffed for a Saturday. Good place to stop with the ability to get provisions for home and some nice local produce

We visited today and had a great couple of hours sitting outside in the sunshine . Very relaxing , listening to the music and looking at the potted flowers that decorate the courtyard . All food was delicious and delivered with a smile ! Dishes were beautifully presented and good value . I had the grilled halloumi on ciabatta . My friend enjoyed the special of the day , which was cured meat , bread and olives . Our partners enjoyed the eggs Benedict and a full English . A really great place to visit if you are in this area . We will return soon we hope .

There are five of us, one in a wheelchair, two ceoliacs, a vegetarian and two “regular“ people. We rang up this morning to ask if the cafe was open - they replied that they had some tables in the shop and could serve us there. We pointed out the various menu requirements and wheelchair access - to which the gentleman responded, I am sure we can sort something for you all. When we got there we found them extremely friendly and helpful. We all had a lovely meal and were very well looked after So thank you very much to you all.

The host is one of the most arrogant self righteous individuals I have had the displeasure of meeting. He seems to think that he can talk to members of the public in a degrading manner. This is the first time that I have written a review, good or bad because I felt so strongly about this appalling service. Spoke to my partner and I in a disgusting manner for no need whatsoever when we simply asked for help. Seems to think he is above others when in reality he runs a small cafe and shop in Norfolk. Avoid at all costs, and owner, please learn some manners and show people some decently and respect, especially when they are helping to pay your wages.

Oh my, you have worked yourself into a real tizzy. Having vented your 'anger' on Google Business, you now subscribe to TripAdvisor to further defame me. Where next? I'm sorry if I wasn't your 'cup of tea' and I do hope that eventually, you find the help you need. Offending you, your husband or indeed any other being, is never, nor will be my intention.

The food and service is how all places should be. We have been a few times now on our trips from London. It’s as far from the corporate offerings that seem to letter the country as you can get. The owner is such a nice chap and loves his business. Just look at all the great reviews. We are driving up on Friday to the area and will be calling in for breakfast before we go on to our destination.

We love this place, the food is great in the café, when the café isn't open we normally pick something up from the store/deli. The food in both is ace. We use Bircham Stores pretty much every week when out on our bikes or if we want to meet friends. We love it and the staff. Thanks guys.

We, by mistake, visited on a day the cafe was closed but the wonderfully accommodating owner, Mark, still managed to instantly create a delicious lunch from a selection of food from his shop. We returned on a day when the cafe was actually open and we were delighted by the absolutely delicious food at excellent prices. We all really enjoyed our choices and I can’t praise my lamb kofta with Greek salad and feta cheese highly enough. The cafe has a sheltered outdoor space as well as a comfortable indoor dining room. I highly recommend this place as both a wonderful deli and a great little cafe.

The best Full English breakfast around! Fresh well cooked food and the black pudding was fantastic. My only criticism (well more personal preference than a criticism) would be that there were too many tomatoes - there was a small vine of about 5 cherry tomatoes as well as a couple of halves of full size tomatoes. Having said that the extra tomatoes didn’t detract from the delicious sausages, bacon, mushroom, eggs and the aforementioned delicious black pudding. Will definitely be visiting again to try out more of the menu.

Food was lovely , great choice and fresh. Coffee was okay, very hot but not much flavour, even for a latte. Found a quiet place to sit and eat , very friendly staff and owner, made me feel welcome 😊

Thank you Helen for your 5* review. It is greatly appreciated and means so much to the staff. The impact such positive comments make to the business overall is immeasureable. I am always reluctant to defend negative feedback, but I hope you won't object to me offering an explaination as to the poor quality of your latte. We use digital grinders for our coffee beans, so each cup should be made with the same quantity of coffee, thereby achieving a consistent, high quality flavour. Last week our grinder was playing up and the quantity of ground coffee was variable. We had also run out of our regular supply of beans, which we have used for the past 15 years. I had purchased an alternative bean and this is possibly what you tasted. I'm so sorry that you were disappointed. I wish you would have mentioned your dissatisfaction at the time. We are more than happy to replace any purchase that fails to meet customer expectation. Please pop in next time you are passing through Bircham and I will treat you to a complimentary latte and pastry as way of saying 'sorry'. Thank you once again for your positive feedback.
